it seems toppling saddam is still causing issues for the americans. saddam was a horrible human being, to be sure, but geopolitically he counter balanced the iranians. the gulf war showed him what would happen if he over stepped, the reason for iraqi freedom can at best be called an intelligence failure of multiple states and at worst an outright lie.

Saddam fought a war with Iran, with western backing. He lost. Them Iranians are tenacious mfers..

it left the iranian's militarily broken as well with their counter offensive into iraq, sending children as young as 9 to clear minefields by walking over them before the real soldiers and tanks went in..that war was hell for both sides. I wouldn't say either side won anything and it ended in the previous status quo mostly.
