Half the parade was a pre filmed scripted "look how strong we are grrrrr!" video, then it was a bunch of soldiers, and the pretend fly over, again. Each year it gets smaller and smaller.

I wonder what the 2027 and 2028 editions will look like. Three soldiers, a truck and a crate of random weapons ?

2029 it’s just one Russian guy doing a bunch karate moves and then absolutely nailing a perfect cartwheel with thunderous applause playing from a loud speaker.

No. It is Stephen Seagal. And he doesn't land any of the moves.

You laugh but the only reason Russia hasn’t deployed Segal to the front (or behind enemy lines) is because, on some level, they still follow the Geneva convention and believe in general spirit of a “fair fight”. Segal destroys people without touching them and is immune to any attempt to harm him (\*only Russian propaganda videos authenticate this statement, use other video sources not recommended). He is a literal Sith Lord who is sitting on the sidelines eating Russian Doritos

And yet they do about a dozen laps of the parade area, getting costume changes each lap to try and appear like someone else.

Begged Zelenskyy for permission to hold the parade, then declared 'victory will be ours' — the logic is as empty as Red Square itself.

it is in line with party dogma. Defeat is victory or whatever shit.

Kind of makes me wonder what the world would be like if war was simply unprofitable. Maybe the militaries of the world will just largely disappear because nobody's willing to fund the peacock show.
5
extinct_cult May 9, 2026 +12
War is unprofitable, as a whole. But only for those footing the bill.
12
Nizz_Lord May 9, 2026 +2219
It’s unbelievably funny that he’s only saying it after Ukraine gave him permission to hold his parade
2219
Nuffsaid98 May 9, 2026 +228
Why did they give permission?
228
AnonymityIllusion May 9, 2026 +1055
Several reasons. Attacking the parade would not gain any military advantage that is worth the cost. It is also presumably heavily guarded, opening other more valuable targets (they made the statement just a day berfore). Attacking a parade celebrating the victory of the Sovjet union against the Nazis could look bad. By "giving permission" Zelensky is trolling the ruzzians and appearing honourable to the rest of the world. By tying the permission to the prisoner exchange, rethorically, Ukraine is painting the picture of ruzzia having to pay them to get permission, even if its not true. In short, the "permission" in combination with the pathetic parade is a huge propaganda win for Ukraine.
1055
mach0 May 9, 2026 +375
> By "giving permission" Zelensky is trolling the ruzzians and appearing honourable to the rest of the world. primarily this
375
VagrantShadow May 9, 2026 +121
There is a level of weakness shown of putin with Zelensky giving him permission to hold the parade. In away, Zelensky has an upper hand where it is like he is saying "You're holding this parade because I'm allowing you to hold it" without distinctly saying that.
121
Escape-artist-43 May 9, 2026 +35
Not playing into Putin’s “Ukrainians are Nazis” line of BS is pretty important too IMO.
35
samarnold030603 May 9, 2026 +18
The cease fire coordinates were literally just the four corners of red square. Hilarious 😂
18
Life_Ground6973 May 9, 2026 +66
To add to this, giving permission also makes Zelenskyy the current w*****. Someone winning a war dosent need to ask ‘permission’ of the loosing side to host a civilian event, especially a national holiday.
66
OptimisticSkeleton May 9, 2026 +19
People forget, Russia is European but also has Asian style face saving culture. Putin just lost face and while a lot of Americans don’t understand the gravity of that, it was a smart move by Zelensky.
19
Hautamaki May 9, 2026 +15
Well getting his face blown off by a drone strike would also cause him to lose face, tbf

GM_Nate May 9, 2026 +24
In non-Soviet Ukraine, Russians get trolled!
24
FuzzyMcBitty May 9, 2026 +6
Also, it allows people who only read headlines to see Putin holding a victory parade and associate it with a war that's ongoing. If they don't have any awareness of what Victory Day is, it looks stupid.
6
Motor-Dentist3410 May 9, 2026 +4
Prime reasons: 1) Usa asking 2) 1k to 1k captivated soldiers trade 3) I really don't see how it will benefit us, Ukrainians
4

