In 1989, an up-and-coming rock band from Washington called Nirvana played in Chicago for the first time at a club called Dreamerz.

There’s a dude in my town who’s been filming shows since the 80’s. I work at a night club and I just let him in for free at this point. Like he’s filmed so many of my favorite shows. He even has tapes of nirvana from their second night of their first tour.

I met a guy a few years ago who’s been doing the same thing, centered primarily on the Sacramento area.

Perusing this is going to be a blast. We're about the same age and have a lot of taste overlap. already listening to one of my favorite bands from back in the day, Game Theory.

It's funny how the AP is covering this considering bootlegging used to be treated as the downfall of civilization.

It’s illegal until you get away with it 10,000 times. 🙄

And that's only \~20% of it. Pretty wild. My questions are 1) Is this guy deaf from over 10k concerts? and 2) how are those boards and cinder blocks holding up all those records? vinyl is heavy!

Does Lars Ulrich know about this yet?!?

If you went to 1 concert every single day this would take almost 10 years. Crazy.

Please show how you worked this out

thesausboss 4 days ago +2
Yeah wait would it be much longer than 10 years if it's 10,000 concerts?

I was half asleep lol. I did the 365x3 ≈ 1000, —>x10<— ≈ 10,000 and went “≈10 is the answer”, instead of ≈30.

It would take 27 to 28 years.

I’m seeing about 2,400 shows in the link provided in several comments. What am I doing wrong, where are the rest of the 10,000?

I feel that this just encourages the assholes with their iPhones out for the whole gig, holding it up and blocking your view.

draculasbitch 4 days ago +6
Yes. Because bringing a cassette deck with directional microphones and setting up near the soundboard away from people to get clean sound is the same as someone in section 107 row 22 seat 9 holding up their phone while mugging for a selfie.
6
Empty_Estus 4 days ago +1
But it’s not mugging for a selfie is it, it’s people videoing the whole show and watching it through a viewfinder, at every single gig. It’s a nuisance. Is that what this guy did? No. But I suspect that it emboldens the people who do. Every single gig I go to, there’s always a phone or two annoyingly in the way. Just experience the gig. Nobody is going to watch your shitty iPhone footage. You’re there, enjoy the moment.
