THEPIGWHODIDIT Apr 11, 2026 +62
Direct quote from negotiation: "What, you think you're some kind of Jedi, waving your hand around like that? I'm a Iranian. Mind tricks don't work on me; only money. No money! No deal! And no one else has a Strait of Hormuz, I promise you that"

Vance and Kushner must have disagreed with each other over some point.

It is his fault for sending kuntner and wilcox and a couch f*****.
9
Mysterious-Tie7039 Apr 11, 2026 +2
The last thing I was ever worried about with him was something bad being his fault. The man has literally never claimed accountability for being wrong about anything. He even (poorly) doctored NOAA hurricane maps to “prove” he was right

Not at all indeed. I think after news of the draft registration, it's a pretty telling sign that they are more interested in war than peace.
16
Jealous_Response_492 Apr 11, 2026 +24
A US land invasion of Iran would absolutely require a draft, as the US losses would be horrific. Iran is a geological fortress with a very few ways in. & zero ways out. This current endeavour has been possibly the USA's largest strategic mistake to date, invading would be catastrophic for them.

That would lead to a ton of flag-covered coffins. The losses would be insane. We Americans dont have the stomach for that kind of price, especially for something that is so *ridiculously* unnecessary, and wrong.
6
Menethea Apr 11, 2026 -1
Oh, they can try WWII style. The US always fights yesterday’s wars. Unfortunately, the Iranians fight 21st century style, where embarkation points are subject to concentrated drone and missile attacks, and landing craft are torpedoed or sunk by underwater, surface and airborne drones. Finally, any troops actually making it to the beaches face massed FPV drones that artillery and ground support airpower can’t combat. Add absolutely zero element of surprise and the likely results are very grim indeed
-1
TheModWhoShaggedMe Apr 11, 2026 +5
No way, Republicans? The people who have, for decades, jokingly sung, "bomb-bomb-bomb bomb-bomb Iran" to the tune of a Beach Boys song? The people who lied about WMDs to kill millions of Afghans and Iraqis over decades (while Bin Laden was in Pakistan)? I'm SHOCKED!
5

Yeah it was definitely a bad joke but I'll tell you something I really liked McCain and I don't think he would be anywhere near Trump in the last couple years

Trump is 1000% going to throw JD Vance under the bus when the negotiations go to shit. Trump just won't be able to help himself. Trump is by definition a textbook malignant narcissist.
392
HammerInTheSea Apr 11, 2026 +88
Actually throw him under the bus or just have another extremely public meltdown / hissy-fit ? Dude is becoming more and more unhinged every time something doesn't go his way lately. At this rate, I'll be surprised if he's still in office by the end of the year. It turns out Trump Derangement Syndrome is real... But only Donald has it.
88
AK_Panda Apr 11, 2026 +18
Gonna get ICE to dump him in CECOT.
18
__Yakovlev__ Apr 11, 2026 +3
Well he's already very annoyed with JD so fully throwing him under the bus wouldn't be that unlikely.  Not like he didn't send his crowd against his previous VP

Nah, he’ll just be left behind in Pakistan. JD who? Didn’t he have a foreign looking wife? He’ll be better off with her people. (And yes I realize confusing India and Pakistan is insulting to about 1.5 billion people but it’s about what I expect of Trump.)

They are there, the concern here is that Iran gets to collect tolls with no cut into the family crypto account

Yeah Kushner and Witkoff are there.
5
karsh36 Apr 11, 2026 +5
I think Trump is so desperate to have this wrapped up before the futures markets open Sunday evening EST that he'll make massive concessions to get a nasdaq positive headline.
5
Stockengineer Apr 11, 2026 +4
What concessions can they give other just completely just ghosting Iran 😂
4
karsh36 Apr 11, 2026 +3
Unlock their assets like the $6B
3
Stockengineer Apr 11, 2026 +3
That’s nothing compared to their yearly toll profits . And it’s also their money to begin with 😂 sort of a shitty card.
3
karsh36 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Still would be a concession, and it would probably on top of Hormuz concessions as well. Anything to get the oil flowing and nasdaq not falling

"talks between Iran and the US have entered an "expert-level stage" where committees specializing in economic, military, legal, and nuclear issues are meeting each other..." Lol. Iran is sending 4 PhDs. The US is sending a politicain, an in-law, and a real estate agent.

