Here we go again. Should we expect a late night Sunday Truth Social to try to manipulate the markets?

Do we need a truth social post when everyone already knows the outcome of the talks?
5
Xollector Apr 12, 2026 +18
Yes we do, especially when it will be like : “The talks with Iran are going very well even though we didn’t reach agreement this time. We will be continuing it in 2 weeks as there were many many points to discuss. They are going to be opening up the Strait of Hormuz ( OR ELSE!) and they WILL NOT develop nuclear weapons which makes a much safer world! China we are watching you you better not be sending them weapons or TARIFFS! I have great relationship with president Xi, he is a good friend since the Qin dynasty. Looking forward to meeting him in May, after we finish this off with a big WIN for AMERICA! And oil will drop like eggs soon! Praise be to Allah! Thank you for your attention to this matter. PRESIDENT DONALD J TRUMP”

Lanky_Milk8510 Apr 12, 2026 +8
Followed the next day by: “THESE CRAZY IDIOTS CANT UNDERSTAND ENGLISH AND WANT TO NEGOTIATE WITH ROCKS SO WE WILL CONTINUE TO BOMB THEM UNTIL THEY CAN FIND SOMEONE WHO CAN COMMUNICATE. PRAISE BE ALLAH DONALD J TRUMP”

"We said they didn't even wear a suit, the iranians just walked out. Such uncooperative assholes "
1
Little-Chemical5006 Apr 12, 2026 +75
Part text --- ISLAMABAD, April 12 (Reuters) - U.S. Vice President JD Vance said on Sunday that his negotiating team was leaving Pakistan after not reaching a deal with Iran after 21 hours of negotiations. Vance cited shortcomings in the talks and said Iran ‌had chosen not to accept American terms, including to not build nuclear weapons. "The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that's bad news for Iran much more than it's bad news for the United States of America," Vance said. "So we go back to the United States having not come to an agreement. We've made very clear what our red lines are." Vance said he talked with U.S. President Donald Trump half a dozen times during the talks. ...

PrestondeTipp Apr 12, 2026 -3
Neither side wants to agree to the others terms Meanwhile the US sends two destroyers through the strait unmolested. Iran threatened them but did nothing, suggesting they don't have as much leverage as they bluffed.
-3
Taliesin5899 Apr 12, 2026 +119
They never pretended to have the ability to control all traffic. All they have to do is blow up one ship out a thousand to make shipments transiting uninsurable.
119
luc_que_te_passa Apr 12, 2026 +54
Did we forgot that all of this begun when the US bombed Iran in the middle of negotiations? Sending two destroyers through the strait, again in the middle of the negotiation, is a provocation. I would guess, that Trump try to bait the Iran military to make some kind of a statement. But they let it slide, because if they would act on it, the US would have a powerful argument to initiate/resume attacks to them. On the other hand, Iran purpose is to disrupt the oil market, so they aim is to destabilise the fuel market. So the two destroyers don’t matter for the plan. And the US didn’t get anything out of the two warships crossing the strait. The ships are now in the Persian Gulf without an exit strategy, so helpless.
54
Cocosito Apr 12, 2026 +2
Since when has this administration cared about *casus belli* lol
2
TracingRobots Apr 12, 2026 +15
I don't see it that way. Iran doesn't want to escalate. Any country with missiles that Iran has could have damaged those ships.
15
hootblah1419 Apr 12, 2026 +27
Two ships went through the straight and turned right back out.. they are not minesweepers, they did not e***** any ships.. it's not a win for the united states either. a win for the U.S. in this case would be the USA navy freely operating in the gulf which it has no ships in the gulf currently and commerce would be flowing which it is not.
27
Scriefers Apr 12, 2026 -10
2 American destroyers (costing about $2B each) freely entered and exited the the Persian Gulf through the strait. You don't sweep mines with destroyers and you don't risk those assets without knowing Iran's true capabilities/intentions. America was sending a message, and called Iran's bluff.
-10
superseven27 Apr 12, 2026 +22
Why should it be a bluff? Iran will attack just a few tankers that cannot defend itself and that will lead to no other tankers trying to cross the strait
22
Ohdake Apr 12, 2026 +1
If it had happened during active conflict or even at the time of kind of a simmering conflict, maybe. However, that is not so during the negotiations when neither side is supposed to be antagonizing the other side.
1
Apprehensive-War7483 Apr 12, 2026 +8
If you were Iran would you attack these ships or antagonize them during negotiations?
8
Happyplace_s Apr 12, 2026 +10
Bad take. They don’t have to disable every ship that passes. Just 1-2 would do what they want. Plus, if they did it while negotiations were still on…well that would just be really stupid.
10
krazybanana Apr 12, 2026 +2
They didn't harm the ships because they've agreed to a ceasefire for now genius
2
PapaTahm Apr 12, 2026 +1
>Meanwhile the US sends two destroyers through the strait unmolested. Iran threatened them but did nothing, suggesting they don't have as much leverage as they bluffed. **Iran definitely can sink those and whoever think it doesn't have no idea why Drones Launchers are problematic.** The reason it did not, is because U.S sent those as a way to antagonize Iran during negotiation, so that it would try to change public the perception of the war in case Iran attacked, "Iran does not have good faith". Iran would not throw a card it has over U.S and Israel just for nothing, they are not dumb they have been preparing for this for over 40 years. Also they don't need to sink every ship, Just the threat of the capability of sinking ships makes Insurance companies not allow ships go across.

