Oh we wish it was just inflation, we’re in a much worse stagflation environment

If I were Powell I would not hold back in the next CPI report.

People really saying “demand destruction” cuz they’re afraid of saying “stagflation”.
77
arb1698 4 days ago +25
Eh demand destruction would be worse cause you would lose jobs and and can have rampant inflation while stagflation can have a job market slightly go down or hold stable and inflation but yeah it's all really stagflation the word corporate media is afraid to say.

Maybe they’re not saying stagflation because inflation and unemployment are both low right now.

I really don’t trust any statistics that come out of the Trump admin TBH. J Powell is probably one of the only sane ones left at the Fed.

I doubt that unemployment would be off by over a factor of two. The actual stagflation of the 70s had 9% unemployment and the price of oil increased by 300%. Economists aren’t saying stagflation because it has a specific meaning. Powell would agree with that assessment.

60% voted for the GOP. I hope next time they will understand.

10 of the last 11 recessions have occurred under Republican admins. They aint figuring it out this time either.

Who was the poor sob for the 11th?

Jimmy Carter

Jimmy Carter also inherited the Stagflation of Nixon and Ford. The Iranian revolution during his presidency also didn't help, considering the recession hit a year later. I find it hard personally to pinpoint a specific policy by Carter that led to his recession, unlike some other Presidents on the list of recessions

He was dealt a shit hand but even in his own words he wasn't the best President. He was a great human being though.

Also, we would be a lot better off if they had at least kept the solar panels on the White House. Can you imagine where our country would be now with energy policies starting from there?

There's a theory that the American people select Presidents that are the opposite of their predecessors in some way. Nixon and Ford were crooks, so Jimmy Carter was an honest man. Carter was earnest, Reagan was a polished slimeball.

Because of Republicans.  They decided to back Israel, the rest of the middle east said f*** you and cut oil production, causing the energy crisis. Nobody talks about this and it drives me f****** crazy.

Tbf, Carter is pretty RINO all things considered.

humanoideric 4 days ago +11
ya mean DINO?

Ahelex 4 days ago +7
Ah right. Though on further thought, he probably wouldn't fit into either at this point given he does prioritize decency and humanity more.
7
PancAshAsh 4 days ago +5
I mean he's dead now so he's not currently prioritizing anything. He managed to piss off pretty much everyone as President including his own party and he made some poor cabinet choices but he's without a doubt the best ex-President of the 20th century, and probably the nicest human being to be president in the post-WW2 era.

OK, but wasn't the housing crisis of the early 2000's caused by the Democratic party giving Bush Jr. a pass. Could be off. You'll win by default because of Jr's trillion dollar war.

Educational_Report_9 3 days ago +4
Not totally sure about the early 2000s, but hard to give Bush Jr a pass when he took a hard deregulatory approach and removed restrictions on banks and lending. This lead to a housing boom and eventual collapse. One of the worst recessions in history.

"Damn it Biden!!!" - no, just no. Not the reason. If fact Biden fixed the last recession Trump caused. Everyone needs to sit down, forget about which side they are on, and look at the facts. Virtually everything the GOP is doing is screwing the middle class. Its not the gays who are keeping wages flat while causing inflation. Its not the drag queens who are slashing every program that helps the poor and middle class. And its not immigrants who just gave the wealthy $3 trillion increasing out national debt.

> Its not the gays who are keeping wages flat while causing inflation. Its not the drag queens who are slashing every program that helps the poor and middle class. Well, their existence makes a wonderful scapegoat for the people who are ready to destroy their own life if it destroys the complete existence of LGBT.

Screw the WSJ for trying to spin the last jobs report as “good news.” Absolutely divorced from any relevant context.

WSJ has the credibility of Fox News. They’re both run by Rupert Murdoch.

Why is the stock market ignoring that among other things like Iran rejecting the ceasefire propoal for hope that a diplomatic solution is just around the corner?

I believe that you are right. Trump is just the face for Big Business, Big Oil and Big Tech. And like the sycophants in the Emperor's New Clothes, they are feeding at the troft while hoping no one else sees through the lies.

Because the stock market is for rich people with disposable incomes. The average Joe who’s poverty adjacent isn’t playing around on E*Trade.
