Stability, man. Forget excess. Forget riches and vacations and houses. I just want to be able to pay my rent with enough left over for all the bills and to put a little in savings.

Fuzzy_Pie2227 Apr 2, 2026 +139
That is all I want. To be comfortable and not have to struggle to survive.
139
rosetinsel Apr 2, 2026 +74
It says a lot about the when stability sounds like some impossible fantasy, we all deserve the chance to just breathe
74
Fuzzy_Pie2227 Apr 2, 2026 +20
It really does... unfortunately it's only getting further away.

inquiry100 Apr 2, 2026 +9
And those who are squeezing the life out of the economy and causing such grief to millions are almost never identified or blamed. They say they are doing it all to help you, to reduce the suffering of the poor, and so on. But as an expert in economics, I see the truth. And so it continues and the victims are taught to ask for more of the same and think it is a solution.

Prestigious_Yak_9064 Apr 2, 2026 +3
tbh, we could have the best economy ever and i wouldn't trade just-enough style stability for a rich and fancy life feels alien to the culture

torcsandantlers Apr 2, 2026 +40
All the bills on auto-pay, I don't check my account when I want to stop at a restaurant, some friends to hang out with, and I'm f****** golden.
40
mostirreverent Apr 2, 2026 +4
I have this, but I didn't notice that an insurance company kept charging me for a while after I had canceled the policy. You still have to be vigilant.
4
Over-Singer4356 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Yes ofc
2
Historical_Tax6679 Apr 2, 2026 +17
Totally this. I am so tired of fighting to make ends meet.
17
ProbablyNotDrew Apr 2, 2026 +26
People who say "money can't buy happiness" don't know what it's like to wake up and immediately be in fight or flight mode. It's stressful (and, ironically, expensive) to be poor
26
mostirreverent Apr 2, 2026 +9
Money first, then all things will follow
9
OshoBaadu Apr 2, 2026 +4
Until you have enough money, money can buy you happiness. Most of us are in this boat, so, let's confidently say that money can buy happiness.
4
Rich_Assistance9030 Apr 3, 2026 +2
This.Being poor is incredibly time-consuming and mentally draining. You're constantly solving short-term crises instead of planning for the future. Money doesn't buy 'joy' directly, but it definitely buys the 'peace of mind' required to find it.
2
Training-Shallot-229 Apr 2, 2026 +4
Came to say this.🥂

Stability and affection.
211
Limp_Lawfulness_3456 Apr 2, 2026 +48
Hey cutie pie. You really are a cutie pie
48
Throwaway_Taken_6 Apr 2, 2026 +47
I'm almost ashamed of how warm your comment made me feel inside. It's sad in a way to get a an emotional need fulfilled by a listnook comment, but it felt good. I appreciate it.
47
lilyyyyyyyy123 Apr 2, 2026 +3
You deserve it.

djythjgnh Apr 2, 2026 +76
Financial independence. Edit: Security. A job that will always pay the right amount for me to survive. I just want a quiet and simple life.
76
Queasy_Estimate_8211 Apr 3, 2026 +2
That's a solid goal to have. So many people chase flashy lifestyles when really just having that stability is what matters most.
2
default_person_14818 Apr 2, 2026 +3
Yeah boutta say there's no such thing as financial independence. The only thing distinguishing a homeless man from an entrepreneur/businessman is their ability to convince others how much they are worth. It's interdependence that's worth much, specifically some sort of proof that other people benefit from their interdependence with you. Tldr get a good resume and a job that matters, the rest is just make-belief
3
Cassidy_Cloudchaser Apr 2, 2026 +68
At the moment? My mother's lung cancer to go away. The answer you actually wanted: To get a job and contribute enough to society so I can feel something like accomplished when I die.
68
masterpeabs Apr 2, 2026 +13
In the middle of my mom's 3rd cancer diagnosis, and it's not good. I'm right there with ya. Sending lots of good thoughts.

