They really want to end it with Wrexham in the Prem I guess

lookitsjustin Apr 10, 2026 +179
It probably won't end even when they are in the Prem

Werthead Apr 10, 2026 +188
Series finale is Wrexham winning the intergalactic football cup against Altair III.
188
Casting_Aspersions Apr 10, 2026 +28
Altair III doesn't ave enough quality in midfield, and that lack of control will cost them when it matters most.
28
NahdiraZidea Apr 10, 2026 +18
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
18
-Internet-Elder- Apr 10, 2026 +15
the thing about Altair III is they always try to teleport it in

dejour Apr 11, 2026 +6
It’s not realistic, but if it was plotted they’d probably have a first season in the Premier League, a first season in Europa, a first season in the Champions league, a Premier League victory, a Champions League victory, then maybe a Club World Cup victory
6
Talidel Apr 11, 2026 +2
Champions League journey starts then.
2
KirbyGlover Apr 10, 2026 +51
Tbh given the lifespan of Always Sunny, I'm betting Rob wants to take it all the way through to the Champion's League if he can
51
smilysmilysmooch Apr 10, 2026 +33
He's a huge sports fan so he definitely understands win or lose that there is always a story.
33
Hoshbrowns Apr 10, 2026 +18
When Rob, Charlie, and Glenn still did the Sunny podcast they talked about Rob's work ethic and how instrumental he is to the shows success behind the scenes. Rob admitted himself that he felt like the least talented actor of the bunch but without him there is no Sunny. I absolutely love Mac and think his character is hilarious. I don't find him any less funny than the rest of the cast, but I could see how he might be difficult to cast in other shows and roles. Sunny is also my favorite show it just took me a little bit to understand that the characters are terrible people as a way to highlight current events in the world. Especially the Gun Fever 2 episode because it showed both extreme sides of the gun debate
18
ptjp27 Apr 10, 2026 +15
He’s definitely the worst actor of the main bunch but he’s still funny as f*** so it’s fine
15
Werthead Apr 12, 2026 +2
I remember him showing up in the third season of **Lost** because Lindelof was a big fan of **Always Sunny** (which *immediately* makes you realise how bloody long the show has been on for) and it's clear acting-wise he was not on a par with anyone else, but that was okay because it was basically a cameo. That said, I think he showed more chops on the much more recent **Mythic Quest**. He does some scenes with F. Murray Abraham and holds his own okay. So he's gotten a lot better.

Wrexham aren't getting to the Champions League.
0
KirbyGlover Apr 10, 2026 +4
Never said they ever would, but Rob would probably enjoy it if they did is all I'm saying
4
Thor_pool Apr 10, 2026 -7
They arent getting to the Premiere League either lol
-7
Grenache Apr 10, 2026 +4
I mean, they might? I thought they'd get done over in L1 to be honest and here they are in the playoffs in the champ. But getting to the Champions League though...
4
darthjoey91 Apr 10, 2026 +7
Well, Season 5 is not getting them there. Season 6's content starts in the fall. Maybe they can make it there.
7
APCookie Apr 10, 2026 +2
with 3 seasons we can watch them get to prem and back to sunday league 😂

