Paul Rudd saying "Great Record" is one of the funniest pronunciations/impressions I have ever heard

Whenever I listen to or discuss a great album, I bust out that "Glate rlecorhhrd"

That thing he's doing with his mouth is killing me

Looks like Reilly almost corpsed, when it cuts back to him he has a finger up to his mouth and looks like he's supressing a laugh.

HE SAHNDS LIKE HES FRAM LAHNDAN!

Fun fact, Paul Rudd’s parents are both British. Like actually British (immigrated to New Jersey from London). Not quite as fun fact, his parents are also second cousins.
16
thelingeringlead Mar 24, 2026 +6
It's those little off hand lines that really make this movie sing.
6
WoodpeckerNo5724 Mar 24, 2026 +41
Oh my god, that’s Paul Rudd? I’ve never noticed before
41
davewashere Mar 24, 2026 +90
It's like Rudd is doing an impression of Dana Carvey doing an impression of John Lennon.
90
WoodpeckerNo5724 Mar 24, 2026 +15
That’s actually a great interpretation of it
15
ImWhatsInTheRedBox Mar 24, 2026 +19
So you're saying he's kinda like a dude playing a dude disguised as another dude?.
19

It's a role that he never could have........imagined.

this is my favorite line of the movie, it's so silly and meta in a silly and meta movie.

My favorite line in the scene. The constant over-explanation is just too good
90
Prof_J Mar 24, 2026 +18
Yeah “Here we are in sunny Spain” can be absolutely hilarious if delivered correctly, and this movie nails it
18
starkiller_bass Mar 24, 2026 +8
It paved the way for everything Netflix has produced.
8
PleasantThoughts Mar 24, 2026 +514
My mom was a big Monkees fan so as a kid I just assumed the Beatles and them were basically the same level of talent and success so that "you guys are almost as good as the Monkees" line always killed me
514
Anarimus Mar 24, 2026 +142
The actual Beatles may have laughed about that they and The Monkees would occasionally hang out at parties. They were friends with Jimi Hendrix. I remember reading that a few bands were actually very kind to The Monkees and felt they weren’t given the opportunity to just be themselves and really push for making their own music for a bit. They eventually got that opportunity. Head was pretty amazing.
142
backupbitches Mar 24, 2026 +46
Eventually nothing. Nesmith tracks appeared on their very first album and he and Tork played on those tracks for the recordings as well. The court of public opinion decided that history should mock them, but all four of them had musical backgrounds from the beginning. They were true contemporaries of The Beatles, who absolutely showed them respect and friendship at the time. Head is insane and you're absolutely right, it's amazing. Some of the tracks on that album hit me harder than anything the Beatles ever did!
46
SomeCountryFriedBS Mar 24, 2026 +5
I really enjoyed their show on Nick at Nite.
5
DrGlennWellnessMD Mar 24, 2026 +4
I caught a Monkees marathon on the Catchy Comedy channel a few months ago and ended up watching it all day.  All I could think was "this is the dumbest thing I've ever seen and I love it"
4
Next-Beat-2687 Mar 24, 2026 +8

I had a job back when burning CDs was a big thing and we had boombox and eventually a spindle with a stack of 30 or more. I insulted a slightly older co-worker and didn’t realize it until years later. He added two Monkees CDs and I went off on how funny that was, as to me, they were a joke band, not far from Milli Vanilli. But to him, they probably were not a joke at all.

Jack Black’s Paul McCartney is diabolically bad haha
654
mikeyfreshh Mar 24, 2026 +522
The fact that all 4 Beatles do completely different accents was my favorite part of this bit
522
Th3_Dark_Knight Mar 24, 2026 +278
They are from LiverpOooOOl.....
278
Arryu Mar 24, 2026 +53
Yes, liverhool
53
xdkarmadx Mar 24, 2026 +5
There’s a twitch clip of Ringo saying he’s from Liverpool and it’s honestly indistinguishable
5
Illithid_Substances Mar 24, 2026 +272
A new accent every time he speaks was a great creative choice
272
ContestAntique7179 Mar 24, 2026 +183
Justin Long said him and Paul Rudd were worried they wouldn't have good accents. Jack, on the other hand, was like "Nah, I got this down." Then showed up on set with that voice. They were both like "Wtf?"
183
LanceFree Mar 24, 2026 +57
I get the feeling that Justin Long really focused and practiced.