Finally I can agree with Vance on something. This is very bad news for the USA.
-5

Where in that statement did you read that? Poor comprehension?
1
Fallouttgrrl Apr 12, 2026 -3
They are *literally* quoting Vance from the part of the article posted A continued war in Iran is bad for everyone
-3

Show the quote. They are *literally* not quoting shit lol.

Second paragraph of the parent comment: “The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement”
1
Fallouttgrrl Apr 12, 2026 +1
"The bad news is that we have not reached an agreement, and I think that's bad news for Iran much more than it's *bad news for the United States of America*," Vance said

Buddy, the quote is right there in the article

Prestigious_Yak8551 Apr 12, 2026
This is getting ridiculous. I agreed with JD Vance when he said this was very bad news for the USA. I did not quote him. When people quote, they use inverted commas. For example: "Hello, I am JD Vance. I wear eyeliner and f*** couches". - JD Vance. See how that works?
0
pat_the_catdad Apr 12, 2026 +69
Iran: “JD, if you call Donald *right now* and he answers the phone while at UFC — we have a deal.” Vance: 😐

bkfountain Apr 12, 2026 +31
Duh, the US has no leverage. Iran wasn’t closing the Strait of Hormuz before this war and agreed to a nuclear deal years ago with Obama. Iran has only been emboldened by all this and actually invading them with a large force to dig out the regime would be very unpopular in the US.
31
rnicoll Apr 12, 2026 +4
I think it's more the US has no credibility. Trump has demonstrated he'll tear up any agreement whenever he feels like it, so Iran isn't going to take their word on things.

What is going to happen now?
10
rubywpnmaster Apr 12, 2026 +16
More bombing. If you look at it from Trumps perspective it makes sense. Iran is in a position to keep global oil supplies restricted and high.  If he’s going to “lose” either way he may as well inflict maximum pain.
16
throwthisTFaway01 Apr 12, 2026 +8
Next play by play. We are going to start targeting critical infrastructure claiming it’s dual use is justification. Iran adds another strait to their Infinity Ring gauntlet (Bab-el-Mandeb). USA becomes even more fucked as volatility increases. Trump won’t survive until November if we’re at $8 gas and eggs reach labubu prices. Both IRGC and Trump knows this.
8

9
MAVERICK910 Apr 12, 2026 +52
The US sent JD Vance and two real estate agents to negotiate with career diplomats who have been studying/waiting over 40 years for such a negotiation. Who looks more worried? The Iranians are gonna make Trump pay, they have no current incentive to reopen the strait.
52
Ritaredditonce Apr 12, 2026 +15

