I know the headlines tomorrow will talk about how he made it all about himself and he came in super arrogant, and the meeting lead to nothing.

Yeah they've truly met their match in Iran because their leaders are much the same. That's why they are struggling like this, a table full of morons although it of course doesn't help that USA started this. Nothing of this needed to happen.

Humble_Monk3506 Apr 11, 2026 +2321
Trump knows he has no cards so he sent JD to be humiliated and also to have someone else to blame when things go wrong, typical narcissist.

But he can't fire his VP.., It's gonna be awkward when Trump tries to throw him under the bus.

Good to know there are legal rules that Trump will not break with zero reprocussions. /S
130
GraveDiggingCynic Apr 11, 2026 +29
It's not so much Trump's willingness to break the rules, it's just that he actually has no authority over JD Vance. By the same token, other than break ties in the Senate, the Vice-President has no authority at all. Various Presidents have dispatched their VPs to perform various tasks, and VPs are always happy to let off the leash.
29
madogvelkor Apr 11, 2026 +23
Yeah, the Vice Presidency is ironically one of the most secure and most useless positions in America. Because it was originally a consolation prize for the runner up in the election. The person with the second most votes got the VP under the theory that the second most popular candidate should be the backup if something happens to the President. Of course, no President could trust their political rival so they isolated and ignored them.
23
MercantileReptile Apr 11, 2026 +4
I'm a little surprised no VP has tried to *retire* a President yet, given the whole automatic succession thing.
4
ImaginationSea2767 Apr 11, 2026 +26
Yeah and its not like he could get murd- i mean suddenly commit suicide for getting in the way of plans. That has never happened to anyone right? /S

3
National-Two2417 Apr 11, 2026 +2
Repercussions only matter if someone is willing to enforce them and a majority Republican senate/congress wouldn't... they have no spine.

2
Bogdan555825 Apr 11, 2026 +2
And most importantly, he is an elected official, they were both on the ballot, he wasn’t just appointed to this position. You can’t fire elected officials probably anywhere in the world, think of it like trying to fire a mayor or a senator.
2
robodrew Apr 11, 2026 +2
Well, also because he is elected not appointed.
2
Orangecuppa Apr 11, 2026 +2
> Vance can only be removed if Congress impeaches him or he resigns. Trump was impeached twice and it did jack shit. So basically only if he resigns?
2
Sky_Ninja1997 Apr 11, 2026 +8
So what’s stopping Trump from going behind closed doors to Mike Johnson and Congress and telling them to invoke the 25th on Vance
8
meckez Apr 11, 2026 +49
Why should he fire him in the first place? He's an overall obedient b**** and occasionally useful scapegoat for Trump.
49
Sky_Ninja1997 Apr 11, 2026 +12
I’m more just asking if he wanted to fire him but can’t, what’s stopping him from doing that
12
Lews_There_In Apr 11, 2026 +16
He can't get rid of him unless he gets Congress to do it for him. That said, in the past presidents have effectively "shut out" their VP by completely by excluding them and relegating them to ceremonial duties. Truman is an example, as well as Hannibal Hamlin. Lincoln basically ignored Hamlin.
16
Subliminal_Kiddo Apr 11, 2026 +9
The 25th doesn't apply to Vance. In fact, the VP is the one who invokes the 25th. A VP can only be removed via impeachment and conviction or resigning. Johnson can only impeach, conviction - which actually removes the POTUS/VP from office - requires the senate to vote to convict by at least 67 senators. Dems would refuse to convict Vance out of spite .
9
advocatus_diabolii Apr 11, 2026 +3
If Vance is removed from the equation who can invoke the 25th?
3
GraveDiggingCynic Apr 11, 2026 +6
Well, if the Vice President resigns or is removed, the President must nominate a new Vice President which is then approved by majority votes in the House and the Senate. The only time it has happened so far is when Spiro Agnew resigned in 1973 and Gerald Ford was chosen as Vice President. From the 25th Amendment: >Section 2 Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
6
Larkson9999 Apr 11, 2026 +10
They are considered elected to the position for a four year term. Shit for brains would have to get the party to impeach and remove him, which would just move Mike Johnson to the position. Unless there's a new speaker by that time and then that speaker would become VP and if Democrat, they would likely 25th the president because he's an obvious dementia patient already. But those are all hypotheticals.
10
fullofspiders Apr 11, 2026 +5
Slight correction: Mike Johnson would not automatically become VP. The presidential line of succession (which Johnson is right after the VP) only applies to the office of the President. So if both Trump and Vance go, Johnson's up. If just the VP is vacated, the President would nominate someone and congress would have to approve. It happened with Nixon, which is how Ford, who was never elected as President or VP, became president when Nixon resigned. Prior to being nominated as VP, he was the House Minority Leader.
5
murdershroom Apr 11, 2026 +4
Mike Johnson would be a historic VP. The first blind, deaf, and know-nothing Vice President.
4
Lord__Abaddon Apr 11, 2026 +3
Also gay man which would be cool if it wasn't Johnson.
3
notacanuckskibum Apr 11, 2026 +4
It’s true, because he was elected. But the VP has very few defined roles, beyond taking over if the president dies. Trump could choose to just give him no work and ignore him.
4
ABucin Apr 11, 2026 +9
throw him under the ~~bus~~ couch
9
WomboShlongo Apr 11, 2026 +43
I pray to god that this backfires on Vance so badly that he invokes the 25th.

