Musclecar123 3 days ago +94
I’ve put off getting a new car because it felt like a bad idea to spend a bunch of cash in an uncertain economy. I’m glad I am not saddled with a loan or put out cash for used. I’ve been driving a beater which I can fix myself. It owes me nothing.

Time to buy some solar panels and live in the woods.
402
lunarmodule 3 days ago +231
Those are probably expensive too because of tariffs, or they need petroleum products to be produced, or supply lines, or something. Also, pick your woods carefully because he's trying to sell our national forests. Edit: Sorry for the bad news. Look you will do great!
231
SovereignAxe 3 days ago +95
Despite the tariffs they're still not actually that bad. I got a set of 4 bifacial 200W panels for about $170 a piece. If you don't go bifacial you can get them for as low as about $140. Get a set of 10 of those and you've got 2kw of solar potential, all for about $1400, which is plenty to run a car charger, a fridge, and a few lights. What gets expensive is the batteries you'll want to store all that power (assuming you work during the day, when you aren't around said solar panels).
95
Opposite_of_a_Cynic 3 days ago +108
Hot tip for solar: Buy used. New studies have shown that solar panels far exceed their rated lifespan by two or three times what was expected. You can find people selling older panels on places like Marketplace for really c****. I picked up 20 multicrystalline 260W panels manufactured in 2010 for $650.
108

68
luv2ctheworld 3 days ago +77
Sorta... He was looking for a stunt coordinator that would allow the potential to let Tom Cruise severely injure/kill himself. He was literally looking for someone to let himself get hurt. This unstable genius is literally looking for someone to let him hurt a whole population of people.

Trump is used to being surrounded by staff who don't speak up when he literally shits himself, he really doesn't take kindly to people telling him he's proverbially shitting the bed with his military plan. What people fail to grasp is the reason Trump has been so powerful is his cult of personality. No one they have tried to get to replace has that. Once he’s gone it’s going to be a power vacuum and no one they replace him with would be as effective

I genuinely don't know what to do. The people around me don't even know these things are happening and act like I'm the crazy one when I bring it up and act alarmed. I live in a blue city in a blue state that has been mostly unaffected at this point so everyone is able to live their regular lives without caring. I feel very, very alone and helpless.
1597
prettylittlenutter 3 days ago +602
I live in a red area, but I think a lot of people are highly concerned and also don’t know what to do because calling senators, representatives, etc, seems to do nothing to change what the administration has been doing. As a kid, I remember hiding under my covers if I heard a creak or something scary. I would tell myself if I just close my eyes and wait a few minutes it will be over. I feel like all of us are hiding under the covers but our eyes are unfortunately forced open and it’s not getting better.
602
suz_gee 3 days ago +192
I call my senator and rep (blue state) and their offices says that they agree with me, and then... that's it. If my senator says he's powerless and my rep says she's powerless.... welllll that sure makes me feel pretty powerless too. Plus, ya know, I need health insurance bc my foot is fucked up and I'm in PT, my husband has elevated liver enzymes and is on seizure meds and blood pressure meds and my four year old is in speech therapy. All in, insurance and appointments is just over $1500/month but without insurance it would be $3-$4k. So my family can't really general strike.
192
J_J_J_Schmidt 3 days ago +112
This is the reason universal healthcare won't get passed. Can't strike if your insurance is tied to your job. Allowing open bribery from lobbyists and citizens united saying money is free speech are the death knell of the American people's ability to evoke change. It's hopeless as long as we allow corporate interests to dictate policy.

I truly do not understand how people can be so unaware. I'm not even THAT on top of news. I wish you luck. I've been talking to my friends and family about what I can do. If we couls go back in time to when Hitler was ramping up, wouldn't we ask our governments to step in and stop him? I want to do that now. But I feel like it won't work. I asked my conservative relatives WHY we're doing this and no one had even a slightly convincing answer. Most just sat there silently.

At this point they have nothing but blind loyalty. They’ll literally stare at you when questioned fairly about it all. What are we even doing anymore, the world would genuinely be safer with a chimp in charge

He'd need to take the right wing media conglomerates as well though, and they aren't drinking the Kool aid. They're just making money off of it. I guess without the base they could be dismantled the old fashioned way.

Don’t let them get away with that: * “Which is what? Close the straits of Hormuz? Because that’s all he’s accomplished.” * “what mess?” * “How? What he’s actually doing is validating decades of anti-American propaganda.” * “his own pentagon and intelligence people say that’s completely wrong.”

This shuts them up in a fit: Kamala wouldn’t have started a war with Iran. Kamala wouldn’t have started this stupid tariff c***. Kamala wouldn’t have gutted the federal government. Kamala wouldn’t have deported all of our seasonal workers and menial labor workers that we depend on. If this mother f***** had done *literally nothing*, we’d be in a VASTLY better situation right now.

Same with COVID. If he had just sat quietly in the background while the experts spoke, we'd have all come through this more intact. But he just couldn't help shoving his fat f****** face into things, spouting all sorts of nonsense, and causing division when we should have all been working together.

I was stuck deciding between 2 job offers, one hybrid (3 days in office and 2 at home) and another 100% remote with an option to go in to the office if you wanted. The hybrid one paid more. I chose the remote job, at this rate, fuel cost are going to exceed the increase pay by end of Summer

Even allowing for the fact this is a ‘war’, this is f****** despicable stuff. He’s just threatened to eradicate a civilisation. He’s backing himself into corners by setting deadlines which he is now, not even sticking to. How is anybody supposed to negotiate in good faith, or trust a single thing? The US people & ‘politicians’ have failed the entire world for generations to come. Do your f****** job, impose your f****** laws and remove this man from office, by force if that is what is required.

LaurenMille 3 days ago +136
> How is anybody supposed to negotiate in good faith, or trust a single thing? You don't, because the US will just execute your negotiating team during ceasefires. Not even on accident, they do it repeatedly.

China gets about 20% of their oil from Russia, Venezuela, and Iran. At what point will they step in to stop this from getting worse?
26
Toddison_McCray 3 days ago +16
As others have said, the negative impact on the U.S. far outweighs the negative impact on their economy. One of China’s massive plays is to wait for a country to crater their economy, then come in and implement major public works or other things that boost their economy. China trying to make it worse would just be them shooting themselves in the foot.

I think the world will find a tipping point where, if we don't manage to rein in this bully regime, they'll have no choice but to do the unthinkable and attack us. This kind of bullying, the list of countries he wants to "pound" and "own" is so dangerous. Now the military is obeying him... at what point will the world decide this regime is too much of a global threat? I'm glad I'm old and don't have kids to worry about.