Does it have good ratings (I guess we never know with streamers) or is it dirt c**** to produce? I mean a 3 seasons renewal is kinda rare no?
344
generally_unsuitable Apr 10, 2026 +140
It's kinda symbiotic. The show helps the team. The team helps the show.
140
wheelsno3 Apr 10, 2026 +53
This is the reality. In the modern world, players can make a ton of money on social media simply by being famous. So playing for a team that has an internationally broadcast tv show is pretty nice. And the team likes the publicity and the revenue, and the fact that it makes players more likely to want to play for them (at least when they were at lower levels. If by some miracle they make the playoffs and earn a spot in the Premier League, who knows what will happen).
53
NCC75567 Apr 10, 2026 +46
Wrexham has moved up 3 levels to Championship since Rob and Ryan took over. Maybe this is more normal than I realize, but as an American and nominal EPL fan, that's just astounding to me. If they can hit the Premier League at some point? Just insane. For reference it looks like they bought team for £2 million, and it's now worth £350m. If they can get up into Premier League, they get another £100m+ (over several years) on top of the obvious money and exposure that comes from it. So yeah, the cost of the documentary is the equivalent of loose change vs what they've gotten out of their investment lol.
46
kenazo Apr 10, 2026 +35
Feel kind of bad for those grinders that were playing in the first season just for the team to pass them by.
35
ptjp27 Apr 10, 2026 +32
Professional sport has always been ruthless
32
MLang92 Apr 11, 2026 +11
That's their level though, they would have been kept if they were good enough. Which has happened, Leon Britton played for Swansea in League 2, League 1, The Championship and the Premier League Plus if the opposite had happened and Wrexham had gone down 3 divisions in a short amount of time then a significant amount of the players would have gradually left to stick around the level they were used to playing at We like to romanticise football in the UK, but the truth is there's rarely any loyalty between the clubs and the players, only from the fans to the clubs
11
bob-theknob Apr 11, 2026 +1
There shouldn’t be loyalty between players and clubs. It’s their livelihood and it’s a business after all.
1
qchisq Apr 11, 2026 +1
I mean, Paul Mullin as an example, got the top scorer in League 2 the year before he went to Wrexham. He got 32 goals in 46 games. In 2024-25, he got 3 goals in 26 games in League One. It's not like they have the level for Championship football
1
penguinopph Apr 11, 2026 +11
> Maybe this is more normal than I realize, but as an American and nominal EPL fan, that's just astounding to me. It's absolutely astounding. Three consecutive promotions had never happened in English professional foootball before Wrexham did it. It's happened 10 times before in English football, but all of the previous ones were within the amateur/semi-pro levels.
11
RaNdomMSPPro Apr 11, 2026
I tuned out of the show after the second season. Watched an efl matxh and was surprised the same coach is still in charge.
0
Werthead Apr 12, 2026 +2
The coach has a good track record for what he was needed to do, coming in and kicking an underperforming team up the backside and getting them promoted. He somehow got *Colchester* promoted to the Championship (wisely bailing as he realised that was the ceiling for that team) which is extraordinary. He got Wrexham promoted three times in five seasons which is impressive (with an outside chance of a fourth). He is a bit of a meat and potatoes manager and they'd need more in the Premiership (and he's never managed a Prem team before), but their first Championship campaign has been reasonable. I suspect if they get stuck in the Championship for several seasons, they'll start looking to replace him with a higher-profile manager, but their financial resources will start straining at that point, and the really high-profile managers might hesitate at having their behind-the-scenes discussions and laundry shown in such detail, whilst Phil DNGAF.
2
Senators_1992 Apr 10, 2026 +11