The ceasefire deal contains prisoner swap of a 1000 prisoners from both russia and ukraine
60
odaal May 9, 2026 +53
sort of to troll russians more than anything. russians are fuming that Zelenskiy "let" the russians have their stupid parade, and theyre all pissed off at everything now since the wars directly touching upon the main disctricts of ruzzia
53
AnotherCuppaTea May 9, 2026 +88
Zelenskyy's statement specified the precise GPS coordinates of permitted parading (the four corners of Red Square, presumably not including the Kremlin complex), and the time (which he gave in "Kyiv time"). S-tier-level trolling from the Ukrainian govt., as usual.
88
Jops817 May 9, 2026 +23
Because it's a good look on the world stage to do so. I mean we're talking about it, and people in these comments are from all over. It's embarrassing to be told you're allowed to do something by your enemy.
23
aaaaaaaarrrrrgh May 9, 2026 +11
As I understand it, there was a (Trump-"mediated" aka likely forced) ceasefire agreement anyways. The "permission slip" was pure trolling to make Russia/Putin look weak.
11
Latter_Highway9539 May 9, 2026 +9
trump ended the Russian and Ukrainian war on his first day. it pains me to have to /s ay
9
xmsxms May 9, 2026 +3
Because it implies Russia needed to request permission and that Ukraine has the power to stop them.
3
Linclin May 10, 2026 +2
1000 for 1000 prisoner swap for a very limited area ceasefire. A 1:1 prisoner swap and they probably weren't going to bomb the parade area anyways. Whether or not the prisoners will be returned alive or even with their organ haven't being harvested, etc... is another matter. They will all have likely been starved/tortured.
2
No_Conversation_9325 May 9, 2026 +273

Hard to have a tank parade when your entire armored division is currently being sold for scrap metal on eBay.
131
zyiadem May 9, 2026 +39
I'll have you know that you can buy *engraved* tank scrap that is verified part of a tank on ebay.
39
Guy_GuyGuy May 9, 2026 +6
It's already sold or scrapped. Russia has had to buy T-34s multiple times from North Korea and other vassals with antiquated stockpiles because, strangely, the T-34s that Russia is supposed to have set aside specifically for WWII Victory parades keep disappearing.
6
clamorous_owle May 9, 2026 +262
Victory will be theirs without tanks? Even with tanks the 3-Day Special Operation has fallen way behind schedule. Putin will need a lot more North Korean cannon fodder than Kim can spare.
262
PatientInitial882 May 9, 2026 +59
Well,, that's back when they had tanks. And the cannon fodder doesn't really count when they can't even make it to the front line.
59
germanmojo May 9, 2026 +9
NK deployed troops to learn Russian tactics, while now watching those tactics fail miserably due to drone strategy evolution.

He’s gonna destroy the country to the ground…
102
shatikus May 9, 2026 +60
Strictly speaking he already did. The damage to demographics, economy and foreign relations is practically irreparable. The inertia is insane though. Imagine a country as a train - as long as the train is somewhat maintained and was solidly built, it could go on for a long time. The passengers might already be gone, the cargo is lost, driver went completely insane and the current route leads straight into the unfinished bridge. Still the train goes on and to an external observer it might even look fine - it would only look like something is wrong when the observer would see both the train and impending half finished bridge. But that would happen at the very end of the route. Being on the inside of the train I can tell you this much - shit's fucked all the way. This f****** one way wacky ride is going straight to hell with everyone onboard. Not the first time in russian history. Hopefully this time this godforsaken empire would finally shatter, would be de-nuclearised and we would have some sembla of normalcy
60
germanmojo May 9, 2026 +8
I envision it as a train with a bunch of currently standing bridges, each bridge being the effects of a policy decision in the future with an army of barely competent bridge repair crews working as fast as they can while some die off due to incompetence. An layman outside observer wouldn't see anything wrong just watching the train chug along. One of the bridges will collapse at some point, but it's hard to know exactly which one.
8
shatikus May 9, 2026 +7
That's a good analogy
7
germanmojo May 9, 2026 +6
I wouldn't have had it without you sparking it, just a small evolution of yours. Thank you for being my muse, sincerely.

