Used as torture many centuries ago

F****** torture, I am not responsible for the injuries of anyone who tries tickling me

Someone used to do this to me thinking it was so funny and I ended up knocking their face and their glasses flew off their face quite a few feet away. I’m glad I’m not the only one 🤭

Yea I kicked my mother straight in the nose one time as a kid. Heel to the nose. Not intentional, but effective in getting her to stop at least.

it's fine if your SO does it. Kinda weird if an 80 year old stranger on the street tries to tickle you

Like a rollercoaster for nerves fun for 3 seconds, then suddenly feels like medieval torture.

Very accurate

Depends on how it is done (soft or rough) and for how long? A brief, light tickle can be pleasant and funny. Other than that? It's pretty painful. Why we laugh at either is beyond me. Not much funny about it.

I think it’s a defense mechanism but yeah, crazy how we laugh

I Googled right after I posted my other response b/c I was curious about it. You're pretty right. This is what I found: * **The Brain's Defense Mechanism:** The hypothalamus is responsible for interpreting light touch. When tickled, this part of the brain is activated and signals for a laughter response. This response is considered a way of showing submission to an aggressor to prevent injury. * **A Blend of Pleasure and Pain:**  Ticklishness often involves nerves associated with both touch and pain, leading to a "panic" sensation that is expressed as laughter, rather than pain. It makes sense to me.

I'm not ticklish. But I also hate being touched by anyone except my husband.
2
Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +1
That’s what ticklish people say
1
AilurosLunaire Mar 30, 2026 +1
That's also what not ticklish people say. My husband tried his best and failed. Then I found out he is extremely ticklish.

Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Woah woah woah don’t go tickling him now just because you’re immune
1
AilurosLunaire Mar 30, 2026 +1
He started it. I just finished it.

My thoughts? I might have given it one thought when I was 5 years old. It didn't seem to require additional thoughts ever since.

Tickling me is a good way to get a swift foot to the very middle of your neck. Don’t f****** tickle me.
1
Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Didn’t know you felt so strong about being tickled 😂
1
RoguelyShinobi Mar 30, 2026 +1
Go ahead, but you might have a few bones broken! Don’t say I didn’t warn you!
1
Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Probably won’t then 😂

I'm not ticklish when other people tickle me, but I'm able to tickle myself when I'm not thinking about it, like I'll brush a spot on my upper arm or above my lip, and that tickles, I think the reason it happens, is because when other people try to tickle me, I'm expecting it, so I'm not really that startled, the reaction to being tickled is a fear response from what I've heard. When it comes to me tickling myself, I'm not expecting it, so that leaves more room to be startled, and thus more response. Another thing is that a lot of people I know use the prodding and not brushing method, and prodding hurts, it doesn't tickle.
1
Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +2
That’s very interesting, someone has to try brushing you then
2
Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +1
That’s fair
1
Binji_the_dog Mar 30, 2026 +1
Honestly it’s been so long since someone tickled me that I can’t quite remember what it’s like.

Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Gotta change that 😈

BotherSuccessful5175 Mar 30, 2026 +1
tickling is low-key torture for some people, like why would you do that to someone? but for others, it’s just a fun way to mess around. wild how it varies!
1
Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +1
It is wild!! That’s a good analysis

Nivlac93 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Part of me likes it, but it can quickly turn painful for me. Unfortunately my dad and uncles never believed me that it hurt. Doesn't help that one of my reflex reactions to pain is laughter.  A little is good, too much is torture. I'm just glad my tickle spots are very specific and don't always trigger.  I can tickle the roof of my mouth with my tongue and I use that to help me stay awake if I start getting drowsy while driving.

Wonderful_Boat8914 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Woah that’s a unique skill!

Screw people who think it’s fun or funny to do it against someone’s will and consent. Keep your f****** hands off of me.
