What celebrity has absolutely no skills but they're famous anyway and no one can really remember or explain why and/or how?

Reality stars. Being shameless is not really a skill.

lonelygalexy Apr 2, 2026 +114
But sometimes i wish to learn how to be shameless. It’s how you succeed in most workplacestoo
114
DrRichardJizzums Apr 2, 2026 +72
Our society doesn’t understand how to deal with shamelessness. It’s basically a super power for those who are willing to forego common dignity. Shame and self respect used to be guardrails that protected the rest of us.

I'm still amazed the idiots on Jersey Shore are still around. Snookie wrote a book for the love of god

One of my favorite tidbits is the fact that fashion brands would anonymously gift her the products of their competitors, hoping she would wear them, thus tarnishing that brand. 😆

Hey, show some respect. Snookie has a 100% win rate at Wrestlemania...do you?

If it were popular now GTL(GymTanLaundry) Coin would absolutely be a thing.

Look, Jersey Shore is entirely its own thing. Compared to other reality shows, it's quite charming.
92
Mm2k Apr 2, 2026 +59
My favourite thing about Jersey Shore is that you could replace them with anyone else from Jersey Shore, and you'd have the same show. It's a study in anthroplogy.

counterfitster Apr 2, 2026 +8
Is this where we point out that most of the cast isn't from New Jersey?
8
wigwam83 Apr 2, 2026 +11
I understand what you mean, but I gotta beg to differ. That show was PERFECTLY cast, just the right amount of d***** bag and charm, not everyone is as much of a character as those people.
11
BKlounge93 Apr 2, 2026 +8
I was gonna say, I never watched it when it aired originally, but tried it for a trashy laugh a year or two ago. It was surprisingly wholesome lmao.

If you think they have no skills, you don't understand the TV business. The ones that keep getting booked on show after show have the skill of knowing what producers want AND how to provide it. They know how to react stupidly big to everything so the editors have lots of reaction shots to use, they know how to have big emotions on camera. If skills weren't involved, they would put just anyone on reality TV, and they don't. These shows are cast, and they're cast from an increasingly small pool of "reality" stars who TV producers know can deliver what they (and the public?) want. They have skills. Whether those skills would help them in an office job, or whether or not we want to live in a world where those skills are celebrated and well-remunerated and publicised are different questions. But they have skills.
153
MetalingusMikeII Apr 2, 2026 +78
It doesn’t have to be a skill. We don’t live in a meritocracy. Entertainment just needs to be… entertaining. That’s fundamentally all that matters. Realty TV has a large audience, because it’s entertaining to a lot of people.
78
rethardus Apr 2, 2026 +44
Yea. One thing that people don't understand is that not everything is a competition. Your health is not a competition. Your travels are not a competition. I blame how our system uses money or fame to define people's self worth. Just enjoy baking your ugly cake, it's not f****** Bake Off.

This video explains the Kardashians and gives us some valuable life lessons: [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bk\_0rosMNt8](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bk_0rosMNt8) "If you want to make it in the world today, sometimes you gotta f*** Moesha's brother."

Nosedive888 Apr 2, 2026 +349
I prefer the version where the Kardashians are famous because the Buffalo Bills sucked/were good in the 70s I can't remember the exact details, but it goes something like. The Buffalo Bills, for whatever reason got the first draft pick and chose OJ Simpson. OJ met his future wife who worked for the Bills. He would later be arrested and put on trial for her murder. One of his lawyers was the father of the Kardashians, that trial made him rich and famous and thus thrust his daughters into the limelight and now they're famous too
349
k-laz Apr 2, 2026 +50
IIRC, some other team made a late touchdown to win a meaningless game that knocked the Bills into the first draft position.
50
knowledgeable_diablo Apr 2, 2026 +67
Isnt there some rumours that OJ banged his wife a bit as well and could potentially be the father of some of the Kardashians?
67
jendet010 Apr 2, 2026 +87
If that were true, they would have some talent. Khloe was rumored to be Kris’s hair dresser’s kid.
87
vervii44 Apr 2, 2026 +8
Like what, they would be a football player?

OJ was a solid actor. There's nothing I love more than watching him get his ass kicked in the Naked Gun series.