It’s definitely impressive but, to be fair, they’ve outspent other teams by a wide margin to get to this point (I think they’ve actually been working at a loss these past few years due to their huge wage bill, although I could be wrong). They’ve basically been spending like the Dodgers to try and get to the Premier League, although if they do manage to pull it off, that’s when they’ll start seeing a huge windfall thanks to tv revenue.
11
generally_unsuitable Apr 10, 2026 +21
You should see how much the premier league spends to be in the premier league. Man City's payroll is 236 million gbp. Right now, Wrexham's payroll is dead center of the championship league at about 18 million/yr. Meanwhile, they're competing with Leicester, who are spending almost 43 million/yr.
21
Senators_1992 Apr 11, 2026 +9
Leicester’s wage bill shouldn’t come as that much of a surprise though as most relegated clubs use those parachute payments to try and win promotion immediately the following year. The fact that they’re in the relegation zone right now though, oof…
9
NCC75567 Apr 10, 2026 +19
I don't know how you move up that way without spending that kind of money, so it doesn't really take anything away from it IMO. Especially since the owners are two actors and not, like, an oil billionaire Saudi prince. The Dodgers are spending absurd money to compete *at the highest level* already. Wrexham would be more like, the Albuquerque Isotopes moving up into MLB and competing. I only watched the first couple seasons of Wrexham so I don't know what their plan is, but I'll be curious to see if they "sell high" in the next couple years, or if it's something they plan to be involved with for 5, 10, 20 more years.
19
Werthead Apr 12, 2026 +1
Yes, the narrative in Season 1 was "extremely rich Ryan Reynolds coming into a very low football team in Wales and then pooing himself at how expensive everything is." His reaction at hearing it would cost half a million just to relay the turf after it's damaged is priceless. People analysing the situation and Ryan's track record suggest that it only makes sense to sell when/if they reach the Premiership, because at that point the club's worth rockets beyond what it is already. The show being renewed for three seasons might mean he is thinking about selling then, or maybe that's not related and the show can go on with new owners. Rob, at least, has indicated he wants to be involved in the team for life.
1
dunno260 Apr 11, 2026 +12
They have outspent other teams but teams screw up spending loads of money ALL the time in every sport. Wrexham right now have the 12th highest payroll in their league and are in 7th place out of 24 teams. The team with the highest payroll (over twice Wrexham's spending) is Leicester City and they are 22nd place. The team with the second highest payroll is Sheffield United (payroll is like 80% higher) and they are in 17th place. Its really remarkable because the club is owned by two guys who knew little about the sport before hand and purchased a team that wasn't in good shape either, and then had appointed a comedy writer/actor as Executive Director of the club. People act like the result Wrexham has had is like inevitable but really the far likelier result is that this should have been incredibly unsuccessful.
12
ptjp27 Apr 10, 2026 -4
I gotta be honest, any sport without a salary cap is a joke sport.
-4
rcanhestro Apr 11, 2026 +3
i would agree, but i would rather the money go to players instead of team owners.
3
platebandit Apr 11, 2026 +2
How does that work with promotion and relegation then. Absolutely destroy your team the second you go down and have to totally rebuild your squad the second you get promoted? Would just entrench the premier league
2
victims_sanction Apr 11, 2026 +2
Pretty sure it was the first ever triple promotion. Its pretty uncommon to climb this fast outside a football manager save. In particular its surprising just how well they've aged this year in the championship. That's a big step up with teams falling from the prem and getting 50m+ parachute payments. Thought theyd be fighting for their lives there not top 10.
2
RaNdomMSPPro Apr 11, 2026 +1
That’s not normal progress in English football. The show and revenue helped them a ton vs. peers the way financial rules work.
1
anonymousetache Apr 11, 2026 +2
Not following the show at all but I feel like they’re more likely to get more seasons of it’s always sunny with this deal too.

