Trump has been wanting to get this island since 1988.
*I choose an issue. What would he do about Iran, for instance? ‘I’d be harsh on Iran. They’ve been beating us psychologically, making us look a bunch of fools. One bullet shot at one of our men or ships and I’d do a number on Kharg Island. I’d go in and take it. Iran can’t even beat Iraq, yet they push the United States around. It’d be good for the world to take them on.’*

Why should he? Congress has basically given up their jobs to him, the Supreme Court usually bows to him, and his base basically wouldn't care if he raped their kids right in front of him.
Even when he was convicted of dozens of felony counts he was never actually punished, just given a stern talking to and a wagged finger. And then he was elected president again.
None of this is a distraction. Everything he's doing, he wants to do because he's just a vile, narcissistic dictator.

Nah I think his admin really believed (because they are profoundly stupid and actively despise expertise and intelligence) that Iran was going to be a Venezuela 2.0. Kill the leaders, get the new guys to agree to a profit share to avoid being killed.
But Iran is not Venezuela, for a whole number of reasons. And every decision since as been a logical (if morally reprehensible) response to the worsening quagmire.
We can't leave with Iran still blocking the straight, because that would be politically ruinous and a massive black mark on the prestige of the American military.
We can't stay put because we've ran out of things to bomb that are actually military targets.
Only political option is forward, a ground invasion. The only reason it hasn't happened yet is because we didn't have the military assets in place to do so because we figured we wouldn't need them.
The same political machinations are why we went into Vietnam and Afghanistan and stayed there for so long. It's the same reason Russia is still in Ukraine. The only real question is whether we will use Nukes this time. Unthinkable in the previous examples, but with this administration nothing is beneath them.

I think he has been talked out of using nukes. To his way of thinking it is quicker and easier. We have loads of them laying around unused. From a cost perspective it is a smart move in his mind. I think he knows he can sell it to Americans as just another bomb. A bomb is a bomb is a bomb, this is just another kind of bomb. He will say it saves lives, American and Iranian lives.
The reaction by the rest of the world is the problem. He can handle NATO by saying they abandoned him and it’s their fault. Putin has threatened using them and he can use that against Russia. China would be the real wildcard.

Yeah I think they had copied Russias 3 day special operation thinking Iran was going to just roll over and take it. It’s not like they haven’t been preparing for this since the 50’s and radicalized by the actions of the USA’s and Israel’s recently. It’s gonna get way worse before it gets better. I’m really worried they’re considering nukes cause a rapist is in charge of nukes.

Yeah the military has war plans for engagements with practically every country. I can 100% guarantee the war plan for a conflict with Iran would have included operations to take and hold the strait of Hormuz in an all out conflict.
But fearless leader likely went full Napoleon at Waterloo or Russian campaign and is so convinced of his own tactical brilliance that he overruled his military advisors thinking decapitating leadership would lead to an uprising and their operation would be over in a weekend .

People compare an invasion of Iran to Iraq or Afghanistan or Vietnam etc.
but they’re wrong, it would be more akin to Ukraine and Russia now, and Russia has over a million casualties so far and over a 160,000 name linked KIA with 300,000 actually KIA estimated.
All this in under five years
This is MUCH different from Vietnam where the US lost some 50,000 KIA over the span of 20 years or Afghanistan with 20 some years and 2,400 dead.
The drastic numbers difference is NOT because Ukrainians are somehow simply superior fighters than afghans or Vietnamese
The primary difference is technology. Modern real time intel allows US intelligence to coordinate strikes with Ukraine positions in real time, AI can notice changes in pixelation that human eyes can’t and can analyze a tremendous amount of data in minutes that would have taken humans days or even weeks.
Simple and c**** drone technology and advanced missile tech combined with real time intel allows much weaker forces to continue to fight and inflict casualties on stronger opponents.
This was not possible until recently.
There are only three countries with the necessary satellite infrastructure that can provide this ability: the US, Russia, and China.
We see how effective it has been against Russia, and we see how Ukraine even after being decapitated is still able to find, target and destroy US interests.
So, in conclusion. Not like Vietnam not like Iraq or Afghanistan, the US ground offensive in Iran would look more like the Russian ground offensive in Ukraine.

That was just one of the ever-changing points. But in reality, Trump doesn't give two shits about anyone but himself.
I'm convinced that what happened was that Netanyahu wanted the Iranian threat to be over forever and knew that Isreal couldn't do it on their own. So, he convinced Trump that they had intelligence that many of the Iranian leaders would be in one location and that by taking them out the regime would fall and Trump would be a hero. It's likely a very similar pitch that he had given to previous presidents, but now he had an idiot that would fall for it.
Now, the plan hasn't worked out the way he thought it would and he's panicking.

