best thing would have been not getting involved in the war to start with

Gotta distract from those Epstein files. Looks like it worked on the lame stream media.

The illegally redacted and illegally unreleased Epstein Files? The ones showing Trump and many elected officials r*** children?
163

the ones that Jeffery Epstien didn't suic8de himself over? those Epstien Files?
47
Nearby-Key8834 1 day ago +33
But now they need a distraction from the terrible gas prices that were caused by a war intended to distract from the fact that Trump is a child rapist.
33
Beard_o_Bees 22 hr ago +18
Hmmm... they've already tried UFO/UAP's, so that's out. There's not much Fuckface could say that would be so outrageous that it would dominate news cycles anymore, since that's just 'how we are' now, apparently - so that's out. The Supreme Court blatantly putting their thumb on the scale of election law to help the GOP, who know there's a slaughter coming down the pike, should be enough... I mean you *think* it would be enough.... but no.

How about new war with cuba?

Or maybe not cut all the things that we're going to get us off fossil fuels and onto alternative cleaner energies that would not have been as easily jeopardized.

Wind turbines are super scary. And they kill the whales.

ToughHopeful4760 1 day ago +49
The Reuters article mostly focuses on what tools the administration actually has left to influence gas prices while the conflict continues. It doesn’t go very deep into the policy decisions that led up to it.
49
Historical-View4058 1 day ago +94
The 'policy' as you call it, consisted of Bebe convincing Trump that disaster was imminent despite intelligence saying otherwise, and military heavily advising against getting involved. That's it.
94
jra625 1 day ago +46
It was really Hesgeth and Witkoff that convinced Trump on Bibi's direction if you want to get technical about it.  Militarily, it doesn't make sense. At all. For billionaires wanting to manipulate the oil markets so they can get rich, it makes more sense.
46
Historical-View4058 1 day ago +22
As someone who worked closely with Africa/Middle East NatInt professionals, I already knew f****** with Iran militarily was a huge mistake back in February.
22
waaaayupyourbutthole 1 day ago +28
As someone who knows f*** all about Africa, the middle east, or military anything, i knew it was a mistake 20 f****** years ago.
28
Gonzomi313 1 day ago +18
Yep apparently we learned nothing from Iraq or Afghanistan and considering Iran if a far greater adversary…
18
Historical-View4058 1 day ago +16
Still amazes me at the amount of accounts back in Feb that thought we were just going to fly right in and bomb Iran back to the stone age within hours - like this was f****** Top Gun Maverick, a movie. Here we are, more than 2 months later with still no official congressional approval, billions of dollars of equipment destroyed or depleted, no way out, and no end in sight. F****** amazing.
16
InsuranceToTheRescue 1 day ago +8
In case you missed it the whole redhat movement basically thinks they're in a movie. The military doesn't need command & control, they want CoD cosplayers. Police don't need to worry about due process or rights, they want Dirty Harry. That's how the redhats see the world. They forgot that these were stories, made to be embellished, and that the world doesn't actually work like that.
8
Historical-View4058 23 hr ago +3
I like what you're saying, but you'd think they got the correct Iran message from 300.
3
Arendious 19 hr ago +3
I mean, we *had* the capability of bombing Iran into the Bronze Age at the outset of the war. Particularly after the 12 Day War between Israel and Iran. But doing so would have meant significantly longer build up, and getting allies other than Israel and the Gulf Arabs on board with a real war, not just Operation Performative D*** Wagging #2. And THAT would have required the soft power and diplomacy resources this Administration fucked away back in January '25.
3
Historical-View4058 19 hr ago +4
Or, we could have just left the original agreement in place and saved the American tax payers a metric f*** tonne of money.
4
toggiz_the_elder 1 day ago +4
If you ask MAGA the lesson of Iraq and Afghanistan is that we didn’t do enough war crimes.

Hegseth is a drunken lunatic who wants a holy war. A man who quoted f****** Pulp Fiction, thinking it was a real Bible verse. He should be tossed onto the streets of Iran and left for the locals to deal with. Whatever they do to him, he deserves worse.

