Putting it in a country currently facing fuel shortage seems like a very smart thing to do.

Chinas' biggest fumble in the past 10 years was pushing the Phillipines back into US arms with their braindead attacks in the SCE and The Phillipines EEZ.

Would you terribly mind if we painted a huge target on your back?

Wouldn’t be the first time

What target? Unless you are talking about China - Neither Iran nor any of their proxies have the ability to reach even close to the Phillipines.

Take a wild guess buddy.

Subic Bay is an obvious first choice.

Cypher007 Apr 14, 2026 +4
Article said Subic bay is already being used as a fuel depot. This is talking about a proposed second site in the south near Davao.

Not happening. That's Duterte's backyard.

probably preparing to defend Taiwan, in the worst case.

I don’t know, I have very little faith that the current administration would defend Taiwan

Distinct_Help_222 Apr 14, 2026 +7
If the US fails to come to the aid of Taiwan, it’ll be over for their influence in Asia and probably all of their allies.

Agreed, but “destroying international influence and goodwill” seems to be the regular course for the current GOP

What is the point? Iran has shown by just bombing the bases puts a huge dent on operations. A couple missiles will make that storage facility an environmental hazard.

yep the lesson learnt is don't ever prepare for anything..ever.

Broad_Mushroom_8033 Apr 14, 2026 +6
You're right. I was going to study for my math test but it's possible i may get hit by a tomahawk missile tonight so there really is no point in studying.

How long would 41 million of fuel last in a conflict with China ?
3
Strong_Weakness2867 Apr 14, 2026 +16
How ever long it takes for a drone to fly over from Shenzhen.
16
Used-Examination1439 Apr 14, 2026 +2
You don’t think those barrels would be protected / have air defenses and its own drones esp by 2028
2
Pitiful-MobileGamer Apr 14, 2026 +9
The Defenders have to stop every single one, the attackers just have to get one through.
9
Strong_Weakness2867 Apr 14, 2026 +7
Russia is still losing oil facilities to drones 4 years into a war. It's impossible to stop all incoming attacks with air defense. If its in range its going to eventually be hit.

FantasticBlock420 Apr 14, 2026 +2
The US lost an E-3 plane, one of its most crucial planes for air superiority simply because they left it parked out in the open. Don't put sheer stupidity out of the possibility for this regime.
2
foul_ol_ron Apr 14, 2026 +3
You would've thought everywhere would have decent drone defences by now. However...
3
Used-Examination1439 Apr 14, 2026 +3
I agree but US is definitely behind the scenes Ramping up its planned drone force for sure.
3
AmorphousMess Apr 14, 2026 +1
Yep, expend a couple hundred million dollars worth of munitions to protect a couple million dollars of fuel from a couple thousand dollars worth of drones.
1
Used-Examination1439 Apr 14, 2026
So what would be your plan!

Outrageous-Ride8911 Apr 14, 2026 +3
Put it somewhere else

Doesn't have to be compared to what China has done to the Philippines in broad daylight.

Ok-Marzipan495 Apr 14, 2026
Yes the big bad wolf water hosing 2 ship vs the angel killing 100 school children every two weeks.

themathmajician Apr 14, 2026 +5
It's more like a dozen at this point no? Not to mention joining the game of bumper cars in Filipino waters, irregular blockades, dumping poison. I don't think you can call these subtle at all. No one needs to die for an action to be obvious or direct, like stockpiling fuel.

MyDogThinksISmell Apr 14, 2026 +1
What would stop someone from bombing the shit out of this fuel dump?
1
GenXPowaah Apr 15, 2026 +1
Is it just me or shit like this should be kept a secret...

DryDish6188 Apr 15, 2026 +1
Legit question. Bakit hindi nila ilagay sa West Philippine Sea instead of Mindanao? Since ang dami na din itinayo don ng China ket na ang layo naman sa Bansa nila. Also, will this affect fuel prices or US lang talaga maggi-gain dito? So bakit sa bansa natin?

isekai_cheese Apr 17, 2026 +1
theres currently over 2000 inhabited islands of Philippines. would be a good place to hide it among those. however with satellite imagery its just a mild inconvenience to locate.