Vinny_Lam Apr 2, 2026 +5
Same. A quiet life with not too much going on is all I want.
5
twoiseight Apr 2, 2026 +83
Just to be able to have the sense that the world is more good than bad.
83
cremains_of_the_day Apr 2, 2026 +17
I still believe there is more good than bad in the world. The good people are just quieter about it, and I think that’s the problem. That and the fact that the bad people are so, so loud and needy
17
powderpoff6 Apr 2, 2026 +5
For what it’s worth I think most people are good. Those in power are not.
5

Might I recommend the new Pixar movie? 🎥 I was bawling and had no idea why. Hopper 🐸
3
CelebrationFar2804 Apr 2, 2026 +40
To not be depressed and suicidal.
40
LunchAdventurous604 Apr 2, 2026 +11
A lot of people are saying to be happy but you say you just don’t want to be depressed. I think people misjudge contentment. I finally have it and value it so highly. I wish you the best my friend and sprinkle contentment dust on you.
11
100Miler Apr 3, 2026 +2
I hope you reach this goal.
2
Weary-Avocado-6519 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Hi 👋🏽 coming from an internet stranger who struggles with these exact two things….im so happy you are still here, your existence is needed and you are worthy of living such an amazing life. Please be kind to yourself, speak highly of yourself. Love yourself. You have to shine the light on in your inner world. Who else is going to do it? Ending your life isn’t the answer. So please stay alive fren! Take each moment one second at a time. Stay in the present and reach out to anyone you feel safe with to talk about these things. You got this! 🤍 Things that helped me: Therapy Twenty one pilots The office Positive affirmations/journaling Revisiting old childhood movies/shows Healing my inner self The gym My dog Having a strong relationship with my higher power

Mental health issues to be GONE….trauma HEALED I just want to be able to enjoy my life without the c*** that goes on in my brain sometimes. Im happier than ive ever been, but i just want it to stop draining me so badly
75
LifelessBeing Apr 2, 2026 +5
This. I’m capable of happiness and peace but my mental health issues and trauma is like the boogeyman in the closet keeping me from achieving it and I’m actively allowing it to live there to ruin my life.
5
Kornii6 Apr 2, 2026 +2
Agreed.
2
ThisIsMyCouchAccount Apr 2, 2026 +2
In the big scheme of things my mental problems are minor. But they are still a problem and impact my life. Sometimes I feel trapped in my own body. This meat prison and its dumb chemicals.

26
BonesNHarmony Apr 3, 2026 +2
I have found that if we all took a moment to reflect. Our younger selves would be quite proud of what we have accomplished!
2
Queasy-Zebra-6345 Apr 3, 2026 +2
That's a solid goal honestly. Keeping it simple like that makes it feel more achievable.

Be financially independent and retire. I hate working and worrying about money. I try to save and invest almost everything so that it can happen one day.
9
Original_Remote_6838 Apr 2, 2026 +9
I don’t really care about being rich. Just having enough time and money to be able to do the things I want with my family. I haven’t been on more than just an overnight camping trip in years because I can’t afford to travel at all.
9
Pretty-Balance-Sheet Apr 2, 2026 +9
Spent my first 25 years as a kid figuring things out. Spent my second 25 as an adult working my ass off doing the most boring shit. In my next 25 I want to have the interesting life I've dreamed of and worked so hard for, with adventure and freedom.
9
InternationalSea4393 Apr 2, 2026 +2
You will live it. So what / where is your first adventure?
2

Happiness. No stress. Good friends. A healthy family.
16

A home and financial security.
7
BrnAgainGirl Apr 2, 2026 +3
A home is like wining the l****** nowadays .
3
DiligentMission6851 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Stability. Enough money to get by, and enough time to see my friends between work. I used to make 6 figured in IT right before the layoffs hit and the industry tanked. Now I am scrambling from job to job. On paper if my resume were just the jobs from the last two years, I would look incredibly untrustworthy and unstable. I just want my next forever job, but nothing I get offered matches my education or goals.
6
JessicasSpell Apr 2, 2026 +6
Joy, peace, connection. Everything else is just people chasing those in more complicated ways.
6
ReasonableRevenue218 Apr 2, 2026 +6
Sex, movies, TV, non- HFC food, snacks, some alcohol occasionally, weed, the abilities to have a guaranteed job for just the next decade or so and then to be finally done with needing to work, and a bit more travel, but nothing crazy.