Iraq war? Maybe Libya in some ways
6
Jensen1994 Apr 11, 2026 +6
Iraq? A bigger f*** up than this? I don't think so. Let's see what Trump has achieved: 1. The likely breakup of NATO and loss of most of the US' close allies 2. The end of US hegemony in the West 3. An illustration to all nations that the US led global rules based order is no more and that nuclear weapons are a must - none more so than Iran 4. Made Iran great again by ensuring it's authority is asserted over the Straits of Hormuz, effectively holding the world economy to ransom and building up it's exchequer by charging $1m per ship 5. Strengthened Russia in its war against Ukraine by lifting oil sanctions , despite the billions of dollars spent helping Ukraine Any more for any more?
6
SpiderSlitScrotums Apr 11, 2026 +1
War of 1812 maybe?
1
idoma21 Apr 11, 2026
Mission accomplished.
0
Victor_L Apr 11, 2026 +30
It's definitely not an easy one. Other demands aside, Iran wants two things: for this not to start again in another year or so after the Americans and Israelis have had time to rearm and prepare for another round, and for the means to rebuild and rearm themselves. This has been an existential one for them, and they're battered. Trump's preference (as regime change and escalation are both really unpalatable) is that everyone pretends this war never happened, which means resetting the status quo and reopening the strait. Iran is pretty obviously not on-board with that, and they're going to hold their leverage in a death grip. The funniest negotiating tactic I can think of is if the Iranians offered Trump a cut of the Hormuz tolls. Absolutely unacceptable, but it would be the ultimate troll move.
30
FelixtheFarmer Apr 11, 2026 +13
Offer Donald a cut and say it's purely for the Trump family, not the US as a whole but just for the Trump's to enrich themselves
13
idoma21 Apr 11, 2026 +3
They are driving Trump nuts by talking about charging a toll and not giving Trump any of it. He’s probably having repeated TIAs due to the frustration.
3
closing-the-thread Apr 11, 2026 +7
“What’s that?” “War were declared”
7
HippyHunter7 Apr 11, 2026 +72
Instead of actual negotiators they sent JD Vance..... If I were Iran I'd take that as an insult.
72
Goldwood Apr 11, 2026 +68
Iran requested him since they didn’t like the other clowns. It seemed like a good tactic if you want to cripple his chances in the future. They seemed to think he was the most anti-war person in the cabinet and at odds with Trump over the war. Trump has seemed to keep him in the dark. So now he has to walk the line of making a deal that will satisfy Iran and Trump while also keeping his future aspirations intact. Unlikely to happen.
68
84Cressida Apr 11, 2026 +26
The NYT basically confirmed Vance was against any action against Iran.
26
AK_Panda Apr 11, 2026 +20
The NYT article basically confirmed that everyone except Trump knew Netanyahu couldn't deliver. Apparently that didn't matter lol.
20
Venat14 Apr 11, 2026 +10
If Vance didn't want this mess to happen, he should have stood up against Trump after calling him America's Hitler instead of becoming his lap dog.
10
ehonda2002 Apr 11, 2026 -2
I’m just asking can you please use your brain and stop falling for pro-Vance propaganda and fluff pieces made to make Vance sound like a secret good guy? Just stop
-2
UnoriginalStanger Apr 11, 2026 +4
Can you recognize that Vance can be against war in Iran but that in no way makes him a good guy? Vance is more on the isolationist side of the america first ideology than the intervensionist side. In other words, please use your brain or use the brain of more educated and informed people.
4
ehonda2002 Apr 11, 2026 +2
Sure that’s why he went to Greenland to threaten annexation. Get a grip
2
UnoriginalStanger Apr 11, 2026 +3
First of all words are worth little in the international stage. Second of he himself did not threaten annexation, specifically stating no intent of military force. Why? Some factions in pentagon have long viewed Greenland being taken by a hostile power as a threat to American sovreignty. So it does function with a more isolationist mindest. You can dislike somebody and still present them somewhat accurately.

9
CipherWeaver Apr 11, 2026 +4
Iran actually asked specifically for JD Vance.
4
HarEr89 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Iranian officials asked for Vance, because it was reported that he was against the war. That doesn't mean that it will be easy for Iran to get a good deal...or any deal at all. And nobody knows who is running the show in Iran now.
1
EatAssAndFartFast Apr 11, 2026
Lol like Iran send actual negotiators, the whole country was run by Khamenei and you couldn't talk to him you had to talk with Araghchi which wasn't even close to the Khamenei himself. You couldn't even directly talk to them.