frolfer757 May 9, 2026 +8
Russia will grant China their physical foothold in Europe and cemet their position as the world leader. They'll have direct power in Asia, Africa and Europe and a soft econonical stranglehold over the U.S. Would've happened either way but Russia bending over for China by f****** up in Ukraine and the U.S. population deciding to put their country into a nosedive to "own the libs" will certaibly accelerate it by decades.
8
Wozza44 May 9, 2026 +4
China is going to be the pre-eminent power for most of this century, people just haven't realised the inevitability of it yet
4
Beautiful_Might_1516 May 9, 2026 +97
It already is. Only war time economy and lies keep Russia floating just barely. When war stops Russia dives nose deep into diarrhea depression.
97
UAHeroyamSlava May 9, 2026 +41
China is playing a smart game. I foresee whole russia becoming present NK.
41
69kKarmadownthedrain May 9, 2026 +44
Chinese benefited from that war so, so much. Russia has basically painted itself into the corner of having to sell China all the resources at bargain prices to just stay afloat.

22
Mephzice May 9, 2026 +10
thing about wartime economy is that when it stops it hits like a truck and harder the longer it goes. Russia is going into the dark ages after this. Huge chunk of the future working population is gone either left Russia or died on the battlefield. It will also affect Ukraine, however I bet EU will fund a lot of rebuilding, do deals for loans and import companies and factories to Ukraine so I think they will be better off than Russia. People will come there for EU sponsored work from other countries. It's also more likely that Ukrainians that left will want to return to peacetime Ukraine than Russians that left will want to return to Russia from the country they have settled into.

A Cease fire just for their ‘safe face’ parade. I can’t believe Zelenski agreed to this.
134
JamsHammockFyoom May 9, 2026 +205
It was some top-tier shithousery from Zelensky to issue a decree allowing it, as if he was doing Putin a favour. You know that's got Putin furious 😂
205
Hal_Fenn May 9, 2026 +81
It's gotten Russians furious / embarrassed as well judging by the telegram posts lol.

97
StrikeMePurple May 9, 2026 +149
A YouTuber that covers the war spoke about it perfectly, Ukraine and the west care about it's people, unlike Russia, so when offered to exchange 1000 pow's for a ceasefire, Ukraine took it.
149
Kind_Singer_7744 May 9, 2026 +51
Wait Ukraine took a 1000 pows in return for not attacking the parade?
51
premature_eulogy May 9, 2026 +75
It was a prisoner exchange. They returned 1000 Russian PoWs to Russia and got 1000 Ukrainians back.
75
Piotrek9t May 9, 2026 +35
Those poor Russians /j
35
larsmaehlum May 9, 2026 +30
Being a well fed POW in Ukraine is probably better than being cannon fodder on the Russian front lines.
30
cheeeeezy May 9, 2026 +32
Pretty sure it was a prisoner-for-prisoner exchange, not a parade-for-prisoner exchange. As much as I wish the latter was true.
32
BasvanS May 9, 2026 +9
I think the going rate for Russian PoW’s is quite a bit lower than Ukrainians. Kinda /jk but also not really?
9
Doctor_Fritz May 9, 2026 +14
It was part of the ceasefire deal
14
Lord__Abaddon May 9, 2026 +17
I mean I imagine Ukraine cares more for the Russian commoner than Putin's regime does.
17
StryctNyne May 9, 2026 +53
Attacking the parade would only give Russia a huge piece of propaganda to milk sympathy from and try to rally a new wave of patriotism. The smartest move was to to exactly what Zelenski did. To seem merciful, but in control of the situation.
53
DoorStuckSickDuck May 9, 2026 +7
Russia would false flag it anyways
7
blazz_e May 9, 2026 +3
Well, if they screw that up we could actually arrive at a solution.
3