I hope to John Wick the same fantasy
5
TerraMindFigure Apr 11, 2026 +85
Iran apparently specifically wanted to talk to J.D. Vance and the White House obliged. No one knows why for sure but it may be because J.D. is the most anti-war person in Trump's circle.
85
Prize_Proof5332 Apr 11, 2026 +87
Also the Iranians were surprised at how unprepared and unserious Witkoff and Kushner were in previous discussions.
87
AgUnityDD Apr 11, 2026 +31
They are both still in the delegation, it'd be a hilarious power move by Iran to publicly announce they refuse talks until they are both sent out of Pakistan. They clearly fucked up the earlier negotiations because they are too stupid to understand the deal Iran was offering, it wouldn't hurt Iran to burn them and deal only with Vance and they'd have a much better chance of a deal with only him to deal with.
31
madogvelkor Apr 11, 2026 +13
Because they are businessmen and the Iranians are military and clerics. They are operating in entirely different cognitive spaces. Kushner works well with the Israelis and Gulf Arabs because they also speak the language of business and finance. Vance might actually be the best person for the job. He's been in the military stationed in Iraq, he grew up poor, he isn't a businessman or financier, and he's at least smart enough to graduate from Yale Law without being a legacy student. He may well be the most capable and well rounded person in the Trump Administration.
13
daniel_22sss Apr 11, 2026 +6
Whaaat? People who's only skills are kissing Putin's butt are bad at real negotiations? I would never figure that out after they spent a year trying to force Zelenskyy to surrender.
6
musci12234 Apr 11, 2026 +10
I mean most of trump's cabinet is people from fox News. If vance wants to hold a political office ever again he needs a ceasefire that gets oil flowing again.
10
llDS2ll Apr 11, 2026 +10
It's because Trump's brain is soup
10
YAZEED-IX Apr 11, 2026 +9
Isn't he the only politician in his cabinet? Unlike Trump himself, kushner, and witkoff. Also throwing what some other commenter said about them giving Vance their full cooperation if he invokes the 25th. That would flip the regime change attempt and be pretty funny
9
sillysyly Apr 11, 2026 +5
The 25th requires more effort than just an impeachment + conviction. People forget that within 30 days congress has to "confirm" the removal if Trump were to contest it's validity and that requires 2/3 of the senate and house to vote to confirm it. Impeachment + conviction is just a house majority and 2/3 of the senate.
5
EmergencyCucumber905 Apr 11, 2026 +3
Last time they dealt with Witkoff they got bombed during the negotiations.
3
EnvironmentalQuit473 Apr 11, 2026 +2
Isn't Vance on the card to be next president of the US? I want to know what his eye make up routine is. I hope they publish this.

Didn’t Iran asked for Vance because he was against the war?
6

He didn’t sent JD. Iran demanded it was JD.

While I agree, Cheeto Mussolini’s health is obviously quite bad. I don’t think he can travel.
5

I thought Iran asked for JD Vance.
3
TheMalibu Apr 11, 2026 +3
Trump knew if he went, they would have made an attempt on him. If they do Vance, he doesn't really care. But oh boy will he use it as cocaine for the war machine.
3
Unoriginal_Pseudonym Apr 11, 2026 +3
Trump wants Vance to fail hard for that reason AND because his ego will absolutely not allow anyone else's name to be associated with anything close to a successful negotiation here.
3
5hadow Apr 11, 2026 +3
And JDV totally deserves it
3
Phylanara Apr 11, 2026 +7
Or, the Iranians know JD is one of the few individuals able to invoke the 25th and he's opposed to this war. The negotiations could be "depose trump, take his place and we go back to former status quo to start you on your presidency looking like a god"
7
rsa1 Apr 11, 2026 +11
"How about you do a regime change in America and we throw in some nice Persian couches to sweeten the deal?"
11

Iranians requested to negotiate with Vance instead of Rubio
2
Difficult_Sort295 Apr 11, 2026 +2
Nah. They see Vance as the one who is not all in on the war. Vance obviously doesn't like this war. It's the only policy he has not been all in on.

