We are having absolutely amazing couple of months of tv first time in awhile and I am all for it

Posted by Batters123

I mean the Pitt was fantastic, Invincible also fantastic, amazing revival of scrubs, great season of shrinking. Haven't even had time to watch the boys and Daredevil yet, but I am sure they will live up to expectations. All I wanna say is keep em coming, I am have a blast. Edit: gonna add a list of tv shows recommended in comments in a bit, so people who are looking for something to watch can see it. Edit 2: Some of the shows mentioned in comments; Hacks, Beef, From, Paradise, A Knight Of Seven Kingdoms, The testaments, The comeback, Margo’s got money troubles, Taskmaster, Stumble, Malcom in the middle (reboot), Euphoria, Jury duty presents: Company retreat, The bait.

Jury Duty presents: Company Retreat was really good too, funny and wholesome.

Great to see this, i enjoyed Jury Duty so much, but had a lot of apprehension around Company Retreat because the idea of capturing lightening in a bottle twice is incredibly rare and there were so many factors aligning that made Jury Duty so good.

It’s better than the fist season I think.

I agree.

Company Retreat is genuinely important and vital media representation and I can't overstate how much it matters for interracial healing right now in America. This is exactly the kind of real life storytelling we need more of right now and I just can't say enough positive things about it.

My favorite new show. Make sure to watch the separate series with both heroes of each season meeting up and an interview with James Marsdon with the second season cast.

mdavis360 5 days ago +4
We just finished it yesterday and it was fantastic.

Disagree with this one, I liked at first but after a few episodes it was hard to suspend disbelief that this guy ultimately doesn't know what's going on. There's an entire documentary crew following everyone around with giant cameras and everyone is a character, like straight off tv and this guy ends up playing along like you might expect. I dunno, it was obvious he's realized what's going on at some level and he's just having fun with it. It's not anything like the first season

The cast of improv actors were really good. Felt like a real sitcom.
1
Skyyy_Money 5 days ago +2
It looked all written. I don't think it was improv.
2
relder17 5 days ago +3
The guest speakers were improv. They make that explicit in the last episode.

That actors in Margot’s Got Money Troubles are incredible. I’ve become such a fan of Elle Fanning over the years. Michell Pfeiffer is phenomenal in that role too.
3
ImmortalMoron3 5 days ago +2
Nick Offerman was the standout to me in the third episode, I'm looking forward to what he does with this role. Between this, Last of Us and Civil War he's really been flexing his dramatic muscle lately.
2
Be_The_Packet 5 days ago +1
They’re all great, but yeah Nick Offerman in episode 3 almost completely changed how I was seeing the show in one scene.

There are two shows airing about superheroes at the same time about a virus thay can wipe out the main opposition and are produced by Seth Rogen.
66
tagen 6 days ago +43
Seth Rogen really gets around, he produces an impressive amount of good tv, most people probably know him as the stoner actor with the funny laugh, but dude is an amazing writer/producer
43
mileseverett 6 days ago +29
The Studio is also a very fun watch

I mean, Catherine O’Hara’s character needs to be written out somehow…
3
falterpiece 6 days ago +5
He’s also making and starring in Platonic which isn’t as flashy as Studio, but is incredible thanks largely to the comedic chemistry between him and Rose Byrne. The busiest dude in Hollywood

Had no idea a new season was out! F*** yea.
5
finestthereis 6 days ago -4
Finally a successor to Lost. Took them long enough. Absolutely love what they did this season.
-4
Westeros 6 days ago +12
I feel like it’s not the most popular opinion but i realllyyy want them to lean into a heavier sci fi angle so it doesn’t just end up being another Silo / end of the world cliche
12
finestthereis 6 days ago
Let’s see what they do in S3. I’m just waiting for someone to say that they need to go back to the Island.
0
dank-kush 6 days ago +7
I enjoyed lost but I thought paradise was just ok tbh. Admittedly I’ve only seen season 1 and season 2 might be better but I thought From was more comparable to lost, definitely not as good but it scratched the itch of what’s behind this town just like I was wondering what was behind the mysteries of the island.
7
Westeros 6 days ago
The acting & production is better in Paradise, and that is more a reflection on From than Paradise lol, but I do enjoy both!
0
finestthereis 6 days ago -4
I mean come back when you actually see s2. Until then it seems pointless for you to have an opinion on that show as things escalate fairly substantially in s2
-4
SmegmaWarrior0815 6 days ago +7
Not comparable to Lost. It feels like Paradise already told most of its mysteries while Lost always had new ones constantly. Also Lost had many more episodes to spin a web of intrigue. Shows these days can't do that in 10 episode seasons.
7
finestthereis 6 days ago -5
Absolutely disagree. My entire body and sensory system went into Lost mode after that s2 finale. Completely similar vibes.
-5
axlee 6 days ago +4
Paradise isn’t really a mystery box show, the narrative techniques aren’t there. Modern lost-style shows are shows like From or Yellowjackets
4
dank-kush 6 days ago +2
Yellowjackets is another good shout, similarly like I said with From it’s definitely not as good lost but it feels similar in terms of style.
2
Illuvatar08 6 days ago +2
How is it even remotely similar to lost
2
FUNKYOSELF 6 days ago +19

