If there is delayed delivery then payment should also be delayed, no?

Apparently it was cash upfront.

Eh, America's unreliability is a fairly new development when considering how far in advance you have to place orders for weapons. Bet they won't be doing that again, though.

idryss_m Apr 17, 2026 +14
There is a lot the world won't likely do again concerning America. Trust being a big one....

spiderpai Apr 17, 2026 +4
I guess it is a fair price for the collapse of the US.

"Gottem Again" Art of the deal when it comes to europeans who cant grow a spine.

Wow can’t even keep up with basic deliveries now. The United States, epitome of unreliable.

The centrality of the US dollar in global trade rests partly on its role in the oil and arms trade. If Europe abandons US arms, it will accelerate efforts to use the euro or other currencies in major commodity trades, eroding a key pillar of American economic power. MAGA = Man America Got Assraped (by Trump)

Another argument in favour of European countries reducing their military relationships with the US and building stronger relationships and manufacturing within Europe. What's ironic is that in some sense, this is what US regime want, but I think they'll also come to regret it. (And maybe we all will. This experiment with crazy global interdependence we've been doing might be something we look back on as an effective guarantor against serious wars, while it lasted.)

It's exactly what the current US government wants, as they're just aiming to isolate and destroy their own country.

The trouble with Europe is that it's not unified. It will build almost the same plane 3 times and have 3 completely different production lines whereas the US and Russia will build one plane for that role and then build more of them for cheaper and also have funds available to do other stuff with. Let's be honest, the Typhoon/Rafael/Gripens are all wanting to be air superiority fighters with multirole. The Rafael just wants to be a typhoon with carrier capabilities, the Gripens wants to be a Typhoon that can land/take off on roads. All build with completely different production lines and components. Now look at the F35. It has variants that can do all of that and are 95% the same. Saves on costs big time! Russia is the same with their jets, as are the Chinese. Russia can build more for less.

>Now look at the F35. It has variants that can do all of that and are ~~95%~~ 25% the same. Fixed that. Supposedly they only have 25% parts commonality and are essentially three different planes that just look alike.

Dunno why you are being downvoted, there is a reason France just recently left another development agreement for a drone (i think), all these nations have differing needs and getting them all to agree will always be difficult. Sometimes I wonder if the people who call for a more unified Europe understand how different each country is, getting a small group to work together can be difficult, now imagine nations with millions of people lol.

Green_Dream20 Apr 17, 2026 +2
Yeah, unfortunately I don't think Europe will unify without being invaded. We have tried the "one state take over the whole continent" model a few times and it never worked out hahaha Most other big countries were just left that way after the British left hahaha The next gen stealth planes are another example. You have UK/Italy/Japan trying to build almost the same stealth fighter as France/Spain. Germany keep asking to join one or the other but then want the whole program to change to accommodate them. It is inevitable the Nordic countries also start their own stealth program too. The APCs/Tanks/ Artillery also suffer from this problem as well. We cannot match Russia to scale despite having triple the population and 5 times the money.

Well, that's.....not really surprising.... at all....unfortunately.

"We're keeping the guns you paid for" Well that will be good for sales. I'd assume Rheinmetal to the moon again ahahaha Australia really has to be wondering about the submarine program....
30
Lucky-Elk-1234 Apr 17, 2026 +3
Australia has already come to terms with the fact that we’re not getting any submarines.
3
So_Not_theNSA Apr 16, 2026 +3
Submarine program was DOA for multiple reasons. I get why the Aussies wanted nuke boats but the whole program seemed overly optimistic

