40
Musclecar123 Apr 7, 2026 +94
I’ve put off getting a new car because it felt like a bad idea to spend a bunch of cash in an uncertain economy. I’m glad I am not saddled with a loan or put out cash for used. I’ve been driving a beater which I can fix myself. It owes me nothing.
94
HalfADozenOfAnother Apr 7, 2026 +70
Don't worry. When the economy collapses so will oil
70
Mrchristopherrr Apr 7, 2026 +76
Eh, it took a little while for oil to hold out in 2008. Good thing unlike then we don’t have some unnecessary war in the Middle East interfering with oil prices

Time to buy some solar panels and live in the woods.
402
lunarmodule Apr 7, 2026 +231
Those are probably expensive too because of tariffs, or they need petroleum products to be produced, or supply lines, or something. Also, pick your woods carefully because he's trying to sell our national forests. Edit: Sorry for the bad news. Look you will do great!
231
SovereignAxe Apr 7, 2026 +95
Despite the tariffs they're still not actually that bad. I got a set of 4 bifacial 200W panels for about $170 a piece. If you don't go bifacial you can get them for as low as about $140. Get a set of 10 of those and you've got 2kw of solar potential, all for about $1400, which is plenty to run a car charger, a fridge, and a few lights. What gets expensive is the batteries you'll want to store all that power (assuming you work during the day, when you aren't around said solar panels).
95
Opposite_of_a_Cynic Apr 7, 2026 +108
Hot tip for solar: Buy used. New studies have shown that solar panels far exceed their rated lifespan by two or three times what was expected. You can find people selling older panels on places like Marketplace for really c****. I picked up 20 multicrystalline 260W panels manufactured in 2010 for $650.
108
Anjz Apr 7, 2026 +27
Good tip actually, I never thought about buying solar used.
27
Destronin Apr 7, 2026 +489
Those Biden “i did that” stickers that were placed on gas pumps sure aged like milk.
489
LazyLobster Apr 7, 2026 +552
Normally, I would say "presidents don't affect gas prices as much as you think", but it's pretty obvious who is driving up gas prices.
552
Shopworn_Soul Apr 7, 2026 +322
Well, normally you'd be correct. Someone has to go pretty far out of their way, on purpose, to f*** shit up this badly.

MooPig48 Apr 7, 2026 +77
Robert Anderson invented one in 1832. Imagine where we would be if we had just continued from that point instead of just building gas ones
77
VallenValiant Apr 7, 2026 +54
That wasn't his fault. In 1832 the average home didn't have electricity yet. Home charging is one of the greatest advantage of EVs and he was just too early.

Listening to a retired army brig gen talk about this on cnn, he says his opinion is that this is softening the defenses for a ground invasion of the island (which he even said he wanted to go on the record as saying is a horrible idea that will have massive casualties on both sides regardless of success)
6152
jon_steward Apr 7, 2026 +2268
A ground invasion is insane which is why we know Trump will definitely do it.

That's Trump's playbook to a tee. Say super whacky shit to get people all distracted and then actually do something that would have been considered whacky before but seems less so now compared to the more whacky stuff you said. It's whack, yo.

Working-Glass6136 Apr 7, 2026 +98

firewall245 Apr 7, 2026 +118
When the Trump administration got voted in and everyone was saying that they were going to completely remove the democratic process, I thought “wait but Trump first term he continually was turning people over because they hated working for him” which seems to still be the case, even with his diehard loyalists

Reminds me of Tom Cruise firing stunt coordinators until he found one who would let him do a stunt. Trump is firing generals until he finds one that tells him this is a great idea.
68
luv2ctheworld Apr 7, 2026 +77
Sorta... He was looking for a stunt coordinator that would allow the potential to let Tom Cruise severely injure/kill himself. He was literally looking for someone to let himself get hurt. This unstable genius is literally looking for someone to let him hurt a whole population of people.
77
VagueSomething Apr 7, 2026 +42
Trump is used to being surrounded by staff who don't speak up when he literally shits himself, he really doesn't take kindly to people telling him he's proverbially shitting the bed with his military plan. Kings of the past used to have jesters to keep them humble, this king never learnt from history though.

