What are your favorite movies or documentaries where a park or a forest plays an important role?

Posted by adjcalledKtana

Hello, We are going to work on a short documentary about a park in the middle of a high density neighborhood. Its a park used by people from very different background (no tourist) which generat very unusual meetings / interactions. As its possible that we will have to produce it ourselves i would really like to have a list of very interesting movies or documentary where the forest/ trees plays an important role. The photography is very important here. If you have a movie or doc in mind do not hesitate to tell me. Thank you

*First Blood* is a legitimately good movie with some great images of the Pacific Nothwest. Just don't watch the sequels.

Maybe not very tree centric, but I think The Ascent movie has stuck with me for years and years. Eventually when the video game The Forest came out, it reminded me of The Ascent a great deal.

Oh yes, author Bill Bryson also makes a good case in the book "A Walk in the Woods" is based on. But that's true for pretty much every book he wrote. His love-declaration to Des Moines, Iowa: "The Life and Times of the Thunderbolt Kid" telling of his growing up there in the 1950s and 60s. Or "A short history of nearly everthing"

Baraka and Home (by Yann Arthus-Bertrand) come to mind immediately. True gems of photography. Edit: Also: Pete's Dragon (2016) and Bridge To Terabithia (2007) make woods an important subject!

Alone in the Wilderness. It's a documentary of a man who, well, moves to the wilderness by himself. Trees couldn't be more important to the story, as everything he needs, including his house, are hand made from timber he fells.

It's absolutely fantastic. He was also an amateur filmmaker and filmed the whole thing alone by himself (this was the late 60s btw) and the narration is based on his journals

The ultimate film that revolves around a playground is Ikiru. It might be an insane suggestion considering the subject matter but towards the end of under the skin there are some beautiful shots of a dense forest.

Agree you should look at Ikuru. A director who is routinely in the conversation as the GOAT, centered a movie on making a small city park. But it’s set in post war Tokyo, so not “diverse” if you feel that is critical. And about making the park not the park already made.

It’s a not a movie movie, more experimental.