Also great marketing for their team so I'm guessing the stars salary are v small.
38
smilysmilysmooch Apr 10, 2026 +14
Maybe. Maybe not. The thing the show does is give them access to talent that wouldn't have touched Wrexham with a ten foot pole because of location. It gives players prestige, access to celebrities and opportunity to showcase their skills.
14
loyal_achades Apr 10, 2026 +41
The club doesn’t even directly receive money from the doc, iirc. It’s still been clearly worth it as marketing, but yeah this shit is crazy c**** to produce.
41
evilpenguin9000 Apr 10, 2026 +9
It also makes it much easier to get sponsers to spend big bucks with the additional exposure. Having Hollywood stars as owners also helps with that.
9
sasquatch0_0 Apr 10, 2026 +3
It's both. They already have 4 seasons so to approve 3 more means people are watching.
3
Internal_Wheel_89 Apr 10, 2026 +6
I dunno, I know a few normies who like this show.
6
sublliminali Apr 10, 2026 +20
I doubt they have to pay wrexham much if anything for the access. It’s such good PR, plus they fit in sponsor segments that I’m sure Ryan and Mac are falling over themselves to keep it going rather than asking for a bigger check.
20
wheelsno3 Apr 10, 2026 +12
Imagine the merch sales! I've seen Wrexham gear on people in the US. I'm sure just having the show exist makes them so much more money than the network could pay them.
12
LiveJournal Apr 10, 2026 +3
There is Wrexham branded beer on sale at the local grocery store near me in SE Texas, so its definitely helped the brand
3
Cwlcymro Apr 10, 2026 +16
Wrexham don't get a fee at all from the documentary, but it's popular enough that it's worth millions upon millions in promotion for them.
16
BirdmanTheThird Apr 10, 2026 +36
A mix of both. I feel like plenty of people enjoy it and i imagine it doesn’t take much to do this, they are mostly interviewing people who aren’t exactly demanding a huge appearance fee if any.
36
scottyg561 Apr 10, 2026 +18
Probably a bit of both, also probably some nifty accounting going on where they are using it as PR/advertising for the club and getting some tax breaks
18
-TheExtraMile- Apr 10, 2026 +5
It is truly one of the best reality TV shows I have ever seen. A lot of heart and respect for the community.
5
Werthead Apr 11, 2026 +3
They also have an advantage in that in the Championship they're underdogs again, their spending power is really low whilst in the lower divisions they could use their financial firepower to overwhelm the opposition (and even that didn't work in the first season), so that element they perhaps lost after the first couple of seasons should be coming back into play again.
3
LoveAndViscera Apr 11, 2026 +3
Football is the most popular sport in the world. Name one other TV show that goes so deeply behind the scenes of a club that simultaneously plays a very good game and maintains its underdog status. I have no numbers to back this up, but it’s as perfect a sports reality show as you could ask for.
3
NewLibraryGuy Apr 10, 2026 +4
Aside from being dirt c**** to produce, it's also excellent advertising for things like Reynolds' companies.
4
pushaper Apr 10, 2026 +2
c**** to produce and it is a branding opportunity rather than tv show first a little like million dollar real estate type shows.
2
BenderBenRodriguez Apr 11, 2026 +2
C**** to make and also keeps the stars happy. They want to be in business with Ryan Reynolds and they definitely want to keep Rob happy so Sunny seasons keep coming.
2
rcanhestro Apr 11, 2026 +2
the show should be c**** to produce, the show is basically an ad for the team to get sponsors, so i doubt the team is demanding a lot of money from Disney. odds are both Rob and Reynolds are being paid only as producers, not as "cast", same with all the players. odds are the only money they see from the show is some sort of image rights.
2
Werthead Apr 11, 2026 +1
IIRC, they were getting complaints about reality "spoiling" each season with a long(ish) gap between the end of the season and the show airing, sometimes 3-4 months, so they want to get each season out as close to the actual football season as possible, and waiting for a renewal causes them issues with getting into production ASAP after the last one. They got the last season out early but only at the cost of doing less episodes. In theory this should help them get a decent number of episodes out at the appropriate time.
1
MajorFuckingDick Apr 11, 2026 +1
Every single part of the show loops back. Likely one of the cheapest shows you could possibly produce and if FX wasn't doing it the Team would probably have to fund it at this point. The show creates a ton of buzz for the team, the success of the team supports the town and pushes the show further. It just keeps looping for now. The wall will hit soon and it will be interesting to see what happens to the show when the team eventually stagnates.
1
DaveShadow Apr 10, 2026 +264
This season feels like it should be great, regardless of whether they secure the play off or not, but I'd imagine that they'd be hoping Wrexham don't just settle into being a midtable Championship team with that sort of renewal. Purely from a documentary point of view, I mean. I'd imagine the fans would love that level of security from a footballing POV.