And that's completely ignoring being a rapist and a pedophile

22
pak256 Apr 7, 2026 +95
What people fail to grasp is the reason Trump has been so powerful is his cult of personality. No one they have tried to get to replace has that. The reason Congress goes along with Trump is their fear his base. He tells them to vote for someone else and they will. He’s the Republican kingmaker with absolute loyalty. Once he’s gone it’s going to be a power vacuum and no one they replace him with would be as effective
95
Vio94 Apr 7, 2026 +23

I genuinely don't know what to do. The people around me don't even know these things are happening and act like I'm the crazy one when I bring it up and act alarmed. I live in a blue city in a blue state that has been mostly unaffected at this point so everyone is able to live their regular lives without caring. I feel very, very alone and helpless.
1597
prettylittlenutter Apr 7, 2026 +602
I live in a red area, but I think a lot of people are highly concerned and also don’t know what to do because calling senators, representatives, etc, seems to do nothing to change what the administration has been doing. As a kid, I remember hiding under my covers if I heard a creak or something scary. I would tell myself if I just close my eyes and wait a few minutes it will be over. I feel like all of us are hiding under the covers but our eyes are unfortunately forced open and it’s not getting better.
602
suz_gee Apr 7, 2026 +192
I call my senator and rep (blue state) and their offices says that they agree with me, and then... that's it. If my senator says he's powerless and my rep says she's powerless.... welllll that sure makes me feel pretty powerless too. Plus, ya know, I need health insurance bc my foot is fucked up and I'm in PT, my husband has elevated liver enzymes and is on seizure meds and blood pressure meds and my four year old is in speech therapy. All in, insurance and appointments is just over $1500/month but without insurance it would be $3-$4k. So my family can't really general strike.
192
J_J_J_Schmidt Apr 7, 2026 +112
This is the reason universal healthcare won't get passed. Can't strike if your insurance is tied to your job. Allowing open bribery from lobbyists and citizens united saying money is free speech are the death knell of the American people's ability to evoke change. It's hopeless as long as we allow corporate interests to dictate policy.
112
HarryButtwhisker Apr 7, 2026 +73

MrsSalmalin Apr 7, 2026 +78
I'm Canadian (to be fair) and one of my coworkers came to work a couple weeks ago and said "omg have you heard about the Epstein stuff????" Amd I was like "what, like, the newest released tranche of files?" "No, I just mean I never heard of them before, that's crazy that the US president is implicated" b**** where have you BEEN!?! I truly do not understand how people can be so unaware. I'm not even THAT on top of news. I wish you luck. I've been talking to my friends and family about what I can do. If we couls go back in time to when Hitler was ramping up, wouldn't we ask our governments to step in and stop him? I want to do that now. But I feel like it won't work. Carney knows Trump is terrible and needs to go - everyone knows. But nothing is happening :( How does the little person help??? I don't want to tell my nieces and nephews that I did nothing.

What's your suggestion? Democrats have flipped 29 of 29 contested seats from red to blue, even in counties Trump won by double-digit margins since his election. 8+ million people protested last weekend. The party in power has the ability to stop this, but our Congress and Supreme Court are complicit in all of this. Are you suggesting violence against our government with its new Gestapo?

PsychicFoxWithSpoons Apr 7, 2026 +154
What would I do? Violence? the real question is: why are our elected officials tolerating this? Every Democrat should be calling for impeachment loudly and blocking everything they can, and pressuring the Republican Party to remove its own dictator.

Best we can do is Cory Booker on another podcast arguing that we need to find some middle ground with people that want 1/2 the US to die.

The title seems to hint that the oil infrastructure was hit. But other sources say that only military targets were bombed, so it's a bit confusing right now.

Rock_mage Apr 7, 2026 +262
They (USA) have been bombing the Northern portion of the island for a while now. Probably both are hit, it's not an insanely large island. Most people are expecting a ground invasion coming from the South of the island.
262
dbandit1 Apr 7, 2026 +190
Trump already 'obliterated' the military targets

Where can I trade my Volkswagen Golf for a good horse?

Get a donkey, because it’s a dual-use animal and acts as a guard dog as well.

Horse prices will skyrocket soon. You will have to finance a good horse at maybe 29.99% APR.

My wife was giving me shit yesterday for buying a sack of rice, hopefully she ends up being right and it won't be needed.