2
TracingRobots Apr 12, 2026 +13
The US thinks they are the ones with the leverage. This is the problem.
13
too-left-feet Apr 12, 2026 +7
I can’t think of one single thing that is better for the US as a result of this war. We have increased energy costs, increased our deficit, depleted our armaments, lost the ability to conduct free trade in the Straight, lost the faith and backing of our allies, and stagnated ( at best) financial markets. A complete cluster and no good path to recover from. Trump really should be blaming himself, but he’s trump so he could start by stop listening to Netanyahu, stop listening to Lindsey Graham, firing Pete Hegseth, and relegating J.D. to menial tasks. Someone needs to be on the chopping block, it’s too big of a screw up to sweep under the table.
7
Waiwirinao Apr 12, 2026 +1
Until this trully causes hardships to MAGA America then nothing will change.

3

Option 1: The US fucks around a bit, gets bored, and leaves. Israel continues to bomb Lebanon. Option 2: Trump and Hegseth get riled up by those AI videos and just bombs the absolute piss out of Iran as Israel bombs Lebanon.

This is crazy, I’m feeling the same way now as I did when I was 8 when we went to war with Iraq “Wait, why are we doing this? There seems to be a lot better use for our money than this” And yet here we go again. And it’s the Republican’s fault…again. I’ll die happy to see the GOP dismantled and salt the earth they sprung from

4
MaybeTheDoctor Apr 12, 2026 +2
I think the direction Vance got was not to agree to any deal, as that would show compromise, and Trump just made everything worse. A better weasel solution for Trump is just to continue the ceasefire without an agreement on peace, and now he can both shout about how he won, how allies didn’t help, and how the ayatollah booth is against international law. His base will love how he found a non-compromising solution, and the market will see stability and not crash, and the $2m toll on shipping just adds $1 to a barrel of oil, which will just be priced in.
2
glumjonsnow Apr 12, 2026 +1
no, trump's play was to agree to a ceasefire that he never believed in and prepare to obliterate iran during the chaos - how is that not obvious

I had a feeling this was going to happen there are 4 things the Islamic Republic of Iran will refuse to negotiate on as follows. * the strait of hormuz must be under the full control of the Islamic Republic of iran. * The Islamic Republic of Iran must be given full reparations from the U.S for accumulated war damages. * An immediate end to attacks from the US and Israel against the Islamic Republic of Iran and it's proxies (Hezbollah, houthis, etc) as well as a guarantee they won't initiate future attacks against them. * The Islamic Republic of Iran must be allowed to continue their enrichment of uranium for peaceful purposes (powering nuclear power plants, other nuclear activities). Though there is some flexibility in some areas, their demands are still way too maximalist for the U.S to agree with them on. In my personal opinion, I had a feeling these talks were not going to be going anywhere and the american-iran war will continue after the ceasefire expires. There is also the possibility that president trump decides to chicken out (TACO) again and ask for more time; the man can be an unpredictable force of nature at times as seen with the capture of maduro and the bombing of Iranian bunkers. Time will tell
6
try_repeat_succeed Apr 12, 2026 +3
Also it was JD Vance. Dont know if the man has the skill set to deescalate. If escalation was what was needed he might be the man for the job...
3
Federal-Piglet Apr 12, 2026 +3
I agree but Iran seems to have paying for transition through the strait as the mechanism for reparations. Knowing the US will never pay.
3
_x_oOo_x_ Apr 12, 2026 +2
They should be the ones paying damages to 3rd party countries who didn't attack them but they bombed them anyway, like the Emirates, Bahrain, Kuwait, Oman, S. Arabia, Quatar, Iraq, Azerbaijan, etc.

Sad fact : Islamabad ( city of Islamabad) was once called Gandhara, the marvelous city where buddhism was peacefully spread to all parts of Asia.  No different than what the Taliban did to the Bamyan Buddhas . Destroying Cultural heritage of a place by changing its name is Peaceful religion 101.