They had the right timing of exploiting the early 00s paparazzi/celeb culture that was based on magazines and scandals into social media driven business deals. They transitioned from the smallest bit of fame (related to the OJ scandal, sucking d*** while being friends with Paris Hilton) into growing your own audience with your personality alone into cashing on said audience with any brand willing to w**** you out.
234
TommyFX Apr 2, 2026 +337
OJ Simpson made the Kardashians. He killed Nicole, and then their father Robert Kardashian was put on his legal defense team and his name was blasted over the airwaves and was in every newspaper in the country for years. Years and years of free branding that made "Kardashian" a household name years before his ex wife and kids came on the scene.

99% of influencers

gilestowler Apr 2, 2026 +207
I used to know a girl who became a bit of an influencer. Not huge, but she made some money from it. Her whole thing was that she was a model, but also a very good skater, so she wasn't conventional, and her social media was all videos of her skating and doing tricks. She also did it in more girly clothes, because she wanted to tell girls that they didn't have to conform to wearing what guys wore when they went skating and they could still be themselves. She was also adamant that she'd never edit or filter her shots, saying that she wanted to be a good role model. But then she did some skating in some skimpier outfits, just because they were comfortable in the summer, and got a lot of attention. Next thing you know, she got a b*** job and her social media is taken over by edited shots of her in bikinis or wearing tiny outfits skating. It's not that she didn't have talent - she was a good skater, at least - it's that being an influencer made her focus on something other than talent.

I limit my social media presence and got rid of FB maybe 10-12 years ago. Never had an IG until I started woodworking but then I noticed a lot of the people on YouTube had IG content that was cool so I signed up for it and figured I’d find a few more. That freaking algorithm was pushing so many women “woodworkers” who are just O******* models with power tools. It amazed me how thirsty some dudes are and some of the women are pretty decent at it, but why on earth are they ripping white oak boards on a table saw wearing yoga pants, flip flops, and a sports bra that looks two sizes too small.
28
dearth_of_passion Apr 2, 2026 +12
There was a streamer I watched who basically exclusively played video games and talked about anime, but she was a cute girl with big t*** so her audience was of a certain type. But she didn't do anything more risqué than the occasional cosplay as Laura Croft or whatever. But then she got an Instagram and started posting a lot of cleavage/naughty (but not explicit) pics there, while still doing the game streaming. Then the Instagram got a Linktree with an O*******, but with the disclaimer that "absolutely no nudity, just teasing/revealing outfits". Then the streams transitioned to hot tubs, and the O******* went full n***. Now she doesn't stream on Twitch at all, only selling tokens/tickets to n*** streams on other platforms. A shame, since she'd been doing the game streaming for like 7 years, then fully switched to p*** within like 18 months.

Same, and I felt validated for hating her when a bunch of tweets surfaced of her telling people to kill themselves and shit. Disgusting human.
42
gongaIicious Apr 2, 2026 +35
Not just telling someone to kill themself, which is bad in itself, but telling Courtney Stodden to kill herself. Courtney was a 16 year old model who was at the time MARRIED to a 51 year old actor named Doug Hutchinson. The media was mocking the MINOR who had been groomed by this grown ass man, and Chrissy joined in by not only publicly tweeting at her to kill herself, but private messaging her messages to kill herself as well. Actual ghoulish behavior. She's apologized for it since, but I don't really care. A grown woman who sees a 51 year old man preying on a 16 year old and decides to go out of her way to bully the teenager is fucked beyond belief. There are some things I don't think someone can come back from. And this doesn't even take into account all her weird pedophilia "jokes" Chrissy made on twitter at the same time.

True, Sean is THE chillest dude ever. I love the Dave Grohl episode. Sean (drunkenly): "I love you man" Dave: "Ah man, you're drunk!"

I genuinely think this guy should have been put into a group home, but someone just took him, dressed him up and told him he is famous now. Even his catch phrases sound like something you would hear on shift at a house of clients. WE DA BEST MUSIC. Living his dream out of a DJ, while not actually knowing anything about it. I think he's a front.

It’s kind of unfortunate that he’s in a famous family because if he was in an ordinary one, he wouldn’t be judged on a massive scale for lack of talent or forced to meet such expectations. But he’s rich and can get away with doing nothing so I can’t feel too bad.
15
phatelectribe Apr 2, 2026 +9
If you look at older videos, it seems like he actually hated growing up in the spotlight, and given the current situation, he really blames his parents for pimping out the family brand and being such fame whores. He didn’t choose to grow up famous and I do have a bit of sympathy because he can’t do anything without it being scrutinized.