What if we just drop trump off in his underwear in the middle of Iran along with his personal bank accounts as an offer to end this mess?
138

It would end the war overnight.

I asked my conservative relatives WHY we're doing this and no one had even a slightly convincing answer. Most just sat there silently.

At this point they have nothing but blind loyalty. They’ll literally stare at you when questioned fairly about it all. What are we even doing anymore, the world would genuinely be safer with a chimp in charge

206
Enjoyer_of_Cake Apr 7, 2026 +44
He'd need to take the right wing media conglomerates as well though, and they aren't drinking the Kool aid. They're just making money off of it. I guess without the base they could be dismantled the old fashioned way.

I'm shocked that you didn't get a "Kamala would have been worse" or "Well what about...". Those idiots are always about the angry deflection.

“The courage to do what other presidents wouldn’t” “Fixing Obama/Biden’s mess” “American security” “They were about to have a nuke!”

BigJellyfish1906 Apr 7, 2026 +61
Don’t let them get away with that: * “Which is what? Close the straits of Hormuz? Because that’s all he’s accomplished.” * “what mess?” * “How? What he’s actually doing is validating decades of anti-American propaganda.” * “his own pentagon and intelligence people say that’s completely wrong.”
61
BigJellyfish1906 Apr 7, 2026 +87
This shuts them up in a fit: Kamala wouldn’t have started a war with Iran. Kamala wouldn’t have started this stupid tariff c***. Kamala wouldn’t have gutted the federal government. Kamala wouldn’t have deported all of our seasonal workers and menial labor workers that we depend on. If this mother f***** had done *literally nothing*, we’d be in a VASTLY better situation right now.
87
Remarkable_Sea_1430 Apr 7, 2026 +53
Same with COVID. If he had just sat quietly in the background while the experts spoke, we'd have all come through this more intact. But he just couldn't help shoving his fat f****** face into things, spouting all sorts of nonsense, and causing division when we should have all been working together.

I was stuck deciding between 2 job offers, one hybrid (3 days in office and 2 at home) and another 100% remote with an option to go in to the office if you wanted. The hybrid one paid more. I chose the remote job, at this rate, fuel cost are going to exceed the increase pay by end of Summer
51
mrlahhh Apr 7, 2026 +540
Even allowing for the fact this is a ‘war’, this is f****** despicable stuff. He’s just threatened to eradicate a civilisation. He’s backing himself into corners by setting deadlines which he is now, not even sticking to. How is anybody supposed to negotiate in good faith, or trust a single thing? The US people & ‘politicians’ have failed the entire world for generations to come. Do your f****** job, impose your f****** laws and remove this man from office, by force if that is what is required.
540
LaurenMille Apr 7, 2026 +136
> How is anybody supposed to negotiate in good faith, or trust a single thing? You don't, because the US will just execute your negotiating team during ceasefires. Not even on accident, they do it repeatedly.

The part I don't get... You think they'll somehow be more willing to open the Straight of Hormuz after you pummel them more? Wouldn't that just make them even more determined to undermine you?

They used many gbu-57 bunker busters. Sounds like coordinated strikes across Iran including a bridge in Qom, the city where it was confirmed the supreme leader was still hospitalized and unconscious. Not good for anyone.

China gets about 20% of their oil from Russia, Venezuela, and Iran. At what point will they step in to stop this from getting worse?
26
Toddison_McCray Apr 7, 2026 +16
As others have said, the negative impact on the U.S. far outweighs the negative impact on their economy. One of China’s massive plays is to wait for a country to crater their economy, then come in and implement major public works or other things that boost their economy. China trying to make it worse would just be them shooting themselves in the foot.

There is a pretty good chance that due to the interruption in the delivery of fertilizers that a lot of people are going to stave due to the actions of the US in the Middle East. The world has to start sanctioning the shit out of America because if we dont, it will only get worse.

I think the world will find a tipping point where, if we don't manage to rein in this bully regime, they'll have no choice but to do the unthinkable and attack us. This kind of bullying, the list of countries he wants to "pound" and "own" is so dangerous. Now the military is obeying him... at what point will the world decide this regime is too much of a global threat? I'm glad I'm old and don't have kids to worry about.
