Yeah they've truly met their match in Iran because their leaders are much the same. That's why they are struggling like this, a table full of morons although it of course doesn't help that USA started this. Nothing of this needed to happen.

Trump knows he has no cards so he sent JD to be humiliated and also to have someone else to blame when things go wrong, typical narcissist.

Good to know there are legal rules that Trump will not break with zero reprocussions. /S
130
GraveDiggingCynic 2 days ago +29
It's not so much Trump's willingness to break the rules, it's just that he actually has no authority over JD Vance. By the same token, other than break ties in the Senate, the Vice-President has no authority at all. Various Presidents have dispatched their VPs to perform various tasks, and VPs are always happy to let off the leash.
29
madogvelkor 2 days ago +23
Yeah, the Vice Presidency is ironically one of the most secure and most useless positions in America. Because it was originally a consolation prize for the runner up in the election. The person with the second most votes got the VP under the theory that the second most popular candidate should be the backup if something happens to the President. Of course, no President could trust their political rival so they isolated and ignored them.
23
MercantileReptile 1 day ago +4
I'm a little surprised no VP has tried to *retire* a President yet, given the whole automatic succession thing.

And most importantly, he is an elected official, they were both on the ballot, he wasn’t just appointed to this position. You can’t fire elected officials probably anywhere in the world, think of it like trying to fire a mayor or a senator.
2
robodrew 1 day ago +2
Well, also because he is elected not appointed.
2

> Vance can only be removed if Congress impeaches him or he resigns. Trump was impeached twice and it did jack shit. So basically only if he resigns?
2
Sky_Ninja1997 2 days ago +8
So what’s stopping Trump from going behind closed doors to Mike Johnson and Congress and telling them to invoke the 25th on Vance
8
meckez 2 days ago +49
Why should he fire him in the first place? He's an overall obedient b**** and occasionally useful scapegoat for Trump.
49
Sky_Ninja1997 2 days ago +12
I’m more just asking if he wanted to fire him but can’t, what’s stopping him from doing that
12
Lews_There_In 2 days ago +16
He can't get rid of him unless he gets Congress to do it for him. That said, in the past presidents have effectively "shut out" their VP by completely by excluding them and relegating them to ceremonial duties. Truman is an example, as well as Hannibal Hamlin. Lincoln basically ignored Hamlin.
16
Subliminal_Kiddo 2 days ago +9
The 25th doesn't apply to Vance. In fact, the VP is the one who invokes the 25th. A VP can only be removed via impeachment and conviction or resigning. Johnson can only impeach, conviction - which actually removes the POTUS/VP from office - requires the senate to vote to convict by at least 67 senators. Dems would refuse to convict Vance out of spite .
9
advocatus_diabolii 2 days ago +3
If Vance is removed from the equation who can invoke the 25th?
3
GraveDiggingCynic 2 days ago +6
Well, if the Vice President resigns or is removed, the President must nominate a new Vice President which is then approved by majority votes in the House and the Senate. The only time it has happened so far is when Spiro Agnew resigned in 1973 and Gerald Ford was chosen as Vice President. From the 25th Amendment: >Section 2 Whenever there is a vacancy in the office of the Vice President, the President shall nominate a Vice President who shall take office upon confirmation by a majority vote of both Houses of Congress.
6
Larkson9999 2 days ago +10
They are considered elected to the position for a four year term. Shit for brains would have to get the party to impeach and remove him, which would just move Mike Johnson to the position. Unless there's a new speaker by that time and then that speaker would become VP and if Democrat, they would likely 25th the president because he's an obvious dementia patient already. But those are all hypotheticals.
10
fullofspiders 1 day ago +5
Slight correction: Mike Johnson would not automatically become VP. The presidential line of succession (which Johnson is right after the VP) only applies to the office of the President. So if both Trump and Vance go, Johnson's up. If just the VP is vacated, the President would nominate someone and congress would have to approve. It happened with Nixon, which is how Ford, who was never elected as President or VP, became president when Nixon resigned. Prior to being nominated as VP, he was the House Minority Leader.
5
murdershroom 2 days ago +4
Mike Johnson would be a historic VP. The first blind, deaf, and know-nothing Vice President.
4
Lord__Abaddon 2 days ago +3
Also gay man which would be cool if it wasn't Johnson.
3
notacanuckskibum 2 days ago +4
It’s true, because he was elected. But the VP has very few defined roles, beyond taking over if the president dies. Trump could choose to just give him no work and ignore him.
4

