That’s a dishonorable discharge, right?

Bad Conduct Discharge for the uninitiated. Arguably worse as a Dishonorable really doesn’t mention why, it’s just bad. A BCD tells everyone what kind of demeanor you have.

Slighted_Inevitable May 6, 2026 +121
Both result in complete loss of benefits and any bonuses can be clawed back too if he didn’t finish the term.
121
DanielCraigsAnus May 6, 2026 +54
You can upgrade a dishonorable discharge to other than honorable
54
Initial-Lead-2814 May 7, 2026 +13
You can ask for an upgrade, what every 6 months?
13
Takemyfishplease May 7, 2026 +8
Yeah but for a long time they werent really doing it, and it’s fairly difficult irl.
8
Slighted_Inevitable May 7, 2026 +3
For something like this it would be basically impossible. Most of the time to even be considered you have to be endorsed by a CO or sometimes a group of active NCOs.
3
Spoonacus May 6, 2026 +100
Not at all worse. DD is a lot like a felony and and BCD is more like a misdemeanor. Both can include jail time but DD is much more severe and can even carry the death penalty. Think it also means losing rights to own a firearm but I can't remember if that's always the case or not.  And you can get a BCD from pretty much anything you can court martialled for. It's punitive so you HAVE to be court martialled to get it but you can be court martialled for damned near anything. It doesn't have to be a severe crime. It can be AWOL or fraternization or something else that UCMJ can punish but isn't a real crime outside of the military. There are so many. Not going to a doctors appointment. Jumping off a boat. Bad mouthing your boss. Faking sick. It's not likely to warrant the BCD but absolutely possible and you'd be surprised how much bored, cruel, or insecure officers like to "make an example."  BCD kinda fucks you for government jobs but you can still make it work. You also lose pretty much all VA benefits which was probably the whole reason to enlist. It's not good but it's not the end of the world. Depending on the crime, it might not even get picked up on a background check and is a non-issue after seven years anyway.  It might get expensive with legal fees but you can also get it upgraded to something less severe. You can also request a BCD at your court martial. Like, "yeah, I'd rather just take the BCD and leave the military rather than do confinement and come back to a low rank." It's rare but an option.  Anyway, f*** that guy. Full Dishonorable and lots of confinement.

Retireegeorge May 7, 2026 +27
Loss of right to own a firearm would be quite a good idea for this guy.
27
Bagellord May 7, 2026 +8
Dishonorable discharge disqualifies someone from possessing/buying firearms legally. It's basically equivalent to a felony or domestic violence charge, in that regard.

Floom101 May 7, 2026 +4
But what will they serve at Trumps dinner?
4
The_Blue_Rooster May 6, 2026 +42
If so, only because it made the news, I was at a party where a drunken sailor showed up with a gun and gathered everyone in the living room to hold at gunpoint while he interrogated us convinced his wife was cheating with someone there(She was cheating but not with any of us). His punishment was that his CO forbid him from going to that house again. For what it's worth that was long before Trump, this isn't another dumbass "In this administration" comment.

The Christian nationalist regime is ok with Israel because they hate Muslims more than they hate Jews.
2
Human-Election-9939 May 7, 2026 +8
Evangelicals need israel to fulfill their doomsday prophecy and bring back their 'messiah'. Thats literally it. They do not like jews any more than they like blacks or Trans people or Muslims.
8
sulris May 9, 2026 +2
Racists view Israel as a way to “get rid of” local Jewish people. It’s their version of the “back to Africa” movement. That’s why they can love Israel while being antisemitic.