It somehow manages to be terrible in a different way every time he's on screen, too. It's spectacular.
120
WoodpeckerNo5724 Mar 24, 2026 +46
It weirdly makes it the single best Beatles impersonation scene of all time
46
thewalkingfred Mar 24, 2026 +66
Of course he is....he's the leader of the Beatles.
66
josemayo Mar 24, 2026 +17
The face he makes after delivering that line 😂😂😂
17
SPAKMITTEN Mar 24, 2026 +14
when he slips into bad Scots is painful "we're big fans a your records too" as spoken by a poor mans shrek
14
vanillasounds Mar 24, 2026 +33
Feel like he arrived 15min after start time and was reading cue cards
33
__Shake__ Mar 24, 2026 +15
sounds like he lapses into downright scottish there for a bit lol
15
Shamanyouranus Mar 24, 2026 +5
How dare you say that about the Leader of the Beatles.
5
justageekgirl Mar 24, 2026 +146
Justin Long's George Harrison is bang on good.
146
scriptchewer Mar 24, 2026 +41
For me, his line about just trying to get more songs on the album is the best bit.
41
thisisredlitre Mar 24, 2026 +14
"Shut up, George! Nobody like you."
14
BoxOfNothing Mar 24, 2026 +634
A rare great scene that would have been worse if they were better at the accent. I have no f****** idea what Jack Black in particular is even trying to do, but it wouldn't have been half as good if he did a decent accent. Jack White as Elvis was also so funny
634
Tain95 Mar 24, 2026 +228
I mean, Justin Long seems to pretty much nailing George Harrison here, which is additionally make this scene much funnier in a contrast with Jack Black and Paul Rudd
228
chadsomething Mar 24, 2026 +91
I’m pretty sure he came out and said that he worked really hard on the accent was really thrown off when they shot the scene because everyone else’s accent was so off and comical.
91
Kanavster Mar 24, 2026 +41
this makes this scene even funnier for me
41
BoxOfNothing Mar 24, 2026 +37
For the most part yeah he's not bad, some full sentences are spot on
37
ReeferPirate420 Mar 24, 2026 +38
How can Justin Long be George if Paul is the walrus?

66
BoxOfNothing Mar 24, 2026 +25
Yeah and almost none of them are real, but it's all great
25

154
Blursed_Hearse12 Mar 24, 2026 +47
You know there has to be a few hours of pure uncut footage recorded of these guys just riffing as the Beatles, and what we got in the movie was probably 2% of it. I wanna see ALL of it, man!
47
Conradfr Mar 24, 2026 +7
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6frgnqTo1eM It's cool but in a way it shows that in comedy a tight edit is also great and not so easy as you have to remove good parts.
7
legalstep Mar 24, 2026 +31
That backstage karate insanity was brilliant
31
ThreePumpChamp Mar 24, 2026 +24
I think Paul Rudd's "Great record" was the best part of the whole thing. Playing heavily into the horrible accents lol.

It's funny as hell and it killed musical biopics for over a decade. We need another one to remind people that biopics are formulaic trash. We're lousy with them again. We need 2 Hard 2 Walk immediately.