9
cogit2 Apr 11, 2026 +10
The US literally shot itself in each foot over this issue. For $50k to $100k Iran can lock down the strait and it'll cost billions for the US to re-open it. This was a trap.
10
shoelessmarcelshell Apr 11, 2026 +25
A “trap” implies that Iran somehow lured the US into this without knowing this was a potential outcome. This wasn’t a trap, this was sheer stupidity and megalomania on behalf of the US.
25
cogit2 Apr 11, 2026 +1
You can be aware of a trap and still fall into it.
1
snirpie Apr 11, 2026 +4
I guess. But the better metaphore here seems to be to grab a shotgun, aim it at your foot and pull the trigger
4
idoma21 Apr 11, 2026 +1
Which Trump would call a trap. *”Who left this shotgun lying around, knowing how I like to shoot my foot? IT WAS A TRAP!!!”*
1
LabiaMajorasMask420 Apr 11, 2026 +5
It is crazy that "joint control" was actually proposed by the Americans. You can watch the press conference where Trump came up with the idea on the spot that the US should charge fees for the straight instead of Iran and now his dementia brain is fixated.
5
DependentLanguage540 Apr 11, 2026 +4
Donald Trump’s mom essentially tried to warn the world not to vote for her son and nobody listened. She literally called him an idiot with no common sense and hoped he wouldn’t get into politics. Figured Trump would wreck America much like his businesses, but didn’t think he could destroy the world too, but alas, here we are. Who knows how many people will now suffer with oil and food shortages going forward.
4
trisul-108 Apr 11, 2026 +4
This Ukraine talks all over again where Russia and the US wanted to decide on Ukraine ... Iran and the US are now discussing the rights of Saudi Arabia, Oman, UAE etc. without their presence at the talks.
4
idoma21 Apr 11, 2026 +4
What are you talking about? Kushner is representing Saudi interest.
4
trisul-108 Apr 12, 2026 +1
So, in the case of Ukraine, Witkoff was representing Russian interests. Russia negotiating with Russia without Ukrainian, EU or US participation.
1
Direlion Apr 11, 2026 +2
Will Trump sic a violent mob of bigots upon Vance for not accomplishing this task for him, just as he did to his previous VP?
2
Libertine444 Apr 11, 2026 +2
Noooo, what?! Really?!
2
The_Arch_Heretic Apr 11, 2026 +2
That's what happens when diplomats are forced to deal with dipshits that are out of their league. Did anyone honestly think JD, Trump's buddy, and Kushner were really going to accomplish anything? Like trusting a 5 year old to not touch a cake without supervision.
2

What an unnecessary unbelievable shitshow. Then straight was open a couple of months ago.. Now its not and everything in that region is fucked and the worlds economic situation is looking grim

JD should go off script and negotiate a treaty and force Trump to not sign it.
1

Totally missed the opportunity to title it.. "US-Iran talks on Strait of Hormuz reach 'impasse'-FT"
1

Is this before or after the US ships crossed? Also follow up was it after the 1st ship or the second ship? Again another question did either of the ships go through the second strait?

"Reach" deadlock? Buddy, we've been deadlocked since Day 1. Nothing has changed.

A crappy author, an entitled nepo-baby, and a real-estate developer. When American sends its people, they're not sending their best.

Should I schedule a TACO for the following Monday?

That was as quick as expected.

So back to war. But with TACO you never know. He claims now that he doesn't care if there is a deal or not.

Chimpanzees w sticks would have more success on these delicate, vital talks than those stupid, greedy white boys w hands in their pockets. 😡

America desperately wants this done with and for the moment Iran has stopped. It’ll be all negotiations from here on out.

KareenTu Apr 11, 2026 +2
Yes there is no way the war is resuming.

I believe the only reason JD is there, is a play by Trump to tarnish his image when talks fail since JD is seen as the more “sensible one” and Trump hates it.

Lazy, weak, piss poor management, pathetic, utterly useless to anyone but their pimps. American leadership a cesspool. Nuke and pave.

This negotiation is a farce and disgrace. Iran having control of the strait is a major geopolitics issue for the us, either the us have no ability to stop them, or they have no will to do what is needed. Think of the long term consequences of this.

The thing everyone is missing in this “ceasefire” noise is that Iran just pulled off the art of the deal. They didn’t just close the Strait; they installed a Yuan-denominated toll booth.   Iran is now demanding $1 per barrel in Yuan or stablecoins (via China's CIPS) just to let a ship pass. By even entertaining this “Joint Venture” toll, Trump is effectively signing the death warrant for the Petrodollar. It’s exactly how you’d expect a guy who bankrupted multiple casinos to operate: he bet the house on Iran “blinking,” lost, and is now trying to sell a total liquidation of U.S. financial hegemony as a “beautiful deal.”  You don't get "Freedom of Navigation" back once the world’s most important energy chokepoint starts taking the Yuan instead of the Dollar.

Iran will from Now On Never Give Up Control over Strait of Hormuz...It is NOT International Waters.... US attempt to send a Naval Warship through Strait of Hormuz while the negotiation had just begun thinking that since the Iranian Leadership is in Islamabad they will simply sneak in and stay there forever... WRONG... IRGC notified the leadership within minutes of its movement and were given authority to blow it up if it doesn't turn around in thirty minutes... Iran is NOT Messing Around...The Warship turned back.. —❗️🇺🇸/🇮🇷 BREAKING: The U.S. warship has stopped moving, and was turned away from the Strait of Hormuz by the IRGC Navy – Al Jazeera