Jesus Christ Fort Polk is breaching containment again. I swear everyone who's stationed there and at Ft Cavasos who doesn't just abandon ship as soon as they're possible are always the greasiest, scum of the earth imaginable

Right after basic I went to jump school. While we were waiting for our last jump, the instructors were going around to each of the new guys and telling us our first duty station. When he came around to me he told me Fort Polk. Him and a couple others laughed.  At the time I didn't know why.
50
ImperiumRome May 6, 2026 +33
So ... what's wrong with Fort Polk ?
33
JustSmallCorrections May 6, 2026 +70
It's in the a****** of Louisiana. Terrible location in a terrible state. Closest town (leesville) is right outside of post and its biggest draws are the Walmart and various strip clubs. Compare that to the areas around most other bases. There just isn't anything to do there. Wasn't a huge issue for someone like me who is happy to stay in, but a lot of younger soldiers like to get out and about. Polk is pretty bad for that.
70
GourdonHamsey May 7, 2026 +12
I promise, there isn't shit to do outside Fort Drum NY.
12
Reveal-Basic May 7, 2026 +9
You have to drive an 40 minutes to get away from Watertown, but f*** you have the whole Thousand Island region and Adirondack right next to you! Scuba Diving, Hiking, etc. I did have to travel to Syracuse for a girlfriend however, I'll give you that.
9
GourdonHamsey May 7, 2026 +4
did she work at Paradise Found?? lol >.< there are those amazing things you mentioned. Loved it during the fall, driving around. Then getting lost, but not really, and find a badass small diner called: ["Cooperstown Diner"](https://wgna.com/one-of-the-worlds-tiniest-diners-in-upstate-ny-turned-100/) in Watkins Glen. It's one of the worlds smallest diners.
4
Reveal-Basic May 7, 2026 +5
Know that place in WG! Far as SCUBA diving in the Finger Lakes, it was Skaneateles for me. Second cleanest lake in continental US, and tiny freshwater jellyfish! Seneca had some sunken boxcars to dive in on the northern part of the lake.
5
Reveal-Basic May 7, 2026 +3
One was a Therapist for some state facility, another was working in her Forestry MGMT masters from ESF. There was a Onc County Social Worker too working towards her master. I have a soft center hard shell career lady type I guess haha.
3
adubb221 May 7, 2026 +32
>its biggest draws are the Walmart and various strip clubs you have just described most of the army bases... leonard wood? walmart and strip clubs. leavenworth? walmart and strip clubs. sill? you guessed it! walmart and strip clubs.
32
JustSmallCorrections May 7, 2026 +15
Well I can't speak to any of those, but the differences between Polk and Campbell, Lewis, and Benning were pretty stark.
15
Bagellord May 7, 2026 +5
Ft Leavenworth Kansas? I mean it's right outside Kansas City, so as long as you have transportation you've got a major metro area to go do stuff in
5
wzlch47 May 7, 2026 +7
As a single 24 year old E5 playing OPFOR, it was a blast. I got to go out in the woods and play laser tag a couple weeks each month. I spent my weekends off rotation in Beaumont, Texas skydiving with friends. I completely understand those who hated Polk. There was enough to do within an hour and a half that made the opportunities for having a great time plentiful.
7
Kaarl_Mills May 7, 2026 +7
Your job was to troll the rest of the army, you're a statistic anomaly
7
JustSmallCorrections May 7, 2026 +1
Same. As someone who spent the majority of those years playing starcraft, call of duty, and Warhammer, Polk wasn't bad at all.
1
kuroxn May 8, 2026 +1
Lmao just that?
1
trynared May 6, 2026 +34
Quick, name an army base with a *good* reputation lmao
34
hlgb2015 May 6, 2026 +24
Benning seems to be the least bad of the big bases, which isn’t to say it has a good rep, just not a full on slumville like Bragg or Hood or Polk.
24
SilvyValeMead May 7, 2026 +7
Ft Lewis is good place to be, lots of things to do in the area.
7
_nicejewishmom May 7, 2026 +4
Technically a joint base now, I think. Air Force locations are usually pretty decent.