By 2007 it seemed like the "genre parody" genre had pretty much died out. I loved the first couple Scary Movies (2000, 2001) and Not Another Teen Movie (2001) but then you ended up getting slop like Epic Movie (2007), Disaster Movie (2008), and Meet the Spartans (2008). Walk Hard was an awesome reminder that genre parodies, when done right, can be timeless
17

We used to smoke in my friend’s closet and his girlfriend had just started smoking and so several times when she came in the room to smoke with us we would do the whole routine and also we’d do it to other more casual acquaintances the first time they’d smoke with us. It always got a laugh. First time I ever smoked someone did it to me as well and then we watched City of God and it was the best piece of art I’ve ever seen. Fun times.
21
thewalkingfred Mar 24, 2026 +7
This movie turns all my bad feelings into good feelings.
7
Wadep00l Mar 24, 2026 +50
The whole movie justifies itself start to finish. One of my favourite comedies, even saw it in theaters.
50
whatsforsupa Mar 24, 2026 +21
I'd say this film is a dark horse for the best comedy of the entire 2000's. I'd put it right there with Superbad or Stepbrothers. It's just insanely quotable and you can tell that the movie spawned from a handful of ideas and the writers room just went ballistic with them.
21
thelingeringlead Mar 24, 2026 +10
You should listen to Reilly talk about how they made it. They literally came to him with a pitch, asking him to star. By the time they had a script written they'd already formed a band and written a ton of songs to write the plot around.
10
dollywobbles Mar 24, 2026 +16
I was playing the soundtrack on Spotify the other day while I was making dinner and it's honestly great!
16
Marvelerful Mar 24, 2026 +14
The finale song "Beautiful Ride" is a genuinely amazing song that has great emotional depth while still being charmingly silly as the rest of the film. I've gone back to listen to it many times over the years
14
AllDayIDreamOfCats Mar 24, 2026 +8
The Black Sheep song where they are doing the Brian Wilson Beach Boys parody was written by Van Dykes Park who wrote most of the Lyrics for the Beach Boys Smile album. Also after the Movie came out John C Reilly toured and played the songs from the movie for a little bit.
8
FreezersAndWeezers Mar 24, 2026 +6
Let Me Hold You (Little Man) is unironically a really good and semi-Dylan accurate song. It gets a good laugh every time I throw it on
6
SomeMoistHousing Mar 24, 2026 +5
I think Spotify has both the 15-song soundtrack and the 30-song deluxe edition. The expanded tracklist has some really great stuff that's missing from the shorter version.

The entire Extended Cut (30 minutes more than the theatrical, 2 full hours of Cox!) is uploaded on Youtube. Worth a watch for any fans; it's really hard to find the extended on streaming. It's called "American Cox - The Unbearably Long Self Indulging Director's Cut". The theatrical release has better pacing and I'd recommend starting with that if you haven't seen it, but American Cox has several jokes that were cut that are pretty hilarious, and it's got a bit more of the music. There's allegedly a Dewey of Arabia cut that's 3 hours long, but I don't think that's ever been released.

Now, you run on down to the country store and get us some butter. And a candle. We're gonna light us a candle tonight.

This scene (well, movie, really) has lived rent-free in my head ever since the movie came out. It's actually tried moving out several times, but I force it back in there. Gleat Lecorrd.

So you’re saying this scene has never paid rent? Not once?

funkhero Mar 24, 2026 +7
Not *once*. At least it's not habit forming.

We found this movie one night during a movie madness day. It was so funny we couldn't handle it. This film deserves an award or two. Script, acting and filming is all 10/10 like Pineapple Express

Seth Rogen was saying, that Jonah Hill couldn't believe how much easier dramatic acting is, than doing *good* comedy. Basically never won an Oscar, as a genre. You can throw a frisbee and find a good drama, but good comedies are few and far between.

Used to be the other way around. Comedy movies haven’t been made since the early 10s. While that’s a blanket statement, that run of the mid 00s to early 10s was great.

“Doctor, we need more blankets and less blankets!” My favorite movie of that era; with step brothers being a close second.

This scene alone is why I will not be able to take the four upcoming Beatles biopics seriously. They will pale in comparison.

Getting 3 awesome comedians and Jason Swartzman to do a cameo as the Beatles makes this the best scene of the whole movie

Goddard is right. This movie doesn't even have a 7 on imdb. By comedy standards it's at least an 8 or 7.5. comedies almost never get funnier than this
