Half the parade was a pre filmed scripted "look how strong we are grrrrr!" video, then it was a bunch of soldiers, and the pretend fly over, again. Each year it gets smaller and smaller.

You laugh but the only reason Russia hasn’t deployed Segal to the front (or behind enemy lines) is because, on some level, they still follow the Geneva convention and believe in general spirit of a “fair fight”. Segal destroys people without touching them and is immune to any attempt to harm him (\*only Russian propaganda videos authenticate this statement, use other video sources not recommended). He is a literal Sith Lord who is sitting on the sidelines eating Russian Doritos

Kind of makes me wonder what the world would be like if war was simply unprofitable. Maybe the militaries of the world will just largely disappear because nobody's willing to fund the peacock show.

It’s unbelievably funny that he’s only saying it after Ukraine gave him permission to hold his parade
2219
Nuffsaid98 4 days ago +228
Why did they give permission?
228
AnonymityIllusion 4 days ago +1055
Several reasons. Attacking the parade would not gain any military advantage that is worth the cost. It is also presumably heavily guarded, opening other more valuable targets (they made the statement just a day berfore). Attacking a parade celebrating the victory of the Sovjet union against the Nazis could look bad. By "giving permission" Zelensky is trolling the ruzzians and appearing honourable to the rest of the world. By tying the permission to the prisoner exchange, rethorically, Ukraine is painting the picture of ruzzia having to pay them to get permission, even if its not true. In short, the "permission" in combination with the pathetic parade is a huge propaganda win for Ukraine.

375
VagrantShadow 4 days ago +121
There is a level of weakness shown of putin with Zelensky giving him permission to hold the parade. In away, Zelensky has an upper hand where it is like he is saying "You're holding this parade because I'm allowing you to hold it" without distinctly saying that.
121
Escape-artist-43 4 days ago +35
Not playing into Putin’s “Ukrainians are Nazis” line of BS is pretty important too IMO.
35
samarnold030603 4 days ago +18
The cease fire coordinates were literally just the four corners of red square. Hilarious 😂
18
Life_Ground6973 4 days ago +66
To add to this, giving permission also makes Zelenskyy the current w*****. Someone winning a war dosent need to ask ‘permission’ of the loosing side to host a civilian event, especially a national holiday.
66
OptimisticSkeleton 4 days ago +19
People forget, Russia is European but also has Asian style face saving culture. Putin just lost face and while a lot of Americans don’t understand the gravity of that, it was a smart move by Zelensky.

sort of to troll russians more than anything. russians are fuming that Zelenskiy "let" the russians have their stupid parade, and theyre all pissed off at everything now since the wars directly touching upon the main disctricts of ruzzia
53
AnotherCuppaTea 4 days ago +88
Zelenskyy's statement specified the precise GPS coordinates of permitted parading (the four corners of Red Square, presumably not including the Kremlin complex), and the time (which he gave in "Kyiv time"). S-tier-level trolling from the Ukrainian govt., as usual.
88
Jops817 4 days ago +23

3

1000 for 1000 prisoner swap for a very limited area ceasefire. A 1:1 prisoner swap and they probably weren't going to bomb the parade area anyways. Whether or not the prisoners will be returned alive or even with their organ haven't being harvested, etc... is another matter. They will all have likely been starved/tortured.

I'll have you know that you can buy *engraved* tank scrap that is verified part of a tank on ebay.
39
Guy_GuyGuy 4 days ago +6
It's already sold or scrapped. Russia has had to buy T-34s multiple times from North Korea and other vassals with antiquated stockpiles because, strangely, the T-34s that Russia is supposed to have set aside specifically for WWII Victory parades keep disappearing.
6
clamorous_owle 4 days ago +262
Victory will be theirs without tanks? Even with tanks the 3-Day Special Operation has fallen way behind schedule. Putin will need a lot more North Korean cannon fodder than Kim can spare.

He’s gonna destroy the country to the ground…
102
shatikus 4 days ago +60
Strictly speaking he already did. The damage to demographics, economy and foreign relations is practically irreparable. The inertia is insane though. Imagine a country as a train - as long as the train is somewhat maintained and was solidly built, it could go on for a long time. The passengers might already be gone, the cargo is lost, driver went completely insane and the current route leads straight into the unfinished bridge. Still the train goes on and to an external observer it might even look fine - it would only look like something is wrong when the observer would see both the train and impending half finished bridge. But that would happen at the very end of the route. Being on the inside of the train I can tell you this much - shit's fucked all the way. This f****** one way wacky ride is going straight to hell with everyone onboard. Not the first time in russian history. Hopefully this time this godforsaken empire would finally shatter, would be de-nuclearised and we would have some sembla of normalcy
60
germanmojo 4 days ago +8
I envision it as a train with a bunch of currently standing bridges, each bridge being the effects of a policy decision in the future with an army of barely competent bridge repair crews working as fast as they can while some die off due to incompetence. An layman outside observer wouldn't see anything wrong just watching the train chug along. One of the bridges will collapse at some point, but it's hard to know exactly which one.
8
shatikus 4 days ago +7

Russia will grant China their physical foothold in Europe and cemet their position as the world leader. They'll have direct power in Asia, Africa and Europe and a soft econonical stranglehold over the U.S. Would've happened either way but Russia bending over for China by f****** up in Ukraine and the U.S. population deciding to put their country into a nosedive to "own the libs" will certaibly accelerate it by decades.

thing about wartime economy is that when it stops it hits like a truck and harder the longer it goes. Russia is going into the dark ages after this. Huge chunk of the future working population is gone either left Russia or died on the battlefield. It will also affect Ukraine, however I bet EU will fund a lot of rebuilding, do deals for loans and import companies and factories to Ukraine so I think they will be better off than Russia. People will come there for EU sponsored work from other countries. It's also more likely that Ukrainians that left will want to return to peacetime Ukraine than Russians that left will want to return to Russia from the country they have settled into.

Attacking the parade would only give Russia a huge piece of propaganda to milk sympathy from and try to rally a new wave of patriotism. The smartest move was to to exactly what Zelenski did. To seem merciful, but in control of the situation.

11
teial 4 days ago +27
There are lots and lots of people dissatisfied with Putin and with the war these days. Frankly speaking, I don't know anyone among my colleagues at work and my family members and friends who believe in his shit. Even my mom, who ardently supported Putin all this time hates him now. Then again, I live in Moscow, so I don't know what people think in the "outer" Russia. But as long as the military stays on Putin's side nothing will change, so its not like the opinion of an average Russian matters.

It is so sad that the russian public is so scared and brainwashed into submission that this dictator is allowed to live without consequence

Its a drone war and Russia is getting destroyed. Their v d parade is minimal his appearance are minimal due to potential revolt and Ukraine possible targeting him. He wanted the ussr. The worst part is Trump attacked iran given them drones and us not being able to defend against drones
