What are some seperate installments in a franchise that are very well-regarded in their own right, so the debate is which one is better?

I'll start. Toy Story 2 and Toy Story 3 are both generally seen as great movies (and they are!), but people are divided on the better one. Personally, the third one is my favorite, but I 100 percent get why people prefer the second. Alien (1979) and Aliens are also two very good examples, but it mostly boils down to personal taste.

The Godfather Part I and Part II are both universally praised. The entire Lord of the Rings Trilogy too.

LOTR trilogy is praised as a whole. The movies obviously wouldn't work individually

Rogue One. Out of the modern Star Wars movies and series it stands out. Andor too

Begins is the best of the trilogy by a distance

A distance is a biiiiiig stretch. It's very close with TDK

Alien and Aliens. Both great movies but wildly different so straight comparison is difficult.

Obviously The Godfather. It's up for debate if The Godfather or The Godfather part II is the better film.

This is the best answer. Personally, I like the first film more, but it’s *so* close.

There hasn't been a "bad" TMNT tv show and all of them are very different

Same with Transformers, sorta. (Okay, some Transformers shows like Energon and the prime wars trilogy HAVE sucked.)

A Nightmare on Elm Street 3: Dream Warriors is a fan favorite of the franchise.

All of the Evil Dead movies.

I would always go for the 1st one, because the storylines for the squels would have not existed had the 1st one not been created.

Paddington and Paddington 2. I am personally a Paddington 2 guy, but some people prefer the first one. But it is like arguing which one is a perfect 10 and which one is only a 9.9, in the end does it really matter when both are so good?

*Raiders of the Lost Ark* and *Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade*. Personally, the drama between Indy and his father pushes *Crusade* to the top for me, but the action is better in *Raiders*, so I can see why people would like that more.

For a Few Dollars More is better than The Good the Bad and the Ugly.

Batman and Batman Returns. Both are good movies, but I think Batman is better.

Alien: Sci fi horror. Aliens: Sci fi action / horror Two very different movies back to back. Each amazing in its own right, hugely debated which one is peak.

Star Trek 2-4 are all excellent but between 2 & 4 it’s hard to say which is better, I think it depends on whether you prefer the seriousness of 2 or the lightheartedness of 4. And the last 5(ish) min of both. Spock’s funeral vs the introduction of the NCC-1701-A