Southampton are getting hot at just the right time. Really hard to be against them winning the playoff with their current form.

Beat them last minute on the opening day too…
5
lossaysswag Apr 10, 2026 +6
That was brutal. Only hoping it leads to a redemption/playoff performance season finale.
6
DGSmith2 Apr 10, 2026 +17
Pretty unlikely now, Southhampton are two points above with a game in hand.
17
lossaysswag Apr 10, 2026 +10
Still five matches to go*. Anything could happen. They're still just 4 points from Hull, so that gives them another out.
10
fallen981 Apr 10, 2026 +9
Southampton looks way different than last season, hell they beat arsenal
9
Awesomemunk Apr 10, 2026 +2
The thing about Arsenal is they always try and walk it in
2
therocketandstones Apr 10, 2026 +3
Think their only chance is hoping Hull fall off
3
Potato271 Apr 10, 2026 +1
If (fingers crossed) we get promoted, we'll definitely be the season's villain. 2-1 comeback win on opening day as a 'welcome to the championship', 5-1 battering to reclaim the last playoff spot. Hell, even if we don't get promoted we'll probably be the villain.
1
DGSmith2 Apr 10, 2026 +111
The behind the scenes running of the club is what keeps bringing me back. Whether they go up or down doesn't matter to me as long as they keep showing that side of things I will keep watching. I can take or leave the "look at this fan she owns a coffee shop" stuff they throw in on the side.
111
Imaginary_Try_1408 Apr 10, 2026 +32
I am so, so......so tired of all the individual fan stuff. Season one moderated it well enough that I found it tolerable, if a bit excessive, but now it's half the show or more.
32
jbaker1225 Apr 10, 2026 +11
The reality is that the first season or two had to spend a lot of time explaining to the audience how running an English (Welsh) football club worked, who was doing what behind the scenes, etc. So once we had that out of the way, it had to shift that time more to the people in the town. It can be a bit much, but I get it, because the whole point of the series is to show the impact this club has on the community.
11
Imaginary_Try_1408 Apr 10, 2026 +5
Yeah, I understand their theory. I just think it was a bad decision. You can still balance better by using more interesting, club-related content rather than hours of sob stories. They lost my viewership. However, they accomplished a different goal, in that I now follow the club fairly closely and catch games when I can.
5
The_Iceman2288 Apr 10, 2026 +46
But the people in the coffee shops are the heart and soul of the show (and the town) because it shows you who the team is REALLY playing for.
46
turkeygiant Apr 10, 2026 +13
I wouldn't cut that out entirely, but I do think they can be a bit heavy on the personal interest stories when the behind these scenes of operating/managing a team are more compelling to me.
13
DGSmith2 Apr 10, 2026 +31
Sure but for me it’s the least interesting part of the show.
31
GrizzlyPerr Apr 10, 2026 +1
I was going to say, "I think this was true in the first two seasons, but less so now since they have higher-tier players that are used to switching teams frequently." But then I realized the "team" consists of the management, owners, coaches, ect. too. And youre totally right there.
1
VermiN- Apr 10, 2026 +4
I watched seasons one amd two but stopped somewhere after it just got massively enshittified down the road. Camoes from celebrities and the weird drama building. Dude takes the shot - flashback to him and his girlfriend crying about losing their kid - back to the shot, looks like it might go in - cut to the mourning couple - cut to him celebrating the goal. I would have been perfectly happy watching a show about football. I even liked the personal bits about the players a lot, but i know he lost his kid, all who watched do. Why do we need this shitty compilation
4
WestWillow Apr 10, 2026 +3
call me Maverick because I'll be The\_Iceman's wingman here. I liked the show when it was about a scrappy little upstart club and the town. As the team has turned into a bunch of mercenaries, it has lost some of its appeal to me.
3
ArmchairJedi Apr 10, 2026 +9
> I liked the show when it was about a scrappy little upstart club and the town It was never once about that though. Yes the show paid homage to the 'scrappy ' attitude of the town and the history of the team. And it liked to use that image to help frame what the team was doing. But at its core its about wealthy people using their wealth and privilege to buy success. They managed to parlay that wealth and privilege into far greater success than people expected... but those wins were bought right from the get go. And I'm not saying this as a hater... I really enjoy the show, and love to see how much success that team is having. But it all needs to be taken with a grain of salt. Its an accidental metaphor for life. Hope some rich people, that aren't total jerk offs, move into your 'region' in life, and their exploitation of the system, works in your favor (directly or indirectly).
9
jovanmilic97 Apr 10, 2026 +7
I'd be surprised if they aren't promoted to Premier League by the time Season 8 airs
7
SonyHDSmartTV Apr 10, 2026 +10
Championship is really hard to get promoted from, no guarantees. I imagine they'd get relegated immediately too
10
jdbolick Apr 10, 2026 +19
It's possible but very unlikely. Most of the teams in the Championship are much more wealthy and have more productive academies. Wrexham currently has the oldest squad in the league.
19
jovanmilic97 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Fair points, but despite all of that, they are 7th in their first Championship season already and still have a shot for the playoffs. I have to think things can get even more competitive as they settle in
1
DGSmith2 Apr 10, 2026 +13
It doesn’t work like that sadly, the longer they are in the league the harder it will be to get out of.
13
rcanhestro Apr 11, 2026 +1
yup, they are riding the momentum hard, but complacency can be a b****. also, all it takes is 1 bad season for everything to go to shit.
1
mrwoot08 Apr 10, 2026 +4
Do you think they have the financial backing to make that jump?
4
BirdmanTheThird Apr 10, 2026 +11
Not sure if they have to survive the prem, but they already are a lot better in the championship then most of us predicted.
11
SiriusMoonstar Apr 10, 2026 +6
Don’t need ridiculous amounts of money to get into the Premier League, but if they would like to stay there they would need to spend very wisely and a lot more than currently.
6
_LyleLanley_ Apr 10, 2026 -3
Ummmm…what? I’m not a h******* football fan, but AFC Wrexham at most is what maybe $300mil, whereas others in Premiere have $4 bn. plus evaluations, with some rosters alone costing $1 bn for just salaries. Man U top player is paid almost entirely the salaries of Wrexham combined.
-3
SiriusMoonstar Apr 10, 2026 +5
They don’t need to beat Man U and Chelsea to get INTO the Premier League though. They need to beat Southampton and Middlesbrough. The only other club worth close to the same as Wrexham in the Championship is Ipswich. Being promoted to the Premier League would also provide Wrexham with many more opportunities to get investments and luxurious sponsorships, as they’re already a well-known team, and would get a lot more attention than most other promoted clubs. They wouldn’t be able to compete with the big dogs of the Premier League for decades after promotion though.
5
_LyleLanley_ Apr 10, 2026 +1
I see, so how fast does that cash infusion investment happen upon promotion? I know they got a 10% private equity infusion recently, am I to assume that either that partner or another firm will jump in further to really surge the capital?
1
SiriusMoonstar Apr 10, 2026 +1
I didn’t make any claim about size or quickness of capital. It seems you have a hateboner for the club, currently outsizing your thinking device.
1
Andybabez20 Apr 10, 2026 +1
To get there yes. To stay there - they definitely need more investment.
1
DGSmith2 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Ryan & Rob will sell at that point regardless so they don’t care if they have enough to survive or not. Their goal has always been to reach the Premier league reap the rewards and get out.