jrizzle86 Apr 16, 2026 +5
I suspect this isn’t going to help with Europe divesting from US defence
5
theorizable Apr 17, 2026 +1
Why wouldn't we want a strong Europe?
1
sorrison Apr 17, 2026 -1
He’s inferring that Europe will still need to rely on the US if they don’t have weapons
-1
theorizable Apr 17, 2026 +3
A strong Europe includes weapons manufacturing.
3
sorrison Apr 17, 2026
Sure - that industry doesn’t appear overnight though.
0
jrizzle86 Apr 17, 2026 +3
No I am inferring that Europe will increasingly no longer invest in US defence
3
no_names_left_here Apr 17, 2026 +3
Just another reason why Europe and Canada need to team up to sever that dependence on american weapons platforms.
3
Rcomian Apr 17, 2026 +1
we need to sever our dependency on America in general, for everything.
1
So_Not_theNSA Apr 16, 2026 +16
Guess that is what happens when you blow all your global stocks of multiple weapons on an unnecessary war
16
to_glory_we_steer Apr 16, 2026 +13
And proceed to not win said war
13
jakedublin Apr 16, 2026 +5
doesn't matter, he will still claim victory anyways.
5
dontcryWOLF88 Apr 16, 2026 +4
Or, are preparing for a much larger war:/
4
Cobs85 Apr 16, 2026 +1
I think this is the real story. Countries and blocs around the world are positioning themselves for ww3
1
catscanmeow Apr 16, 2026
is it that or is it just US retaliation for not helping the US elsewhere

Oveja-Negra Apr 16, 2026 +8
What I don't understand here is, I always read (from supposedly knowledgeable people) that the United States is prepared to fight two wars at once against big opponents, but it seems we are discovering America is kinda similar to Russia, a paper tiger. I mean... Iran is not even a formidable adversary and with this campaign they are in trouble when it comes to replenish ammo? I wouldn't be surprised if/when China invades Taiwan, something similar happens and the chinese fail miserably at achieving their goals in their pre-planned terms.

Designer_Win_1724 Apr 17, 2026 +2
The "two wars" doctrine was more about having enough forces to handle simultaneous conflicts, not necessarily about having infinite stockpiles for prolonged engagements. Our military is built for high-intensity, short-duration fights, not years of supplying allies while maintaining our own reserves.
2
Oveja-Negra Apr 17, 2026 +2
Having enough forces would help them in case a land invasion or something like that occurs, for every other situation, ammo (bullets, missiles, etc. etc.) is what would make a difference. You say the military is built for high-intensity, short-duration fights. Well, this war against Iran is still under two months of duration and according to this article, it is already creating supply problems. If you're gonna begin to be starved of them after a month or so, then in my opinion you're not really in a position to sustain two wars at the same time. And let me repeat that Iran is anything but a strong opponent, and after all these weeks, despite what Trump says, both USA and Israel haven't achieved any of the main goals.
2
Alexander_Granite Apr 17, 2026 -1
The US isn’t a paper tiger, they can just about any country in the world. Trump holding weapons to Europe for not doing what he wants. Allies need to get their shit together.

ChatamKay Apr 16, 2026 +6
How about a refund and we’ll look at alternatives. Your shit expensive weapons are sus anyway.
6
SoftwareSource Apr 17, 2026 +2
I'm sure all of those countries will be super eager to buy more American weapons after this.
2
Glum-Breadfruit-6421 Apr 16, 2026 +4
Japan will welcome them with open arms. Once they go, I don’t think they’ll be running back anytime soon.

theguy1336 Apr 16, 2026 +4
Lmao they gave the money up front, to this regime?
4
soulstormfire Apr 17, 2026 +2
yes, no
2
Nic727 Apr 16, 2026 +2
So, does it mean Canada can cancel F-35 deliveries?
2
___metazeta___ Apr 16, 2026 +1
No cancellations on preorders
1
alvinofdiaspar Apr 16, 2026 +1
But they expect you to keep buying their vapourware weapons…
1
toorudez Apr 16, 2026 +1
Will there be a fuel surcharge on them?

...But Israel will get their deliveries on time! F****** wankers.
1
Caymonki Apr 16, 2026 +1
Don’t worry, Israel will still get it’s weapons
1
Icefade Apr 17, 2026 +1
I have turds that are more reliable that this current administration. America will never have the same standing and respect on the world stage, even if the next president does everything in their power to undo this chaos it will never be enough because trump showed in 4 years time you could dealing with another compete and utter fuckwit again. At least previous republican presidents understood the game and played accordingly within the rules. You threw away all that power, influence and respect to simply ‘own the libs’. Soooo much winning 😓
1
little-teatime Apr 17, 2026 +1
Nor only to own the libs but also to distract from Epstein

jimicus Apr 16, 2026
There's a big f****** surprise. Not content with not paying to arm Ukraine, now the US is refusing to make delivery. Wonder what the weather is like in Moscow this time of year.
