Marine amphibious carriers can launch addition f35s. I expect the aircraft in theater are burning through flight hours way faster than expected and they just need more aircraft. Rotating a super carrier in and out would be a bigger political and strategic move, and would tip one of the major issues with the modern maritime air fleet: there just isn't the staying power for a sustained campaign due to the additional complexity of modern aircraft.

Ford was going in for repairs ASAP from off the coast of Iran due to a fire that injured several soldiers (Destroyed like 100 beds, smoke inhalation injuries, etc.) as well as clogging toilets, and just the fact that morale was so low after being at sea for like 9 months. I'm sure that will leave a huge hole that needs to be filled out there!

Not trying to "ackchyually" you here but they would be sailors, not soldiers. I know for most people that doesn't matter but it is a point of pride for those that are enlisted (call a Marine a soldier and see how quickly they try to fight you, lol).
If it helps any, here's how it goes:
Army = Soldiers
Navy = Sailor
Air Force = Airman
Marine = My Ass Rides In Navy Equipment
Edit: In all seriousness, Marines are simply a Marine. They are extremely prideful (with good reason!) and the title of Marine is taken very seriously. You'll often hear them say "once a Marine, always a Marine".

1.) It's actually more than 600 beds lost, according to multiple sources.
Also, Sailors' racks (beds) aboard an aircraft carrier have storage underneath for all the Sailors personal items including clothes. So morale being low doesn't even scratch the surface for some Sailors on board.
2.) The Ford is not going for repairs off the coast of Iran. It's going to Souda Bay which is on the island of Crete, South of Greece.
3.) There have already been talks of extending the Ford's deployment up to total of 11 months if not a year.

This is why I question the absurdity of funds that go into military here in the U.S. Don’t get me wrong, I love that I can feel decently safe from foreign attacks affecting my every day life but it cost SO much resources to go to war overseas. A country attacking America would be foolish because you have very little claimable land so you would rely on aircraft carriers and other large ships which puts a major timeline on how long you can actually be out there.
If it is so costly to attack us then we really shouldn’t be sacrificing quality of life for the people living here over military prowess but IMO the military has been seen as the president’s tool for a while instead of a defensive force so that is the real reason I believe they dump so much money into it.

lol, the US is one of the most defensible countries one earth. Two f****** humongous oceans, neighbors who don’t like to be invaded just to get to you and also the frozen tundra an army has to cross.

That is a sanguine outlook. We have 3 carriers between the Gulf region and the eastern Mediterranean, plus bases all along the Gulf. They don't need an LHA for launching F-35C's. They would only need it for deploying an expeditionary force in Amphibious operations, it is also accompanied by two Amphibious loading docks.
This is the force that will assault Kharg island. It is pretty clear now that is what is intended.
18
fyrefox45Mar 18, 2026

The idea of these landing at Kharg is just fantasy. They cant even reach Kharg, and even the Lincoln is posted up on the far side of Oman to avoid more heat. They have to address Hormuz first, which isnt doable either.

Really doubtful on that, while possible, a MEU only contains about 450-500 actual combat arms Marines. The remaining 1,800-1,900ish are all support or air wing. I would almost argue that given my first hand experience on two similar deployments, that us air wing folks are among the largest component.

This ship, the Tripoli, was tested for doing F-35 operations, so its a possibility. But they'd have to embark somewhere to let all of the Marines onboard off and then embark the F-35s somewhere. I don't think they're bringing the Tripoli fod air support.
If anything, they'd be bringing the Nimitz or the HW Bush. The Nimitz was scheduled for decommissioning but that was delayed a year. The Nimitz I don't think would be ready, but the Bush is about finish training and therefore could deploy almost immediately.
Outside of Kharq island or the strait of Hormuz, I will add one possibility for the MEU deployment: Yemen. There was a ceasefire or truce signed recently but the Houthis are Iranian proxies, and signaled they would cause problems. Its possible that the Marines with Saudi and Yemeni support plan to attack the Houthis on the ground. Thats a a major escalation but probably more "winnable" than invading Iran, because we'd have aid from neighbors and the Houthis are weaker.

It’s been a while since I’ve read it, but I’m pretty sure the NAMP hasn’t changed too much, so the exhaustion of aircraft flight hours as it pertains to maintenance probably isn’t the real factor here. If that was the real issue, we could det out a bunch of aircraft to land bases in and around where the carrier is located. The Air Force does exist for a reason.
The real interest is the ground Marines on board. The first real ground troops near coming into theatre.
Is there a plan? F*** no! Will this end poorly? Hopefully not. But pray that cooler heads prevail.

Iran has supposedly been "on the verge of producing nuclear warheads" for literally as long as I can remember. They've been "2 weeks away" or "2 months away" since the 90s, at least. No reason believe it was true last June when it hadn't been true for decades prior.
Here's the kicker though: the biggest obstacle to Iran getting nukes was probably Ayatollah Khamenei. He had a fatwa against producing nukes because he said they were immoral. The odds of Iran actually building nukes greatly increased the moment he was martyred.

And isn’t that a major risk given that Iran would probably flood the zone with Shahed’s to try and score a single hit on an American ship, which would be a pretty big PR disaster for America?

They absolutely are. Iran doesn't aim to win conventionally, they cannot. They want to win by causing as much collateral damage as possible.

Maybe Bibi did set the whole Epstein saga in motion after all. Lots of non-smarts like to purport 3D chess is being played. Little do they know it wasn’t their dude playing it. He’s just the only rube to fall for it.

Sure would be a shame if the laundry of that ship had a maintenance issue and they had to return to port.

Any of them die, just remember that Trump called our war dead “suckers”. Anyone that does join the armed forces under Trump may unfortunately earn that moniker.
Trump has Sonny Corleone thoughts about people that join the services, except Trump is an actual criminal and not an actor portraying one.