I just want security. I want to make enough to pay the bills and feed my wife and son.
4
Arkavari1 Apr 2, 2026 +5
In this life, the only thing I can't give myself is the love, safety and security, and support a partner can give. So, it is the only thing of value to me in the human world.
5
No-Ant-1546 Apr 2, 2026 +5
Peace, less chaos. To watch my children hopefully grow up to be the adults I am raising them to be.
5
verdynius Apr 2, 2026 +5
I want my own house, preferably away from everyone. I don't want to hear strangers through the walls, I dont want to hear f****** children screaming in the stairways, I dont want to meet anyone that I did not invite to said house. Also, enough money so that none of my loved ones need to work a day more, unless we want to.
5
Forsaken_Middle3289 Apr 2, 2026 +5

For my fellow countrymen to be less stupid and evil. MAGA has ruined this country and possibly the planet depending on how much damage Trump does by the end(?) of his term. We will never care about each other as neighbors as long as half the country is as selfish and hateful as they are, and the republicans who control the rubes who vote for them know that. Billionaires have class consciousness, the rubes don't.

Honestly? I want a secure, reasonable home with decent storage and an office... if I'm deeply honest, I want a 3-bedroom townhouse with people who handle the lawn and outdoor shit for me... and at least space for 3 cars; mine, my partner's and at least 1 guest. I'd like it in a place with accessible amenities; parks, trails, forests, creative communities and nearby highways in important directions. I want to be as far away from "boater brain" lifestyles or petrol-brained toys like atvs or any of those things with engines. I really don't even care to know people in those communities. I'm much more into socializing with people in human crowds rather than fuel-injected materialism. I don't mind bringing my camera in and celebrating other people enjoying those things. I just don't care to know anything about engines. As far as partners? I'd love a creative, childfree, expressive and curiously intelligent partner who enjoys Ren Faires, conventions, dressing up and wearing costumes and cosplays for such events and may even just want to wear costumes in daily life. I'd like her to take charge of our social life and be extraverted and bit exibitionistic. I'm a photographer and I hope she's equally enthusiastic about lenses, lights, props, costumes and modeling and shooting. Creative reciprocity in mutual passion. From this framework... I just want to feel valued, appreciated, challenged and connected with people. I want to live a collaborative life. I want to make meaning out of moments and share them. I want to feel alive and experience more of the world than I'd ever thought to... and try to experience as much of it as I've ever wanted to. I want a reasonable, fuel-efficient and reliable vehicle like a Toyota Prius or at most, a small SUV like a Jeep if they ever get their fuel consumption down. I want to give more than I take and avoid fueling too much of capitalism or meaningless mechanical function like bare lawns, pesticides, social isolations and selfish consumer mentalities that create "the place to be" so they don't expand to see others. I don't want to build a resourced fortress. I want to make a safe place to leave that I don't mind staying in for a while. I want to share that space and mentality with someone I love and our shared community. I want to make love, get k****, feel connected and respected and stay in therapy to heal and feel secure in myself. I want to prioritize human connection over ownership of objects but I want to own whatever objects let me connect with people where they are at their most authentic.

Reality match the reality in my head with friends, co workers, tasks, how others view me vs viewing myself...there's such a social and mental disconnect between the two.

Love and financial stability. Just romantic love is enough. I have a girlfriend, and we’ve talked about how we don’t want kids. As for financial stability (not having kids helps with this), I don’t even wanna be rich. I want to be able to travel, fund my hobbies, pay off my student loans, and maybe have a small personal movie room in my home, but that’s about it. If I’m able to help my family pay off their debts, even better.

It's difficult to really choose one in the end. Even if you were to say wealth, security, stability, and happiness, there's always something else to think about later on. In the end it's trying to live a decent life, trying to live in happiness, trying to find purpose and more in your life that's worth living for. What you want most in life is always changing but what I want is the knowledge of finding ways to achieve all these things without pushing myself to the limits and knowing that each one is a possibility.

Basically comforts. Don’t have to be rich. Just be able to have vacations and a home that’s paid off.

To be a good person, to make up for my past, to live a life where I am not constantly overthinking, to not be replaying the past over and over in my head, to be calm and contempt and not in a rush, to be able to just sit down and not have a thought in my mind. I just want to be a good person that is able to love himself not just others, I am struggling with this but I have faith and hope that I'm on the right track to making a change

Just to enjoy it, which I've been pretty successful at. I was just as happy living in a van in my 20s as I am living in a nice house with my wife at 50. I don't need much, because I know that those things aren't the source of happiness :)

A house. I’m on SSDI and I’m 31. I don’t want to live in one of the big cities, I prefer rural or sub rural. Sadly, that does not seem to be the case.