Championship is a ruthless league. having money no longer is a "cheat code", when every team there is already owned by either a billionaire dude, or a big investor fund. at that point it's measured by how well you spend it, not how much.

SP0oONY Apr 10, 2026 +1
Eh, I wouldn't bet on it. There is no guarantee of progress.
1
jdbolick Apr 10, 2026 +36
This makes sense for the club, as the show drives the club's revenue and serves as a recruitment tool. I'm just not sure what storylines are left to be covered beyond the extremely slim hope of promotion to the Premier League. Wrexham have the oldest roster in the league and have probably peaked, so I could see these three additional seasons going the way of Sunderland Til I Die.

BirdLawyer50 Apr 10, 2026 +2
That’s the story thigh: the life of a club. It rose to prominence with the documentary and with aging players. Now their profile is high and their players are getting old. Hell even Mullin had a long arc of will he won’t he last season when early on he was their star player. The club is going to change as will its problems

intothevoidandback Apr 10, 2026 +8
They want the prem, and by renewing they're helping them get there, probably see it as a good investment.
8
ptambrosetti Apr 11, 2026 +3
It’s still possible to get there this season
3
intothevoidandback Apr 11, 2026 +1
Sure, of course it is. Then the money goes towards helping to make sure the plucky local club can survive in the big leagues.
1
Lonely_Noyaaa Apr 10, 2026 +25
The show is going through at least season 8 and will premiere its fifth season on May 14. I'm just happy we get to watch Rob McElhenney lose his mind over a penalty kick for another three years.

Nice. The football part is exciting, but I really enjoy the town parts and seeing the familiar faces come back. I keep telling my husband we’re going to move there.

>playoff hopes on the backburner or in the grave. It's now out of their hands. What? They're only 2 points away with 5 games left, 3 of them against lesser teams. They still have a good chance.

