I seen this thread before many times, but in years past. As if March 2026, their has been so many good stuff over the years, so I am curious to see what people's lists are. Has to be a movie that came out by January 1st 2001 to current
My top 3 are currently
1. Mad Max: Fury Road
2. Mulholland Drive
3. There Will be Blood.
I'm curios to see what your guys lists are

Children of Men was released in the US on Dec 25, 2006. If it had released just 7 days later, they would all be 2007 movies.
As far as US releases go, that is. Because it was first released in the UK on Sept 22, 2006. So more like 100 days; still close, but not as cool to say as 7.

It’s the first act in a three act story. The “trilogy” is a complete story, like the books were intended.
Fellowship slaps because first acts should pull you in, fall in love with the story to be told.

I watch a lot of movies, like 5 per week on average and very rarely does a movie stick with me for so long. I still randomly think about aftersun years later, especially the ending. It was so perfectly crafted to hit you out of nowhere like a tonne of bricks and I'm not even a particularly emotional person.
I think it probably definitely has a harder impact on you if you can relate to it in any way.

Superbad is just so so good.
Captured the emotion of high school in the mid 2000s with absolute perfection.
The drinking, the thought that everyone is doing cool shit, the NEED to have that one fling before college.
It’s rare for a movie, much less a raunchy teen comedy, to capture a moment in life so perfectly.
My friends and I are all in our 30s, and it’s still often quoted. Hell, every friend group I’ve had - high school, college, similarly-aged coworkers - it’s always a common thread.
It’s not high brow, but it did what it did exceptionally well.

I really love about time. Movies that have a huge "elephant in the room" that's still just a minor plot point is one of my fav genres. In this case you have literal time travel, but the movie is more about a boy going thru adulthood and his relationship with his dad. I also really like Force Majeure (2014) which is ostensibly about a family trying to get away from the Alps after getting stuck by an avalanche, but really it's about how a wife no longer can look at her husband the same way after he saved himself over his kids.

Score aside, that movie has one of my favorite Needle Drops of any movie ever with “*Baby You’re a Rich Man*” to round it out at the end. It’s *so* fitting in the *most* ironic way possible.
The whole background of the song is that the “Beautiful People” (Counterculture Hippies in 1960s California) were spiritually rich, but not Materially & that you didn’t to be wealthy to be rich.
Plopping that song at the very end of a biopic about the—at the time—youngest self-made billionaire in the world is some serious poetic irony. And I can 100% guarantee that Fincher did so intentionally.

Could it have been the lenses Roger Deakins used for certain shots?
I'd sell my first born child (if I had one) to see the original extended cut.

Honorable mentions: palm springs. I'm not even a fan of most of those actors or the whole groundhog day scenario. However that movie deserves mentioning at the very least. I'm also going to agree with children of men being absolutely fantastic. Definitely deserves top 3.

The amount of No Country for Old Men and Fury Road in here is kind of odd to be honest. That’s not to denigrate those great films, it’s just rare to see consensus on anything.
Personally, mine are Lost in Translation, Spiderman Into the Spiderverse, and Oh Brother Where Art Thou. With Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind and Spirited Away honorable mentions.

Or