"we have more Epstein files that you don't know about and it would be a real shame if they were released"
7
Civil_Future_2095 1 day ago +10
I mean, the real reason is to distract from the Epstein Files, which are illegally redacted and illegally not being released because Trump rapes children.
10
Historical-View4058 1 day ago +6
If you really want to go down the Trump conspiracy rabbit hole, consider that a continued engagement with Iran, knowing how they employ asymmetrical proxy warfare, could feasibly extend a considerable amount of terrorist hostilities here in the US. That would give him cause to postpone elections indefinitely. Let that possibility sink in.
6
Civil_Future_2095 20 hr ago +2
Oh, I'm there. Important to remember conspiracies with proof aren't theories, just conspiracies.
2
LowerRhubarb 23 hr ago +3
Less of a convincing, more of dangling the Epstein files over his head and saying "GOTCHA B****."
3
willstr1 23 hr ago +2
The easiest tool would be handing the moron responsible over to Iran and hoping they accept the peace offering and let bygones be bygones
2
0fficerGeorgeGreen 1 day ago +10

There are a bunch of dipshits in IL trying to make it look like gas is so high because of state taxes on it and nothing more. I guarantee it's working for the Fox base, but still, how braindead do you have to be to not put 2 and 2 together here?
1

Next best thing would be accepting the loss and ending the war in Iran.

Here's their answer btw, just dilute the gas - https://www.newsweek.com/republicans-vote-to-dilute-gas-as-prices-rise-above-4-50-11949494 > House Republicans passed a bill on Wednesday that would allow nationwide year-round sales of E15, a blend of gasoline mixed with 15 percent ethanol, also known as Unleaded 88—a product that refiners and retailers normally cannot sell in around half the country during the summer months due to air pollution concerns. > Ethanol, a clear, colorless, volatile, and flammable alcohol produced by fermenting sugars from agricultural crops such as corn or sugarcane, generally reduces greenhouse gases, but E15 can produce more smog-forming emissions when it evaporates in heat. > However, while the E15 rollout can lower prices, ethanol does contains less energy than gasoline, so eventually with E15, a driver will end up burning more fuel for the same amount of distance, albeit fuel which is slightly cheaper than standard gasoline. Basically this 'solution' to the price rise from the Iran war produces smog, burns faster than regular gasoline so you will have to fill up more often and pollutes at a higher rate than gasoline over a longer period of use.