Nah, Russians don't care. Remember the apartment bombings?
3
memenmemen May 9, 2026 +7

7
dlebed May 9, 2026 +13
Shitty parade is not a big price for one thousand of Ukrainian PoWs that Russia has to release. As the Chief of Unmanned System Forces of Ukraine says: drones are not like yoghurt, they have no expiration date.
13
Diz7 May 9, 2026 +6
Nah, it makes Ukraine look good and Russia look pathetic. Basically mocking Russia by "allowing" this joke of a parade, makes Putin look weak to his people.
6
aNuggetsUncle May 9, 2026 +10
He didn't do that for Putin, this move was to gain a reprieve from fighting. Could be exhaustion or reconsolidation, either way it was a smart play.
10
foul_ol_ron May 9, 2026 +18
It also got 1000 POWs returned.

7
Zaku71 May 9, 2026 +11
How much does the average Russian believe the story of Ukraine's denazification or just war or whatever? I know that as long as citizens aren't personally affected, they're fine with everything Putin does, but how much do they believe his propaganda?
11
teial May 9, 2026 +27
There are lots and lots of people dissatisfied with Putin and with the war these days. Frankly speaking, I don't know anyone among my colleagues at work and my family members and friends who believe in his shit. Even my mom, who ardently supported Putin all this time hates him now. Then again, I live in Moscow, so I don't know what people think in the "outer" Russia. But as long as the military stays on Putin's side nothing will change, so its not like the opinion of an average Russian matters.

I think a great many got a feeling of: everybody hates us now, so might as well double down on the nationalism. Funnily enough that mostly seem to be young people living abroad. I know some Russians over here in Germany and some of them are impossible to talk to. I think it’s a self-defense mechanism.

Why is it that LITTLE MEN need a Big Parade to prove something? It's not like that has ever happened in America/S "Official attendance claims for the June 14, 2025, U.S. Army 250th Anniversary Parade in Washington, D.C., attended by Donald Trump on his 79th birthday, reached 250,000, although independent estimates and visual reports suggested a much lower turnout, with notable empty seats along the National Mall".

This wasn’t a parade, it was a rout

cleanuponaisle4 May 10, 2026 +2
The “special operation” that was to last two weeks is almost over 4 years later.

Russian history is pretty shit show after shit show. They had multiple cholera outbreaks in the 20th century because Moscow didn't have clean water and most Russians used to wear foot wraps because they were mediaeval peasants and didn't have socks.

doobiedave May 9, 2026 +18
Moscow grew to prominence in the region because they accepted the overlordship of the Golden Horde and helped put down all the other city-states. Kiev refused and got sacked. It's all gone full circle, Moscow is the little b**** to the real power to the East once again.

No tank you

MarkLambertMusic May 9, 2026 +2
Russia has always been a nation full of miserable peasants who've never won anything, no matter the on-paper outcome of any given conflict. Their permanent default state is that of "loser". Prosperity is a concept forever beyond them.

1
F-Cloud May 9, 2026 +1
Since there were no tanks, they could have had a few old men on tachankas ride by.

It is so sad that the russian public is so scared and brainwashed into submission that this dictator is allowed to live without consequence

"Victory will be ours one day, I feel it in my bones, I feel the winds changing..."

Its a drone war and Russia is getting destroyed. Their v d parade is minimal his appearance are minimal due to potential revolt and Ukraine possible targeting him. He wanted the ussr. The worst part is Trump attacked iran given them drones and us not being able to defend against drones
