Vampires Sink Their Fangs Back Into Pop Culture - NYC Today
A wave of new vampire-themed productions, including Broadway's 'The Lost Boys' musical, Cynthia Erivo's one-woman 'Dracula' show in London, and the third season of 'Interview With the Vampire' on AMC, are bringing the undead back into the spotlight. Experts say the enduring appeal of vampires lies in their ability to reflect societal anxieties and desires around mortality, power, and identity.

In the twilight of every generation, it feels like vampires slip back into the shadows only to remind us they’ve always had true blood in pop culture—what they do in the shadows just changes with the times.

The stokers of the vampire fiction flame have been sharpening their blades waiting for their turn at bat. They’ve waited long enough in the underworld of pop culture and now all that’s left is to find the right vampire story that Hollywood can sell to the masses. Once they let the right one in vampires will be at the forefront once again.

Three examples, two of which have limited reach, do not signify anything being "back" in pop culture. A London production and a Broadway production (of a retro movie) have limited audiences, and 'Interview' is not new. Had the Buffy reboot survived and Talamasca (the third jewel in the Anne Rice universe of current TV shows) not been canceled, there'd be more of a 'bite' to this story.

According to my watchlist they never left. If it’s left to me I’ll find a vampire concept to watch lol
