If you think they have no skills, you don't understand the TV business. The ones that keep getting booked on show after show have the skill of knowing what producers want AND how to provide it. They know how to react stupidly big to everything so the editors have lots of reaction shots to use, they know how to have big emotions on camera. If skills weren't involved, they would put just anyone on reality TV, and they don't. These shows are cast, and they're cast from an increasingly small pool of "reality" stars who TV producers know can deliver what they (and the public?) want. They have skills. Whether those skills would help them in an office job, or whether or not we want to live in a world where those skills are celebrated and well-remunerated and publicised are different questions. But they have skills.

It doesn’t have to be a skill. We don’t live in a meritocracy. Entertainment just needs to be… entertaining. That’s fundamentally all that matters. Realty TV has a large audience, because it’s entertaining to a lot of people.

I prefer the version where the Kardashians are famous because the Buffalo Bills sucked/were good in the 70s I can't remember the exact details, but it goes something like. The Buffalo Bills, for whatever reason got the first draft pick and chose OJ Simpson. OJ met his future wife who worked for the Bills. He would later be arrested and put on trial for her murder. One of his lawyers was the father of the Kardashians, that trial made him rich and famous and thus thrust his daughters into the limelight and now they're famous too

They had the right timing of exploiting the early 00s paparazzi/celeb culture that was based on magazines and scandals into social media driven business deals. They transitioned from the smallest bit of fame (related to the OJ scandal, sucking d*** while being friends with Paris Hilton) into growing your own audience with your personality alone into cashing on said audience with any brand willing to w**** you out.

OJ Simpson made the Kardashians. He killed Nicole, and then their father Robert Kardashian was put on his legal defense team and his name was blasted over the airwaves and was in every newspaper in the country for years. Years and years of free branding that made "Kardashian" a household name years before his ex wife and kids came on the scene.

Kim's claim to fame is getting railed on camera and she stole the idea of "sex tape" from Paris Hilton. Kim's achievement is basically being a copycat hoe.

Greatest example here. It's an ouroboros of fame. They are famous for being famous.

I used to know a girl who became a bit of an influencer. Not huge, but she made some money from it. Her whole thing was that she was a model, but also a very good skater, so she wasn't conventional, and her social media was all videos of her skating and doing tricks. She also did it in more girly clothes, because she wanted to tell girls that they didn't have to conform to wearing what guys wore when they went skating and they could still be themselves. She was also adamant that she'd never edit or filter her shots, saying that she wanted to be a good role model. But then she did some skating in some skimpier outfits, just because they were comfortable in the summer, and got a lot of attention. Next thing you know, she got a b*** job and her social media is taken over by edited shots of her in bikinis or wearing tiny outfits skating. It's not that she didn't have talent - she was a good skater, at least - it's that being an influencer made her focus on something other than talent.

I genuinely think this guy should have been put into a group home, but someone just took him, dressed him up and told him he is famous now. Even his catch phrases sound like something you would hear on shift at a house of clients. WE DA BEST MUSIC. Living his dream out of a DJ, while not actually knowing anything about it. It’s kind of unfortunate that he’s in a famous family because if he was in an ordinary one, he wouldn’t be judged on a massive scale for lack of talent or forced to meet such expectations. But he’s rich and can get away with doing nothing so I can’t feel too bad.

I have some respect for Seacrest because by all means he's a natural freak when it comes to being a workhorse. Back in the day he juggled American Idol, the NBC morning show, being a DJ on iheartradio, being an executive producer for the Kardashian's show, and doing red carpet events for every award show. Even now he's involves in like 5 different projects. Besides just working on a grueling schedule, he does it all while being a "just fine" host. But he doesn't f*** up and he has had any major embarrassing moments. People in his industry often talk about how much pressure being public facing is and how nerve wracking it is. Seacrest just does it constantly with seemingly little complaints or errors on his part.

Because fine is safe.

Tbf, having a presenter who you can rely upon to safely perform live is a valuable asset. The benefit of Ryan Seacrest and similar is you know exactly what you'll get with him, and you can rely on him to keep the show going.

Ryan Seacrest is a legitimately good normie host. He has a lane and plays it well. He’s not a comedian, he’s there to be charismatic and pleasant and he does a good job at that.

He started as a radio DJ in LA in the mid 90s.

I can tell you exactly why he is so famous. He is good at what he does and is reliable. Thats it. He doesn't need to be the funniest person in the room. he doesn't need to be the best looking. He is good at hosting and seems to be a reliable person to hire when it comes to hosting.

The first time I saw the words "Jojo Siwa" my immediate thought was "can I eat it?" Then I found out it was a girl and the answer was yes, but I don't want to.

She was on "Celebrity" Big Brother here in the UK last year, and seems to be making hay while the sun shines and trying to establish herself as "that celebrity that will appear on anything"

And is now trying to gaslight the world by claiming she was taken advantage of and that it was never meant to be released to the world. Even with the heavy production done by her mother