Any strong first-season shows that have come out recently? This stuff seems to be second season onwards.
22
Batters123 6 days ago +44
Only one I can think of is A Knight of seven kingdoms, but it’s kinda GoT prequel, tho you could totally watch it on its own and it would still be amazing
44
ChucksnTaylor 6 days ago +20
It’s less a prequel and more just a story set in the same universe. Really don’t need to know anything about Game of Thrones to watch it.
20
OHHHHHHHHHH_HES_HURT 5 days ago +3
Yeah but if you do know things about GoT it makes it even better
3
randomCAguy 5 days ago +1
I have watched this one already and it was awesome I’ve also watched Chair Company which I felt had a fantastic start then declined a bit over the season.
1
itsthe_implication_ 5 days ago +1
This is easily my favorite first season of a show in a very long time. It's also not as dour and depressing as GoT can be. Highly recommended.

DTF St Louis. Amazing show. It had literal jaw dropping moments, literal laugh-out-loud moments, full of bathos and pathos. Unpredictable. Amazing performances from everyone. Don't read too much about it, just dive in.

Yes. I thought, based off the marketing I saw, I knew what I was in for. Then, the first episode isn’t even done, and I’m like wait a sec lmao what’s going on? Very good show.

Something Bad Is About To Happen was a great watch The Bait is quite stressful and fun Beef S2 just dropped, it's an anthology so you can watch the S2 right away DTF St. Louis is a very surprising and touching show  Margo Got Money Trouble looks fun too  I have no idea where The Audacity is going but it seems promising  Ted S2 dropped, for me it's the best comedy series of the year so far. It's kinda like other MacFarlane's sitcoms but live action instead of animation

***maul***, but that's canon in *star wars*. so far it's really pushing the "shadow lord" title (really well). I've actually been enjoying ***testaments*** also. ***best medicine*** on fox/hulu has been a pleasant surprise. *Yellowstone* fans hate it, but ***marshals*** has been fun (cbs/paramount). ***memory of a killer*** has me intrigued (fox/hulu)

Malcom in the middle reboot as well. I was originally sad it was only four episodes, but then what they pulled off in that four episode arc was amazing.
25
IrrelevantPuppy 5 days ago +2
One of the times spoiling myself might have been a good idea. I burned through the 4 episodes in ignorant bliss and when I got to the end I thought “I wonder how long it’ll be till they release the next episode in this season”  It took me two days to realize that not only will there not be more episodes this season, that this was it for the entire reboot.  But like you I can see it as an excellent wrap up that’s also not a “and they all lived happily ever after” cop out.

*Watched:* Loved The Pitt S2, though it did leave a couple of things to be desired for me. Shrinking S3 was mediocre. *Watching/upcoming:* Hacks' last season is off to a damn good start and I'm excited. It seems like they've got a true-blue w***** of a season, based on the reviews. I'll also check out Margot's Got Money Troubles (cuz I like Elle) and Beef S2 (cuz S1 was awesome) later on.

DTF St Louis is by far the best show this year for me, most new seasons are/were meh (Shrinking, The Boys, Daredevil are all becoming parodies of themselves), Scrubs and animes (including Invincible) being the exception ! Rooster started pretty average too but it's winning me bit by bit, not on par yet with other Bill Lawrence shows but could get there

I mean the last year feels like TV has finally bounced back from a COVID-esque malaise and it's largely due to a lot of great stuff from a lot of creative players - in the last 12 months we've had/have: The Pitt Born to Bowl Taskmaster S20/21 Game Changer S7/S8 The Chair Company Severance S2 Apple Cider Vinegar Common Side Effects Devil in Disguise Adolescence Guy Montgomery’s Guy Mont Spelling Bee Say Nothing Abbott Elementary S5 Andor Season 2 The finale of Smiling Friends Pluribus And of course, The Rehearsal Season 2 - the best season of television in the post-COVID era. Even if you just watched one of these seasons a month, you'd have plenty still ready to look forward to.

HBO… a boomer Joan Rivers type Vegas based comedian trying to revive her career is paired with a Gen-Z LA writer desperate to come back after burning too many bridges. Tons of sarcastic wit between them as they go back and forth from enemies to friends. Just started season 5.
4
Counciltuckian 6 days ago +1
S01 just seemed ok to me.  Does it ramp up? I am always surprised to see it on lists like this.
1
ApatheticAbsurdist 6 days ago +2
You get more invested in the relationship between Debora and Ava... and it is a comedy at heart focused on the relationship between the characters. It's not going to have the existential stakes of something like Breaking Bad, Severance, etc. But if you like things like Shrinking it might be worth a deeper dive. But not everyone likes the same thing.
2
fucuasshole2 6 days ago
Probably downvotes: I enjoyed Fallout season 1. Wasn’t thrilled with retcons and Amazon bombing California just to rid NCR. BUT I thought if it as a decent foundation for a great series. Yea….season 2 was pretty awful. More retcons, terrible pacing, CGI was awful at times, Culkin was definitely miscasted, and too much “Marvel” quips from everyone just kills the dialogue.