The idea behind seizing the island is one of leverage. It’s the only place in Iran with a harbor deep enough to dock supertankers.
Iran needs Kharg island and its infrastructure intact if it wants the money to rebuild when this is over.
If the US takes it intact then it can be traded back to Iran in return for greater concessions in the peace deal. Iran would have to go with what the US says or the facilities on the island would be destroyed. If this happens then Iran would only be able to export oil on small ineffective tankers, cutting 90% of their oil exports.
Irans only option would be to take on massive foreign loans to rebuild, and even then it would take years to get the island running again, during which they will be completely broke and unable to rebuild much else. They may chose to negotiate to prevent that.
44
Whatsthatbro3653 days ago

Which would drive up global oil costs... And hit you in the wallet... 3
FredFuzzypants3 days ago
+8
True, but since Iran knows that the US trying to invade and hold Kharg Island as a bargaining chip is a likely strategy, it's possible they might blow it up (causing casualties) rather than let it fall into American hands. They've already demonstrated that they can implement a toll on ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz which could be an alternative source of income not subject to oil embargos.

Unfortunately that was my mother in laws exact stance. She thought Hillary should be in jail over the emails. F****** emails. And this f***** is out raping and killing and extorting?
These people are truly a lost cause.

The way more competent Democrat lady was sabotaged by a lot of democrats who thought they could f*** about and not find out.
So now we have someone who is completely insane killing people and driving up the cost of oil in wild schemes that harm everyone globally and he's leveraged all the good will the USA's ever had into stupid get rich quick schemes making the USA absolutely despised globally and diplomatically.
He's repeating gunboat diplomacy forgetting that people who have been threatened tend to remember those threats and seek to ensure no one threatens them again.

I think blaming democrats is pretty dumb, sure it was problematic but republicans elected this because they agree with all of this. It’s firmly republicans who have allowed this to happen.

They'd never arrest a sitting President, no matter who it is. Don't forget the SC ruling as well.

They couldn’t even arrest him when he wasn’t president. Turns out that if you’re a billionaire cult leader, you’re immune from the law.

SCOTUS would rule that everything in the Epstein files were all retroactively official presidential acts and covered by immunity.
Shadow docket of course, so there would be no actual ruling to dissect.

This is the answer to Fermi's paradox.
In a massive universe with systems far older than our own, why don't we detect intelligent life? Because the time span needed between developing technology capable of extinguishing all life and the time needed to leave the planet and explore the universe is so vast, and technological evolution accelerates so rapidly, that there's a nearly perfect chance that life will extinguish itself before it has the ability to explore the cosmos.
On earth we have 190ish nations. We've come to the brink of nuclear catastrophe and have had 2 world wars in the past century. It just takes one narcissistic sociopath with nothing to lose in one government to end it all. Over a period of time, it's a near certainty. Trump is just the latest in a string of people who will eventually get us there.

The government uses our tax money to contract with private weapons dealers that they’re in bed with. Every weapons manufacturer makes billions and gives kickbacks and “gifts” to the government.
The average American citizens are the ONLY ones who get fucked by wars

I am prepared to be down voted to oblivion. I have been frantically calling every senators office in DC, pleading with them to stop this madness. Republican and Democrat. I don't know what to do. I am only one person and I have never felt so f****** helpless. I have been leaving messages, in tears, asking them to please grow a conscience and put an end to this. I don't want anything like this to happen to the people of Iran. I don't want nukes to ever be used again. But we are dealing with the most evil man I have ever witnessed in my lifetime and a large part of the population in the US does not give a f*** about anyone other then themselves. I'm going to keep calling, I'm sure I will be on a list by the end of the day. Not a single office has picked up their phone to speak with me personally. Just leaving messages that I fear no one is going to listen to. Please anyone in the United States that is reading this. Call whoever represents you and beg with them to end this nonsense. If your dealing with Republican representatives or senators, tell them they will still have Vance in the White House, but their souls will forever be tainted as the ones who let a genocide happen. Never in a million years would I thought I would be forcefully part of the most evil and uncaring population on the planet. I don't believe in God, but, if there is anyone looking over us, please protect the people of Iran tonight and please let cooler heads prevail. I'm sorry the rest of the world that I can't do anything more to help. I feel so useless
