They’ve been saying that ever since the very first time the whale got stuck. The first attempt was fine, maybe the whale still had some fight in him, but after that? A complete waste of media attention for the sake of generating some sort of fairytale narrative. The whale is sick, his entire stomach is almost certainly filled with garbage and remains from the fishing net he evidently got stuck in, his skin has been in awful shape from the very beginning and only ever got worse.
It’s disgusting that even our state media gives this any attention. Let nature take it’s course, then let (real) biologists and veterinarians take care of the cadaver to figure out what happened, which they write in a boring report that boils down to „Yeah we’re polluting our oceans too much. Hey politicians maybe do something about humanity destroying its own habitat?“ which will get quietly ignored in favor of more cars and more gas plants.

To some people whales have an almost holy status these days. Someone like that even sued the government because it's "not doing enough" to save the whale...
At this point love for animals meets the Dunning Kruger effect which leads to animals being WAY too humanized. The fact they named it already speaks as much.

Not a clue how you're downvoted for that. The amount of times I've read "I looked into his eyes and we communicated that way" of some sort the last few days is mindboggling.
"I looked him in the eye and we communicated. The animal answered and gave me the feeling he accepts me". - not some random lady with too much time but the Secretary of Agriculture of the region where the whale's stranded.

Anecdote time: a friend used to work at a major US submarine base, and they spilled the beans about the whale-discombobulating sonar after I noticed they seemed depressed and asked them what had happened.
I thought his girlfriend must have left him, but he was just *very* upset over a recent major beaching event..