Except for the water contamination, steroids, suicide rate, bad command decisions, and history of warcrimes committed by the 3rd/2ID, yeah, Fort Lewis can be nice. If you are already a native of the PNW or anywhere else that is temperate rain forest.
4
thenuinn May 7, 2026 +3
Rucker was pretty nice.
3
mechajlaw May 7, 2026 +1
If you're already used to small town Great Plains I've heard Fort Riley is pretty decent. Manhattan KS doesn't exactly have a lot going on but you could certainly do worse.

Let me tell you something, i was a medic on active duty in the army when Obama was president. Not a single battle buddy of mine talked about "winning the war in the middle east" or any radicalized middle east propaganda that the US or any country is pumping out. This guy sounds like a classic Section 8. But with this headline, and the current political landscape, it works. 99% of my battle buddies literally couldn't tell you why we were in the middle easy, and they certainly didnt act like they gave a single shit about it. It was always go to PT, do your day job, drink alchol after work, and just try to stay out of trouble. After 3/4 years, you get the f*** out and never come back. Npbody EVER gave a single flying f*** about what was happening in the middle east or Isreal. Ironically it would be us who would have to die in their wars, yet none of us really understood why we were even in Iraq or Afghanistan. I really feel for the people being forced to do shit in Iran having never signed up to fight that pointless bs.
179
Vegetable_Good6866 May 6, 2026 +92
What made Chelsea Manning decide to release all those files was because when she got to Iraq she looked around and realized "wtf are we doing here?'"
92
Blagsc May 7, 2026 +36
Some people just have more morals/ethics, some people cant stand what they saw. Some understand more or are more active and cant handle not saying something. Whistleblowers and etc are rare for a reason (outside of getting punished for it) Most soldiers will just go "dunno did my job" not inherently out of malice but just cause thats what a large bunch of people do (Also having known military whistleblowers myself, most of them are the "ive seen enough, ive had enough of my fellow soldiers complain to me. I'm standing up and taking the blow")
36
Lirael_Gold May 7, 2026 +23
You signed up to support US interests through the use of military force. That is quite literally the job of any/every military. The US hasn't fought a defensive war since 1865, (okay 1941 if we're being generous) you knew what you were getting into.
23
ActuatorTasty4982 May 7, 2026
I give the benefit of the doubt because they get literal children in schools. I don’t think an 18 year old “man” (kid) knows any better. We don’t really have a culture for the military beyond “they protect us” (somehow) while we also all know deep down the wars are all unjust, but you don’t know that as a kid and I can excuse it for a kid. The age they get most of these guys they really are not equipped and that’s by design
0
MirrorComputingRulez May 7, 2026 +42
> having never signed up to fight that pointless bs. Everyone in the military signed up to do this. That's literally the job.
42
Easy_Yogurt_376 May 7, 2026 +29
Yeah it’s kind of weird how we infantilize the troops like they didn’t sign up for war like activities

ActuatorTasty4982 May 7, 2026 +5
I mean if you signed up for the military you signed up for pointless BS, as you just described. Hate to say it cuz I get your point but let’s be real, unfortunately y’all get suckered into this culturally and because it’s a good opportunity economically when you are a kid. But this exact pointless bs is what you sign up for even if you known it at the time or not

The US has been "at war" for >98% of it's entire existence. What reasonable person would assume they'd be able to join the US Military, and NOT get sent somewhere to blow up brown people? What in our history has happened, to give ANYONE the impression, they Won't be getting sent somewhere to blow up brown people....???????????????????????????????????????? >I really feel for the people being forced to do shit in Iran having never signed up to fight that pointless bs. I Don't, and I was stupid enough to join the Navy once upon a time... The entire time I've been alive, the US has been blowing up Someone, and they've always been brown.

I'm all for gun control. Nothing sucks more than hitting a bystander. On another note. I'll back all gun control measures the moment the rest of the country starts enacting anti-nazi measures. Until then, I'll be thankful the 2A exists, and at least gives me the chance, however fleeting it may be.