Iran apparently specifically wanted to talk to J.D. Vance and the White House obliged. No one knows why for sure but it may be because J.D. is the most anti-war person in Trump's circle.
85
Prize_Proof5332 2 days ago +87
Also the Iranians were surprised at how unprepared and unserious Witkoff and Kushner were in previous discussions.
87
AgUnityDD 2 days ago +31
They are both still in the delegation, it'd be a hilarious power move by Iran to publicly announce they refuse talks until they are both sent out of Pakistan. They clearly fucked up the earlier negotiations because they are too stupid to understand the deal Iran was offering, it wouldn't hurt Iran to burn them and deal only with Vance and they'd have a much better chance of a deal with only him to deal with.
31
madogvelkor 1 day ago +13
Because they are businessmen and the Iranians are military and clerics. They are operating in entirely different cognitive spaces. Kushner works well with the Israelis and Gulf Arabs because they also speak the language of business and finance. Vance might actually be the best person for the job. He's been in the military stationed in Iraq, he grew up poor, he isn't a businessman or financier, and he's at least smart enough to graduate from Yale Law without being a legacy student. He may well be the most capable and well rounded person in the Trump Administration.
13
daniel_22sss 2 days ago +6
Whaaat? People who's only skills are kissing Putin's butt are bad at real negotiations? I would never figure that out after they spent a year trying to force Zelenskyy to surrender.

10
YAZEED-IX 2 days ago +9
Isn't he the only politician in his cabinet? Unlike Trump himself, kushner, and witkoff. Also throwing what some other commenter said about them giving Vance their full cooperation if he invokes the 25th. That would flip the regime change attempt and be pretty funny
9
sillysyly 2 days ago +5
The 25th requires more effort than just an impeachment + conviction. People forget that within 30 days congress has to "confirm" the removal if Trump were to contest it's validity and that requires 2/3 of the senate and house to vote to confirm it. Impeachment + conviction is just a house majority and 2/3 of the senate.

Vance is accompanied by Jared Kushner and Steve Witkoff. Two Jewish, deeply pro-Israel New York real estate developers whose involvement in the government in the first place is gobdmackingly suspect let alone in these highly sensitive diplomatic matters. I think it’s very clear whose interests Trump wants represented in these negotiations.

Trumps a coward who had no plan for Iran, and they threw out the Hormuz Uno card, and he realized he'd have to invade to reopen the Straight on his own, and that would cost him the Midterms, and they he'd be impeached and go to prison where he'd die. And here we are.
173
Lord__Abaddon 2 days ago +57
already cost them the midterms. Some dumb ass (probably the same one who told him about the tariffs) told him he if he attacks Iran it would boost the GOP and all it did was kick them in the nuts no one is happy and no one will forget how stupid it was come midterms. I honestly think the Maduro extradition emboldened him thinking it is that easy.
7
Cosmic-Hello-2772 1 day ago +3
To put a tinfoil hat on, I kinda think that whoever was behind the Iran operation perhaps also orchestrated the whole Maduro operation just to prove Trump that this stuff can be done this easily and that the US have overwhelming technological, military and intelligence advantages over every other country on Earth, much so against Iran who were bombed last year and didn't retaliate that much. So that Trump would agree for such an operation. Otherwise, this kind of attack was a major redline for many Presidents Republican or Democrat, for decades. I can't independently interpret or see Maduro operation from this one. The timing is just too conspicuous. And I also can't see Trump coming up with such plan on his own. And I don't think the intelligence or strategy team behind Maduro operation is different than the Iran operation (the initial decapitation strikes).