The championship is a harsh mistress. Signed, Swansea fan.

We've been welcomed to wrexham for a few years now! Should rename it "Still in Wrexham" :D. Great show, made me care about football which is an impressive feat

ian9outof10 Apr 10, 2026 +12
Same, I now consider Football matches to be spoilers for Welcome to Wrexham. Fortunately I don’t really watch it so there often are still surprises

Soofla Apr 10, 2026 +55
Was a goof first series - when it actually felt like an "underdog story". Now that it's just "millionaires with their toys", all feels rather meh.
55
nawyr Apr 10, 2026 +15
Oh no! Are you telling me you need millions in order to climb the football pyramid and be able to compete against all of the other clubs run by millionaires? Did you expect this club to stay at city-level forever? or be able to climb to their Premier League aspirations with part-time football players?
15
im-not-irish Apr 10, 2026 +16
It’s clearly not authentic football unless the goalkeeper is a part time plumber aswell

Werthead Apr 11, 2026 +3
I thought one of the more interesting aspects was that even international movie star Ryan Reynolds doesn't have the money remotely necessary to take a club all the way to the Premiership (and the look on his face in Season 1 when they keep telling him how much things cost is consistently entertaining) so they had to be creative in raising money, and all that money didn't help them in the first season when they failed to get promotion. The last season or so did feel a bit like them curb-stomping opposition through superior financial firepower, but in theory this season should bring back that underdog element. They're one of the poorer teams in the Championship.

berlinbaer Apr 12, 2026 +2
dude is a billionaire, he has the money if he wanted to. he just doesn't want to. listnooks glazing of reynolds is still one of the weirder aspects of this site.
2
Werthead Apr 12, 2026
If you want to play in the Premiership, merely being a billionaire (especially only just barely, as a certain court case apparently indicated) isn't going to cut it. Actually being considerably richer won't necessarily cut it, as the Glazers found out with Manchester United. It is quite amusing looking at the financial reporting trying to work out his net worth and trying to include things like the F1 team he is barely involved in and has been terrible for years (no documentary about that, oddly), and has only increased in value because of Netflix documentaries. The extreme financial mismatch between him and Rob (who is still very rich by normal person standards, just not remotely Reynolds standards) is one of the more amusing constant subplots of the series.

It is so boring.

jackel3415 Apr 10, 2026 +3
My wife and I (both not sports people) used to watch the show regularly when it first came out but for whatever reason if i turn it on in bed I pass the f*** out 5 minutes in.

JimmyTheJimJimson Apr 10, 2026 +3
When does season 5 come out?

It’s usually around May

Yes, you May

userhwon Apr 10, 2026 +5
How many people actually watch this?
5
JBSLB Apr 10, 2026 +2
Welcome to Wrexham, the slide back down. Just kidding. Lets see if they make it to the playoffs and build on the momentum from this year. We have seen teams in the championship go from playoff to relegation to League 1 fairly quickly.
2
gibbyfromicarlyTM Apr 10, 2026 +4
hoping they play richmond afc soon

These two are insufferable. This is coming from a lifelong Sunny fan.
4
stewd003 Apr 15, 2026 +1
Ryan Reynolds has always been insufferable. For some reason, Rob Macelhenney has completely transformed his personality to become Ryan's mini-me. It's so odd.
1
GoldenGouf Apr 10, 2026 +5
What the hell even is this show? Just Rob and Ryan hanging out with sports teams?
5
RyanB_ Apr 10, 2026 +9
They’re hardly really in it tbh. Mostly just follows some players and community members involved in the league.
9
tetoffens Apr 10, 2026 +4
It's about one team, a team they own. It has a diehard fanbase but has floundered for a long time. It follows the team, players, and fans as they start to go on the rise out of mediocrity.
4
jimmycarr1 Apr 10, 2026 +1
It's a documentary about the Wrexham football (soccer) team, their past struggles and Rob and Ryan's journey attempting to revive and grow the club.
1
Werthead Apr 11, 2026
They own the team and have to work with them to bring them up the ranks, which is incredibly hard. One of the recurring gags is that international movie star Ryan Reynolds may be rich but he's not rich enough to fight toe-to-toe in the upper echelons of the English and European football leagues (there are individual *players* in the Premiership whose annual wages outstrip Wrexham's entire budget) so they're constantly having to find sponsors and clever ways of raising money to stay competitive. There's one bit where he hears about how much it costs to replace the turf on the pitch when there's a mistake and he's clearly not impressed at all. They're also not in it that much (especially Ryan, Rob visits more often but he is considerably less famous), maybe a few talking heads per episode and most of it is about the players, the team, the backroom staff, the supporters etc. The last couple of seasons they've had a big subplot about how the women's team is doing and so on.