We're a couple of months away from conservatives lobbying to put lead back in gasoline
169
cporter1188 1 day ago +117
Wouldn't that be a full circle. Lead in gas gives us conservatives, conservatives give us lead in gas.
117
Vaulters 1 day ago +24
I wish there was a solid reason like this that explains them. Then it could be fixed. Sadly, I think it's just that about 30% of humans suck.
24
ShaftamusPrime 20 hr ago +20
Lead poisoning causes brain damage, brain damage has this weird thing of causing people to become very conservative despite thier views prior to brain damage, most of the people in government due to thier age have a very high close to 100% change they had some level of lead poisoning, leaded gass is linked to extreme levels in a lot of people from that era, not even inducing lead paint and all of the other thing they were dousing in lead then, his theory may not be far off.
20
SnooPets1826 14 hr ago +7
Looking at violent crime statistics over time, and watching that number plummet with the outlawing of lead in gas and paint is so telling. It's why it's so frustrating to see republicans beat there violent crime drum when it's literally 4X lower than the 90's.
7
Capable_Kiwi2514 17 hr ago +3
There's a massive amount of data linking political beliefs to social determinants---simply writing off a lot of the population is not compatible with an empirical stance on politics and belief systems.
3
Leftoverofferings 23 hr ago +37
But you need a good corn crop yield for this and we ain't got a lot of fertilizer, so....
37
obi_wan_the_phony 20 hr ago +8
This is the piece most don’t understand. You’re just increasing demand into the ag sector which is already going to be stretched thin
8
SingularityCentral 23 hr ago +44
This won't actually save anyone any money and is worse for the environment. It just creates a false impression that gas is cheaper.
44
Cloud_Matrix 23 hr ago +27
The false impression is the entire point 👍
27
d_wib 23 hr ago +9
I also don’t trust companies to actually lower gas prices compared to what they would be normally just because they’re using E15
9
powerlesshero111 23 hr ago +9
It's the daylight savings time of gasoline.
9
manystripes 23 hr ago +9
At one point the amount of ethanol you get from the fossil fuel used for farming was close to break even. Does anyone know what the more recent numbers are? Is this actually a net gain in energy or is it just kicking the can down the road by using last year's corn to supplement this year's gasoline?
9
Low_Pickle_112 22 hr ago +7
My Trump loving relatives would often complain about ethanol in the gasoline (which to be fair, there's good reason for that) but I wonder if they'll change their tune now.
7
ShaftamusPrime 20 hr ago +3
100% will ethanol is about to be the second coming of Jesus christ to them.
3
ProsaicPugilist 23 hr ago +13
Isn’t it also bad for engines?? This is such a stupid “solution”
13
powerlesshero111 23 hr ago +23
Yes, and it burns faster, so, regardless if it's cheaper, you need to fill up more frequently. In college, there was a gas station near me that was always like 40 cents cheaper, but a full tank would only get you 200 miles instead of 300 because they watered down their gas with ethanol, and just didn't post it.
23
Chairmanmeow42 15 hr ago +2
Yeah my motorcycle is carbuerated and ethanol gums up the jets, sticks open the float needle. If it sits for a little bit then the ethanol containing gas accumulates water
2
AgileFriendship6275 23 hr ago +3
And watch the prices only go down 2cts…
3
UnpricedToaster 22 hr ago +3
Short term problem "solved", long term consequences. That's on brand for the GOP.
3
MrMichaelJames 21 hr ago +3
Which will result in using more gas therefore spending more money.
3
ragun2 17 hr ago +1
Yeah but at the pump Republicans will see it's like $5 less than they paid before, so must be good!
1
Jealous_Slice9371 19 hr ago +3
It's optional, you don't have to buy it, it's not replacing 87.
3
Filias9 10 hr ago +2
These first gen biofuels are horrible. You are burning edible crops. Which needs a lot fertilizer, degrade soil and making food more expensive. They are not good for engines too. This exists only due to lobbyists and corruption. Build solar panels, wind farm, etc. Build electric cars and infrastructure for them. That have sense today.
2
Aloysiusakamud 18 hr ago +4
The reason we don't use a higher mix year round and in all states: Phase Separation: If the fuel is exposed to significant humidity, the mixture cannot hold more water. The ethanol-water mix drops out of the gasoline to the bottom of the tank. Corrosion & Performance Issues: This separated water-ethanol layer is highly corrosive, damaging fuel tanks, pumps, and rubber components. It also creates "stale" gas, which can cause stalling and prevent engines from starting.
4
Spamgrenade 23 hr ago +2
Gosh I hope it's not bad for truck engines.
2
BendicantMias 21 hr ago +1
Note that the other fuel options are still there, if you're willing to pay the higher price. E15 wasn't permitted before in most of the country, now it is. This is just joining the lineup at the pump.
1
Jealous_Slice9371 19 hr ago +2
It was permitted in the winter, this changes it to be permitted through the summer as well.
2
Blarg0117 21 hr ago +1
Just use the Defense production act for a partial export ban on refined petroleum. We make enough gas.
1
BendicantMias 18 hr ago +3
That would hurt profits. Also most US refineries aren't suited for the kind of oil it has, so most of is exported so that more suitable oil grades can be imported.

I don't mean to sound like an Iran apologist, but the best bet for gas prices to go back to pre-war levels would be ending the war in Iran today, acquiescence to their Hormuz demands, and a heartfelt apology for this stupid war. This course of action would reopen Hormuz tomorrow but even then we'll have to wait months or years for production to ramp back up. That will never happen though and this will go on until someone breaks and that means that everyone on the planet has to suffer while we play chicken with Iran.

All of this to drain you of any future plus a distraction from Epstein.

I mean not starting useless wars with no plan would have been a great place to start. However longer term thinking might have helped too. If only we had the ability to make energy without oil. Like from wind or solar or something crazy like that. And if we had a program to make cars that ran off that alternative energy. And then if we had an incentive program to help convince people to buy these cars that did not need gas, like a tax rebate or something. What am I thinking? That is clearly crazy talk.

I would say impeach AND remove Trump (impeachment does no good by itself) but the Republican party would have to extricate their heads from Trump's rectum and we know that won't happen. Therefore I suggest voters extricate Republicans from their positions of power in November. Redistricting to try to steal the election won't work if anti Republican turnout is massive everywhere.

I remember a short few years ago, Joe Biden got gas prices down without resorting to watering down gas. Too bad Trump refuses to do anything that has Joe Biden's name attached to it, like not getting into a major war in the middle east and playing OPEC against each other. Trump's benefactors in Saudi Arabia amd UAE are making bank with high prices and they dont want to see them lowered.

Does anyone honestly believe diluting fuel will lower prices to pre-war numbers? Maybe a slight decrease, but these companies will keep prices up with the decrease in fuel quality, wringing every single cent out of consumers as they have to fill up more often with reduced fuel quality.