Ryan Seacrest. Not especially funny or interesting. He’s just…fine. And yet has made hundreds of millions hosting various programs.
165
tugboatnavy Apr 2, 2026 +120
I have some respect for Seacrest because by all means he's a natural freak when it comes to being a workhorse. Back in the day he juggled American Idol, the NBC morning show, being a DJ on iheartradio, being an executive producer for the Kardashian's show, and doing red carpet events for every award show. Even now he's involves in like 5 different projects. Besides just working on a grueling schedule, he does it all while being a "just fine" host. But he doesn't f*** up and he has had any major embarrassing moments. People in his industry often talk about how much pressure being public facing is and how nerve wracking it is. Seacrest just does it constantly with seemingly little complaints or errors on his part.

Which is exactly why he's the new D*** Clark. Like, they nailed it with that one. He's the Joe Dimaggio of being a host.

KontraEpsilon Apr 2, 2026 +6
My only question is why does he do all of that when he’s got to be insanely rich by now?

Some people love being on stage.

Tbf, having a presenter who you can rely upon to safely perform live is a valuable asset. The benefit of Ryan Seacrest and similar is you know exactly what you'll get with him, and you can rely on him to keep the show going.

He's the chicken tenders of people. Mild, non-threatening, most people can take it, it's slightly more adult than nuggets.

I’ve always said that being able to talk/host live TV (sometimes for HOURS at a time) is a legitimate skill that is extremely valuable to networks and the like.

Tippacanoe Apr 2, 2026 +27
Ryan Seacrest is a legitimately good normie host. He has a lane and plays it well. He’s not a comedian, he’s there to be charismatic and pleasant and he does a good job at that.

SecretBaker8 Apr 2, 2026 +28
He started as a radio DJ in LA in the mid 90s.

I'm pretty sure he's the reason we invented the word metrosexual and that's always makes me giggle lmao

I can tell you exactly why he is so famous. He is good at what he does and is reliable. Thats it. He doesn't need to be the funniest person in the room. he doesn't need to be the best looking. He is good at hosting and seems to be a reliable person to hire when it comes to hosting.

Creepy_Wash338 Apr 2, 2026 +10
Carson Daly was very similar. He presented things. That's all.

Elon, for years the internet praised him as some kind of messiah because he posted memes and acted goofy. Now people are seeing that he invented nothing and gets all the credit anyway

Elon Musk. He is a fraud. He is not an engineer or a programmer and he has invented JACK SHIT. Every successful company he is a part of he bought his way into. His only talent is being born into money.

Lately, i see a lot of North West on the Kardashian snark page of her being promoted by kanye on stage.. no hate on North.. but sadly, the girl can't dance well on stage, cant sing or rap, (it shows she jas had no real training anyways) she has no authentic stage presence and looks awkward above the crowd... ***and of course she does!!! She is 12***.. being dressed and paraded around like she is 16 is actually quite sad.. i dont blame North for any of this.. this is all kanye and kim... i cant explain why she is famous for anything other than a nepo baby to kim and kanye..

Trisha Paytas. A part of me finds her entertaining enough to follow her on Instagram but I literally have no idea what she does or why she's famous. Apparently she used to be a huge piece of shit in the past on YouTube and now she's on Broadway???
11
toad_crumbs Apr 2, 2026 +7
She’s entertaining enough that you follow her. So, you plus how many followers she has is why she’s famous. “I don’t know why she’s famous yet I follow her” ???

Jedward. They are talentless even for reality stars. They are still a big enough draw in Ireland.

Her main achievement is making it harder for Google to autocomplete "Jojo's Bizarre Adventure"

The first time I saw the words "Jojo Siwa" my immediate thought was "can I eat it?" Then I found out it was a girl and the answer was yes, but I don't want to.

She was on "Celebrity" Big Brother here in the UK last year, and seems to be making hay while the sun shines and trying to establish herself as "that celebrity that will appear on anything"

Kim Kardashian and she got famous for getting fucked, in case y'all forgot. Literally made p*** with her boyfriend and then acted outraged when he sold it. (Took her cut and rode it to fame.)

And is now trying to gaslight the world by claiming she was taken advantage of and that it was never meant to be released to the world. Even with the heavy production done by her mother