JB_JB_JB63 Apr 10, 2026 +2
At this rate there’ll be an episode about every single citizen of the town.
2
International-Quit78 Apr 10, 2026 +2
3 seasons?! You’ve got 3 seasons of this!?
2
Werthead Apr 11, 2026 +2
This is on top of the four seasons already aired, so they'll have at least 7 seasons of it.
2
Rndysasqatch Apr 10, 2026 +1
I had no interest in football when I started watching this show but I absolutely love the show so much now. I could definitely watch three more seasons
1
BramptonBatallion Apr 10, 2026 +1
Not gonna lie I thought this was the Ted Lasso show

Three seasons is the perfect hedge. Either they make it or you document the downfall.

Weirdos like me who like the behind the scenes look at pro sports. I loved seeing the process in the first 2 seasons and how their attitudes, commitments, and priorities changed. I love all sports so it's really cool to get a look under the hood from several different perspectives. Especially considering the Pro/Rel aspects as an American watcher. Wish we got more in depth looks at the executive, ownership, and strategic levels when making a regime change. Mostly get it in print media and even then it's not super detailed.

DarkKnightCometh Apr 10, 2026 -1
I watched the first season, was mildly entertaining but that was enough for me. Last news I saw about Wrexham was that Mac/Reynolds sold their stake in the team, so hard to imagine what the shows about now
-1
livenetwork Apr 10, 2026 +3
Who said that? What’s the source?
3
DarkKnightCometh Apr 10, 2026 +2
Not sure this was a while ago. Possible that I got wrong info lol. Edit yeah looks like they sold minority stake but still have control. Like I said, I only watched one season and kind of lost interest after that
2
vonsnack Apr 10, 2026 -52
this show is way too focused on the celebrities involved and not the club.
-52
PM_ME_UR_SEX_VIDEOS Apr 10, 2026 +33
Have you not watched it
33
The_Iceman2288 Apr 10, 2026 +26
This is utter nonsense. They barely featured in the last season and basically had a cameo in each episode. Phil Parkinson is basically the show's main character now.
26
Disastrous_Wing7084 Apr 10, 2026 +14
Yeah I quit watching it because it was way too focused on the club and not the celebrities involved, so I don't know what this guy is talking about lol

Dajo05 Apr 10, 2026 +4
So if my Mum hadn't hit her brakes when Parky was crossing the road outside Elm Park back in the 90s then he wouldn't be the main character of a Disney documentary.
4
DGSmith2 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Is Parky a Disney princess?
1
Dajo05 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Not with the challenges he used to put in playing in midfield.

lossaysswag Apr 10, 2026 +10
Absolute horseshit claim.

vonsnack Apr 10, 2026
clearly downvoted to hell for this. I've watched the first two seasons and started with the third and couldn't do it. It just seemed like they were in every episode and Rob Mac in particular drives me a little crazy. But it sounds like I should keep watching. Thanks for the brutal but necessary feedback!

ButtPlugForPM Apr 10, 2026 -5
I like this show but they really need to fix the editing up so that this releases as close to as REAL time as possible. isn't a a LOT going on in the show they could easily pump an episode out a week after a match Releasing it 4-5 months or MORE after a season just gets ruined for the ppl who don't fully follow football
-5
racer_24_4evr Apr 10, 2026 +3
It releases on May 14, about two weeks after the final regular season match.
3
jbaker1225 Apr 10, 2026 +1
Last year they moved the release back from August to May, and they’re keeping it in May now, so it will follow pretty closely after the end of the season.
