The Human League had some memorable hits where they alternated lead vocals (“Don’t You Want Me” alternated between Philip Oakey and Susan Ann Sulley, while “(Keep Feeling) Fascination” featured four different members singing parts of the verse).
Some other notable songs I could think of are “Our Lips Are Sealed” by the Go-Go’s (Belinda Carlisle lead, Jane Wiedlin bridge), “1999” by Prince (Prince and members of the Revolution alternate lines of the verse), “Would?” by Alice In Chains (Jerry Cantrell verse, Layne Staley chorus), and “Fat Lip” by Sum 41 (members alternate lines throughout the song).
Of course it’s pretty common with rap groups like Wu Tang Clan, Beastie Boys and Run DMC, vocal groups like One Direction and the Spice Girls, as well as some more recent bands like 311, Linkin Park and Alexisonfire, but are there any other notable songs/artists I’m missing? Are there any Beatles songs where Lennon and McCartney share lead vocals? Fleetwood Mac? Eagles?
Other songs, besides The Weight, where they trade off lead vocals within the same track include:
- Acadian Driftwood
- We Can Talk
- Ain’t No More Cane

If you haven’t seen the documentary about how the band came about it’s worth watching - I think it’s called something like “The True History of the Traveling Wilburys”. There’s a hilarious bit in there where Tom Petty, I think, talks about George Harrison making all of them “audition” for the vocal parts on each track and how intimidating it was for him to be going up against Roy Orbison for a vocal part :-).
But the story about the band is just kind of heartwarming. “So I had dinner with Roy one day and we decided to drive over to George’s house to pick up a guitar that I’d left there…”

Apparently they came about when Tom Petty was hanging out with George Harrison and they started talking about forming a band. Petty joked, "Bob Dylan should be in the band," like of course Dylan would never be in their band. Harrison replied, "I can call him."

R.E.M. are a great band, they always have this Post Modern or H******* element where something super obvious that's right there you'll never notice.
They're like Husker Du and The Replacements in that it can just sound like buzzing until you click with the song. It can take multiple listens, over decades.
Mike Mills sings so much in R.E.M. it's more like Michael Stipe is the narrator. And on Shiny Happy People he's doing the counterpoint alongside Kate Pierson who does exactly the same thing in the B-52's.

Forget well knowns songs. Let me give you two obscure bands from the UK.
Level 42 divides the vocal duties between Mark King, and Mike Lindup.
Before Robert Palmer and Elkie Brooks went solo, they were in this band called Vinegar Joe. Another excellent example.

Totally forgot about “Something About You”. The contrast between the two voices was perfect for that song.

Love their song *Something About You.*
It’s gloriously 80s.

Queens of the Stone Age albums “Songs for the Deaf” and “Rated R” have three amazing/unique vocalists.

It's not well known like a single, but The Smashing Pumpkins closed out Mellon Collie and the Infinite Sadness with Farwell and Goodnight, a beautiful outro where all four members have a part on the vocals, the only song in their history (unless they did it again more recently) to do that: [https://youtu.be/-uJvUG3Dshs?si=75fF\_gXn63G1XaXe](https://youtu.be/-uJvUG3Dshs?si=75fF_gXn63G1XaXe)

I mean, maybe they're not your cup of tea, but I wouldn't say they're pathetic...

A lot of Blink 182 split theirs. One More Time is one sung by Mark, Tom and Travis.

For Beatles songs:
A Day In The Life
I've Got A Feeling
And honestly a lot of their songs kinda blur the line with this idea, due to the arrangements of The Beatles harmonies. We Can Work it Out is sung by Paul McCartney in the verses, but Lennon takes the lead harmony in chorus.

System of a Down is the obvious answer here.
But if you’re gonna go into the posthardcore realm with Alexisonfire then you have to mention the GOAT of duo vocals of the same genre, Alesana.

Golden Earring has this in several of their songs. The best known one (in the US anyway) would be Twilight Zone.
Alice In Chains has already been mentioned a lot, but I did not see anyone specifically mention Right Turn which has vocal lines by both Layne and Jerry, but also features Chris Cornell and Mark Arm.

Four Year Strong splits the vocals between at least two of their members, maybe three, pretty often. Maximum The Hormone has three members that all share vocals. Tons of metalcore bands did the singer/screamer thing.

Many a time with Pink Floyd, of course.
Happens a ton with metal bands, usually with one singer handling the growls and another the cleans.
Way too many to catalogue, but for some examples:
Enslaved - Ground
Mastodon - Oblivion
Insomnium - The Reticent
Neurosis - Purify
Borknagar - Winter Thrice
Kylesa - Scapegoat

High Plains Drifter by The Beastie Boys is a great example of this. They don't just take turns saying lines, they alternate words in the same sentence sometimes.
