Willie being as old as he is makes it very different as well. I think having his kids there is as much about support for a full show as it is about him trying to give them a boost. Willie’s genre is also a lot different when it comes to sit-ins and guest appearances. It’s just generally a much more collaborative genre.

Thats exactly what is wrong with nepotism. These spots on tour would have been filled with local talent and other bands from around the country, but instead they're given to his kids, who don't really deserve to be there. I wonder how many amazing musicians, actors, artists in general we've missed out on because of this nonsense.

she’s doing herself a disservice honestly by skipping straight to opening at large venues as an opening act for her dad’s band. like she’s not establishing herself as an act, she’s just advertising herself as an extension of her father’s career which isn’t going to get her taken seriously. but those formative experiences of getting rejections, building a fanbase, attracting larger gigs/opportunities, etc. while figuring out who you are as an artist, your relationship to your craft, & what you’re trying to accomplish artistically. that usually takes time, and artist development is key to building a serious, successful career. not only does starting her out like this make the public less likely to ever take her seriously as an individual talent who stands on her own, but i highly doubt (even w/ a lifetime so far of $$ coaches, classes, etc.) that she’s truly at a place as a performing recording artist where she’s making anything interesting or important enough to attract the same size audience. plus it’s just sooo in your face, dripping with privilege which isn’t relatable or even likable to many

I'll never forget seeing The Rolling Stones many many moons ago. Midway through the band took a break and Keith got up and played maybe 4 or 5 solo songs. That stadium cleared out SO fast. Everyone all agreed they needed to get a drink, take a pee, or check out the merch table over listening to him. Not that Keith is a bad solo artist, but we were there for the Stones. Gotta give the people the thing they paid to see.

Read the entire message maybe? She's saying she literally can't avoid doors being opened for her because of who her parent is and that she's aware of that, and she's asking people to just hear her music and decide for themselves if she's deserving of it.
To me she is totally deserving because her new music is great. And Dave had no hand in it whatsoever. THUM is a banger.

It’s not just about the cost of recording. It’s radio play. You don’t think just anyone can get played on the radio, do you? There are millions of talented musicians that don’t have an in. She has an in. Idk why this is so shameful for people to admit. It is what it is.

Yeah, there’s also some millions of musicians out there who think they’re talented, but aren’t really that talented. So f****** what?
I always love the whining that comes from these nipple baby stories. You can just taste the bitterness from the failed artists sometimes.
No, it’s not because you don’t have connections. Perhaps it’s cause you just aren’t very good. I’m not saying the nepotism isn’t huge, but I’m not saying that these people can’t make a living without having some level of talent as well.
0

> I always love the whining that comes from these nipple (nepo?) baby stories. You can just taste the bitterness from failed artists sometimes.
Spoken like someone who has no idea how any creative scene or entertainment industry works.
Nepotism isn’t just huge, it’s everything in today’s world. Most great artists will take around 10 years of consistent output and continuous gigging to get their big break, if they’re lucky. If they’re very lucky, their music won’t be dated by that point and they won’t be too old to sell to a mainstream audience; which is a big factor, whether we like it or not.
I go out to local gigs in every town I’m in, multiple nights a week and see bands and artists who are deserving of a stage or radio play, but they don’t get it because they have to work 40+ hours a week, can’t afford PR, touring, music vids, studio time, don’t have any connections etc.
There are so many brilliant artists out there who don’t get a break, as the wealth gap continues to grow, banding them as ‘bitter failed artists’ is wildly ignorant and makes you look out of touch. Don’t confidently talk shit about people, when you’re not even close to being informed on the subject.

I work at a venue that James Hetfield's kid played at with his band. 20 people or so showed up, they were touring in a little van, etc.
It was pretty clear to me that even with the MASSIVE influence Hetfield has in the industry that his kid was 100% doing (that tour at least) on his own. Which is probably easier when you have that safety net, but still good for him for trying.
They were really nice dudes too.
3
Heroic_SheperdApr 11, 2026
+5
She’s not deserving though, she was born with a silver spoon in her mouth and should feel guilt about being the product of nepotism.
She’s contributing to an industry that’s impossibly difficult to break out of. Thousands of artists with insanely more talent than her will never get a shot at fame she doesn’t deserve.
5
SubtleTellApr 11, 2026
+3
What makes her deserving is whether her music is good or not. I couldn't care less where someone came from or who their parents are, that's not what makes me decide if their music is good or not. I have ears and can decide that for myself, just as she said.
If I heard the songs from her that I've currently heard and had no idea who she was, I would still have her music saved.

That’s fair! I guess I was reacting to the poster’s dismissive comment. “Good” is subjective.
ETA thinking more on it, *liking* an art piece is subjective, but an art piece may objectively be technically well done or poorly done. Like I could draw a cat and my kid will like it, but it will be poorly done. And I generally don’t like Jackson Pollack’s style, but I would never call his art “bad”.
Regardless, I hear you on the Grammys as a measurement - it was a bad example.

You can say that some music is objectively technical and difficult to write and reproduce, which doesnt apply to any music Dave has ever made, but you cant say music is objectively good, all art is, by definition, subjective.
