The trick to making them less messy is to clearly specify which fire you want to cease in the agreement, or so I've heard.

faffc260 2 days ago +119
it also generally takes longer than a handful of hours to craft an agreement all are willing to actually cease hostilities for, this one seems to have been made to stop trump from attempting to burn all iranian energy infrastructure and bridges to the ground beyond repair.

Desperate people are desperate, he was fishing for an off ramp and took the first one offered. It didn't and won't work, but it got him a day to pretend that it did.

Market pumped hard, so mission accomplished. Just gotta get another pump n dump ready for next week. Possibly ground troops.

How does America come back from this? This is such egregious and blatant corruption and im not convinced this will be as easy as Trump getting the boot come 2029.
9
CogitoCollab 2 days ago +8
Spoiler it doesn't. This literally could be the start of the end of the American empire. Petrodollar being threatened alongside constant "attacks" on allies, the rest of the world might just start deciding to move on from USA. Debt is also starting to get out of control and that's not a good combo if the world stops using USD. This might be the big or small push required to get the ball rolling. For better or worse. American complacency might have to change, but that'll only happen afterwards. Average Americans dgaf about most geopolitical events unless they are directly affected, and even then can be too dumb or brainwashed to know why something is happening.

There’s no coming back from any of this. It’s going to get worse before it gets worse. This is the hollowed out, bare-assed America that has no shame, dignity, or respect. These are not serious people.
5
GovernorHarryLogan 2 days ago +3
Oh, they are serious. About lining their pockets. Just inverse whatever trump is saying the following day. Ceasefire? Short the market 12-24 hour later. Bombs flying again? Calls in about 36-48 hours. Not my favorite meta. Just had to read the patch notes.

Offered is putting it nicely. They spoon fed the "offer" text to the Pakistani PM to post on Shitter.
8
IntelArtiGen 2 days ago +7
Yeah I even wonder if Pakistan made sure Israel agreed to the ceasefire, or if they just thought "Trump will take care of that". I think Pakistan doesn't even recognize Israel as a state.

Never indicted? The original message brokered by Pakistan was clear as day, it said allies and Lebanon. The Prime Minister even tagged Vance in the f****** tweet

Pakistan writing a tweet and not presenting an actual document is meaningless Even Iran's OWN version didn't include Lebanon
6
zztopsthetop 2 days ago +11
Iran's own version absolutely included Lebanon.
11
aRadioWithGuts 2 days ago +24
Disingenuous because it included ending attacks on Iran and it’s allies.
24
Anxious_cactus 2 days ago +7
And "region" if I remember correctly, I think even Palestine and Gaza was implied. Complete ceasefire in the region.
7
Kanotari 2 days ago +3
To be fair, we all know Trump's not going to read it unless it's in Tweet form. He might lightly skim it in Tweet form.
3
NutsyFlamingo 2 days ago +3
Yeah I really don’t think there’s enough central control in place to write something that specific unless you want to technically have sides violate at the moment.
3
mr_birkenblatt 2 days ago +3
Obviously Trump only meant for Iran to cease fire
3
fury420 2 days ago +10
Having actual text for the specific terms of the agreement and ensuring everyone is actually on the same page is crucial too. The initial official statement by the Iranian Foreign Minister made no mention of Lebanon, nor did Trump announcing it, nor did quotes in the media attributed to Israeli officials... but the Prime Minister of Pakistan's tweet did. And tons of people seem to have bizarrely interpreted Iran's 10 demands as if they were somehow the 2 week ceasefire deal, instead of what Iran wants in upcoming negotiations to take place during the ceasefire.
10
arathorn3 2 days ago +9
Pakistan for 11 years "Bin laden is not in Pakistan, he must be in the mountains of Afghanistan" cia then finds Bin Laden living a mile away from Pakistan 's version of West Point or Sandhurst. forgive my american ass for being suspicious of anything a Pakistani official says
9
LevoiHook 2 days ago +2
Now that would require a plan and people actually reading stuff.
2
silverpixie2435 2 days ago +3
Ok why couldn't Iran or Pakistan do the same thing though? An actual signed agreement both sides can point to? Everyone is relying on some bizarre tweet by Pakistan that included "draft for PM" in the beginning.

Ceasefires require acts of good faith on all sides. Otherwise, they cease. I'm not going to stop fighting if you tell me you're going to do something, then bait & switch. That's not how this works. The Art of the Deal was literally about getting legal agreements based on bad faith negotiations.

TRUMP: If you don't accept this .13 cents on the dollar that I owe you for all the work you stupidly did without a deposit I will tie you up in court and you won't see your money for decades. TRUMP: I will spent 3 million dollars to bully you with court costs rather than pay you your 230,000 I owe you for all the plumbing you did in my new building. MAGA: Oh he's so smaaaart!

To elaborate, Trump basically repackages a blunt, old-school playbook as genius. Ask for something oversized, puff up your image, push hard, then give a little, switch up the cups so you look smart, and lean on the other side until they give ground. It is heavy on theatrics and anchoring high, light on nuance, and assumes you can strong-arm your way to a win while still convincing the other person they came out fine. It can work in one-off, ego-driven deals, but Iran just taught us all a lesson.

Yes but Trump's approval amongst US citizens is already exceedingly low too. And we can't do much about it without the help of congress which is now full of loyalists or politicians who will acquiesce without defiance. That installation of loyalists is what's keeping the administration in power now. And that wouldn't change under Vance.  Their attempts to f*** with the election this year is proof they know they won't remain in power when the people vote, after all they've done. They've already infiltrated and don't plan on leaving now. And it doesn't matter if people  like them or not.

So few people see what's going on. Trump has already laid the foundation that the president can do anything he wants. All of the oversight has been removed. The upper echelons of the military who had integrity have been culled. Regulatory bodies are being laid to waste. Anyone in government that stood up against Trump have been removed and replaced with yes men. Most of the big legal firms that would have stood up to the government have been neutered. News outlets are either being sued into oblivion or bought by far right followers...this has only been in a little over a year. By the time Vance takes over the oval office, this country's ability to resist POTUS will be mostly eliminate. The government is being set up for the benefit of the wealthy and Christian nationalists, which Thiel sits in both camps. Vance will be the paper president, Thiel will be in charge.

Nuking Iran just means everything in the middle east is toast too cause they\`re not going to nuke every single place in a 92 million habitant country at the same time and once a few millions are dead it\`s not Iran that will be the biggest problem for the US...

The US is the only one who agreed to ceasefire, because the administration couldn't justify escalation. They retreated and claimed victory, which was easy because Iran never was a threat to them.