Trump needs an insider to keep an eye on JD Vance
130
Shoddy-Fan-584 Apr 11, 2026 +129
Vance is accompanied by Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Two Jewish, deeply pro-Israel New York real estate developers whose involvement in the government in the first place is gobdmackingly suspect let alone in these highly sensitive diplomatic matters. I think it’s very clear whose interests Trump wants represented in these negotiations.
129
AlternativeScratch94 Apr 11, 2026 +38
Ironically Kushner is much more owned by saudi arabia than israel
38
beekeeper1981 Apr 11, 2026 +9
They are they corrupt and inexperienced negotiators who already failed, leading to the start of the war.
9

Trumps a coward who had no plan for Iran, and they threw out the Hormuz Uno card, and he realized he'd have to invade to reopen the Straight on his own, and that would cost him the Midterms, and they he'd be impeached and go to prison where he'd die. And here we are.
173
Lord__Abaddon Apr 11, 2026 +57
already cost them the midterms. Some dumb ass (probably the same one who told him about the tariffs) told him he if he attacks Iran it would boost the GOP and all it did was kick them in the nuts no one is happy and no one will forget how stupid it was come midterms. Maga won't vote for dems but they wont show up for trump.
57
BigMax Apr 11, 2026 +53
I think he really believed we would drop a few bombs, and the protesters would swarm government buildings and take over, and install a pro-U.S. government and erect Trump statues to thank him. That was his entire plan.
53
qdp Apr 11, 2026 +7
I honestly think the Maduro extradition emboldened him thinking it is that easy.
7
Cosmic-Hello-2772 Apr 11, 2026 +3
To put a tinfoil hat on, I kinda think that whoever was behind the Iran operation perhaps also orchestrated the whole Maduro operation just to prove Trump that this stuff can be done this easily and that the US have overwhelming technological, military and intelligence advantages over every other country on Earth, much so against Iran who were bombed last year and didn't retaliate that much. So that Trump would agree for such an operation. Otherwise, this kind of attack was a major redline for many Presidents Republican or Democrat, for decades. I can't independently interpret or see Maduro operation from this one. The timing is just too conspicuous. And I also can't see Trump coming up with such plan on his own. And I don't think the intelligence or strategy team behind Maduro operation is different than the Iran operation (the initial decapitation strikes).

Watch them bomb the peace talks with Vance there
5
Lord__Abaddon Apr 11, 2026 +10
Honestly it would be weird as f*** if Iran took the US's playbook and bomb the meeting with vance there. send some proxies and confirm he's there then hit it with a few drone strikes or suicide bombers. it would be the worst thing possible as vance would serve a purpose to unite the US against Iran and would bolster trump. but it would be an interesting Uno reverse card.
10
unimportantinfodump Apr 11, 2026 +88
F*** I saw the other day someone said there is no chance trump would go to a place named Islamabad and he would send his dog JD. F****** called it

Iran playing the US making JD get his hands dirty was pretty clever. This bumblefuck manchild is even more insecure than Trump. This will go very stupidly.
7
m3zatron Apr 11, 2026 +14
Iran is going to offer Vance this deal, “invoke the 25th and we’ll open the straight.” They are asking for him because he’s the most anti-war person in the cabinet. And they will appeal to JD’s quest for more power.
14
Most-Artichoke6184 Apr 11, 2026 +7

Do not worry, for the top of the top negotiators, that is witkoff and Kushner are here
5
Nick_Strong Apr 11, 2026 +25
JD is so thoroughly unlikable and uncharismatic that nothing can make him popular. That's probably why Trump picked him, to make sure MAGA dies with him. And Iran couldn't care less about JD. It won't give up control of the Strait of Hormuz, which they'll now use indefinitely as their toll booth.
25
TheLoneBlrReader Apr 11, 2026 +9
It was JD or Kid Rock..he didn't have a choice
9
True-Bandicoot-1424 Apr 11, 2026 +4
I truly hate him. Trump is a terrible human being, but at least he is true to himself. JD is submissive and weak. He looks even more a fool when he tries to take on Trumps strong arm persona. Utter embarrassment to America.

What political leader in the right mind would send their vice president into Pakistan for negotiations over a war in Iran!???

It'll be another pointless meeting. Israel will keep doing what Israel does and piss off Iran further.
5

The BBC is reporting from the ground in Islamabad ahead of high-level talks between Iran and the US. The question of whether the US and Iran would arrive in Pakistan has now been answered, but the two delegations still don't agree on some key issues, our correspondent Azadeh Moshiri says. [http://bbc.com/news/live/cn4v0xm9y0kt](http://bbc.com/news/live/cn4v0xm9y0kt) No surprise there.
