If you declare war it’s hard to say “sorry I lost”. So then you have to escalate. It’s one of the reasons war is bad, actually.

Its a mosaic defense. Iran switched to the strategy about a decade ago. Iran basically has about 30 different military branches that can all act independently. There’s no cutting the head of the snake. You’re basically forced to fight 30 wars.

He got a dopamine spike from capturing Maduro, because many people in his base applauded him. Afterwards he was chasing to repeat this feeling in Iran, hungry for his fix.
I think he didn't realize that even though Maduro is kidnapped, not even Venezuela is a deal shut and done, despite of claiming victory.
Now he thinks claiming victory over and over again might do the trick, because that was enough in Venezuela to get approval from his peers.

Except 1) the press was *much* freer at the time, and 2) what would count as winning and losing was pretty clear. Cutting and running while the North unified the country under communism meant losing.
Right now winning could honestly be whatever the f*** Trump says it is as long as the Strait of Hormuz opens up and gas prices go down. Prices don’t even need to go down to what they were, they just need to go down enough for Trump to spin it.
That’s totally doable. If Iran gets to set up tolls and charge ships a fee to exit, surely they’d be fine letting Trump declare victory in exchange. And Rubio has already been laying the groundwork for that.
17
invariantspeedMar 28, 2026

This is why clear goals matter.
I keep hearing from certain news sources that US military is performing excellently and utterly dominating in every engagement. This is true, but it means nothing without the context of objectives (that are being closed in on or that are slipping away).
Everyone can understand not telegraphing a blow-by-blow battle plan, but they’re acting like the government can’t say what its overarching objectives are without threading national security. It is all very concerning, militarily and democratically.

Its extremely difficult to invade and occupy land if you dont know the terrains as well as the locals.
If they dont want you there, they can just use guerilla tactics constantly - attack you, withdraw, attack again. You can't gain a lasting foothold on the land if the local population resists and repels ever tiny advance the invaders make.

I'm afraid that we may have already crossed the point of no return. Withdrawing now would unequivocally be seen as surrender. And no matter how much lying Trump and Fox News do, even their minions will see it that way.
And on the other side of this, Iran would be crazy to sue for peace now. What's there to stop Israel and their puppet from attacking again? Trump broke all resemblance of credibility that the US had on this issue.
Besides, Israel has one and only one objective: to install a puppet regime in Iran. They will not stop until that's a reality. And they'll drag their puppet along as usual.

I get a strange feeling seeing all the young people say “oh, I’ll just refuse, I’ll throw the draft notice in the trash” as if they wouldn’t be thrown in prison and treated like a traitor for the entire war and beyond. i don’t think they understand exactly what a draft is - it’s not like they open up a bunch of job postings that you apply to. It’s not like jury service. They come and throw your ass in basic training, and if you are insubordinate or strategically incompetent, you get imprisoned or worse.
That’s the main point about having a draft, when you get to that point it’s not voluntary anymore. You can try to refuse it, the same way you would refuse to pay your taxes or refuse an officer arresting you. If it were any different then everybody would refuse.
And for all the young people under 30 who voted for Trump: hope it was worth it. This was a war of his choice, it didn’t have to happen. Just remember you’re going first before any of us old people are called.

To give my two cents, as you Americans say.
What's happened is that the US had a period without competition, transferring into a period where the only possible competition was Russia and Europe (where Europe was more of a client state than competition).
With the rise of China suddenly the US is not without competition and you don't like it. However, the two "competitors" are Europe (who has an almost similar GPD without a tech sector or army) and China.
The problems have come from the EU being able to dictate terms to the US economically through regulations, which is why there is such focus on destroying the EU and pivoting to Russia as a junior partner instead (like Europe used to be).
And China is no longer something US can control.
With both happening at the same time the US is very close to being cut out by both if they work together.
Basically, we're suffering from US having a tantrum that they no longer dictate the rules of the game.

Now, when my MAGA relatives brought up Trump as a negotiator, I told them that's spoonfed bullshit that they've been eating.
I asked them if they heard about the joke Trump made to the Japanese Prime Minister. Maybe they had, maybe they hadn't. I clarified that the Japanese Prime Minister was visiting Trump because Japan needed ~~to make a decision about whether or not they were going to use Chinese yuan to buy oil shipping through the Strait of Hormuz or if they would stick with the US dollar.~~ (MISINTERPRETATION OF MEETING re: WAR IN IRAN AND ENERGY POLICY). I explained how much of America's power and economy is tied to the world using petrodollars---buying oil with US currency.
I explained that a reporter asked Trump why he didn't inform US allies such as Japan about the surprise attack on Iran. Trump turned around to the Japanese Prime Minister and made a joke about how the Japanese didn't warn the US about Pearl Harbor.
~~I told them the next day, Japan announced they were going to use Chinese Yuan to buy oil.~~ (UNSUBSTANTIATED RUMOR).
I then told my relatives they've been conned. They've been played for rubes. Everything costs more. Jobs are drying up. We're at war. Nobody's being arrested for raping and sex-trafficking children documented in the Epstein files. And how even now, they're willing and eager to bend over and get fucked harder by Trump, the Republicans, and the rich fuckwads who own everything.

Republican voters are the most stupid fucks on this planet. Imagine voting for the two assholes that took us into Middle East forever wars because of culture war propaganda. I can understand hating democrats cause they are corporate shills but you gotta be actually mentally ill to support the Republican Party.

Remember when a country would elect their village idiot and it would only impact them?
So in order, bankrupted a c*****, multiple other businesses, over a million dead last time during covid, got elected again, concentration camps and the US government is insolvent I believe, now aiming to bankrupt the rest of the world.
He carries on like a make a wish kid but this has to be the first time ever that people are routing for the terminal disease.

Dude, it's already there: The Actual Selling Price is around $175 a bbl. There's currently a large discrepancy between the Paper Price at $115 a bbl. Some countries have already declared a Public Emergency.
So $300 a bbl will really take the sting out of buying a Chinese Electric Vehicle.

Crazy to think that some of those guys were unknowingly cheering for the near future cause of their own early death.
