I work from home, usually long days 8-11 hours. I have a few good friends but none that live close to me anymore. I feel like by the end of the day I'm exhausted and after cooking dinner I have barely any time or energy left to do anything.
i'm in my mid 20's, AuDHD, heavy anxiety, fluctuating mental health and feel as though everyone has interesting lives while i'm here doing nothing lol.
I'm aware this post sounds whiny as hell, but I thought I may as well just say how I'm feeling in case people have been through similar things.
Regardless, I'd love to hear what your afternoon/evening looks like after getting off work!
(fellow lonely or neurodivergent peoples input is very much appreciated too!)
Work is tough and tiring, theres no shame in being tired after it. I work as a bar manager so work evenings and as soon as I get in my head hits the pillow and I ma out like a light. So your already doing better than me! dont beat yourself up about your body acting the way it should!

Dude, you're definitely not alone. I'm in the exact same situation and all my friends living too far away now. By the time I finish working and figure out food, my energy is in the negatives. I usually just put on sweatpants and zone out playing a game or watching YouTube for the rest of the night. You aren't boring, your brain is just exhausted.

Totally, I'm with you on the YouTube, and also doomscroling.
With games I always feel like I don't have enough time for a good session so never end up playing haha.

first off, don’t feel bad about sharing how you feel, a lot of people get it. after long work days, i usually try to go for a walk or binge something, just to recharge a bit. maybe look into online hangouts or hobbies that fit your interests, could help break the monotony.

Ok, so my favs of all time (pick your genre) are Sherlock (but only first two seasons), Six Feet Under (only ace representation there sucks, but otherwise brilliant), True Detective (it has three seasons, but each is a completely stand-alone series, with completely different vibe, if you don't like first, you can jump to the second or third), The Sopranos, Breaking Bad (but this one is heavy af), Westworld (two first seasons), Sharp Objects (this one, again quite heavy), Patrick Melrose (again, heavy af), The Walking Dead, Carnival (first season). I can drop at you some anime too, if you're into those.

I work early shifts, so I get home early, like 12:45. I usually freshen up, maybe do one chore each day, and then head out for a walk. I come back, watch some tv, make dinner, avoid the news, and am in bed around 7pm to do it all over again.
Thursdays are currently MY Fridays, so usually hit the local c***** for my weekly free offers and d******* meals

That's a really nice system you have for yourself! The Thursdays seem like good motivation to keep going.

Having a regular routine helps, I aim for 10,000 steps a day. I message with online friends; I try to socialize with in person friends like monthly or so. Meeting one friend next Saturday for lunch.
It's early days, but I am kind of dating someone new, we're getting to know each other better. We text a lot!
Focusing on any positives, working towards fitness and financial goals; utilizing vacation time...
Exploring your hobbies and interests

I'm also autistic. Work drains me really bad, and I have trouble functioning after all the overstimulation from my day.
For the last three days after getting home from work, I've been doing some short tasks like showering, getting dressed, checking the mail, and washing dishes. And then, I know this is unconventional, but I've been going right to bed. For me this means waking up at 3-3:30 am for my next day. This has been much better for me because after a night of sleep, I can function, whereas when I stay up after work, I can't function. I enjoy the dark mornings and spending more of my awake time not feeling like a zombie.

Thanks for sharing, This sounds really appealing. I struggle with sleeping early as I feel like I havent had enough "me time", But I could see myself liking this schedule.

> I struggle with sleeping early as I feel like I havent had enough "me time"
As a kid, I totally had this mindset. But now I think of my "me time" as being in the morning, and I go to bed early for the next day's "me time."

I think a lot of people feel like this; it just doesn't get talked about much.
After work, I'm usually pretty drained too. So most days it's just something simple like eating, watching something, or just scrolling and trying to switch off.
I've noticed it helps a bit when I don't pressure myself to have an interesting life evening . Sometimes, just having a cool routine is enough.

I'm 40, audhd, with some suicidal thoughts and anger issues, and working two jobs (one, sometimes two days off per week, on working days sometimes working 8 hours, sometimes literally whole day, up to 14 hours with breaks), and I learned not to pay attention to people. What matters is what makes me feel good, not whether it can be called 'interesting'. I have a tiny blog nobody reads on which I review fanfiction. It's the furthest from success as it can be, I get zero comments, barely any views, but I don't care. Sometimes, when I have a mood for that, I write my own fanfiction too, which is doing acceptably, but again, if I compared its success with popular fics I'd be depressed. Apart from that? Reading books and comicbooks, watching movies, series, and let's plays, playing games, going for walks with my LLMs, if I have money, going to restaurants (on my own, no need for company to enjoy that), if I really have plenty of time, going to museums or on trips (again on my own).

Thank you a ton for sharing.
It's great to hear your point of view and how you
de-stress, I'll try to practice focusing on what truly makes me happy and giving less energy to how i'm perceived. 😎

After work I usually just default to something low effort like a show or a bit of gaming because my brain is fried. I’ve stopped feeling guilty about it and it actually helps a lot

I'm 25F and in a similar position.
Considering commute, I'm usually home by 5:00pm - 6:00pm (I start at 6:30am - 7:00am depending on the schedule).
I do karate two nights a week but other than that, I eat, write (well, hold my pen and stare at a blank page is more realistic), doomscroll and go to sleep.
I WFH one day a week and see a psychologist on that day as well.
