Nothing because no world leader will openly support it. It sets a bad precedent. The funny thing is that if it wasnt trump, Trump and his administration would fully support it.

I thought «the Waldo Moment» was the weakest episode at the time, but perhaps the one that best predicted our political climate today. Unfortunately.

Not executed. Murdered. You execute people according to your local laws. Ruler of Iran is not under US jurisdiction.
It's the same with Maduro. He wasn't "arrested". He was kidnapped. President of Venezuela is not under US jurisdiction.
That said both are/were dictators ruling against the free will of their nation and having more or less blood of their opponents on their hands.

While I dont disagree, I wonder if we are past that point. In the last 6 months alone, we have openly killed one nation's ruler, and kidnapped another. What precedent is still up untattered?
67
ChataboutgamesMar 31, 2026

We did it to nations outside the club. That's more or less it. We'd be having a very different conversation if we'd kidnapped the leadership of, like, Japan.
But even as nations don't like the USA going in and blowing shit up, both the nations in question are pariah states. No one is going to stick up for *Iran* against the USA.
17

Even without the Obama addendum, that's how trump would try to spin this request. "Iran is scared to negotiate with me."
Reagan did the same c*** after Iran released American hostages hours after he was sworn-in. The Reagan PR team spun it as Iran being scared of pissing off all-powerful President Jellybeans. Coincidentally, Iran received missiles from the Reagan administration a couple of years later as part of the Iran-Contra scandal.

Well that trend can change this year. Long post incoming. Set calendar reminders of when early voting starts and registration deadlines for your state, request PTO if you can't vote early/on election day, double check your voter registration, screenshot and share this with a friend, and hit the booths together!
**Verify you have not been removed from being a registered voter now, and set a reminder to check again in the months before any election in case you need to re-register. There are reports of people silently being removed from state voter rolls.**
Check your voter registration, upcoming registration and voting deadlines, and register to vote by searching for your state at:
Look up your upcoming local and statewide elections for the year:
Find information on your local election's candidates, their backgrounds, answers, and past actions, **and then print out your selections to take to the polls**:
Find individuals and entities that contribute to candidates:
**Information regarding the potential passing of the SAVE Act and similar statewide bills below**
**Note: REAL ID and Social Security Cards may not qualify for voting purposes if the SAVE Act and similar state bills pass without changes to their current form, as the above cards do not state citizenship status.**
So in preparation for a possible passing of the bill, it would be important to begin the process of obtaining a passport or birth certificate, certificate of naturalization and state ID that matches your current name, and a marriage certificate or divorce decree if your current name does not match. Links on how to request are below.
**It can take weeks to months to obtain these documents now, even without the system being backed up due to others jumping in on the process in the near future.**

I feel like we all know the answer to this: Trump would not resign. He wouldn't even resign if Russia said they were going to nuke us with their entire arsenal unless he steps down. His ego is way too massive.

To be clear though, a president should not resign based purely on the whims of another country.
If another country says "your president must resign on we will nuke you" the correct negotiation response is "Good luck, you're going to need it".

If no leader should be deposed in that way, then that even goes for the ones we don't like, and even for the ones who favor the deposing of other leaders.

> If no leader should be deposed in that way, then that even goes for the ones we don't like, and even for the ones who favor the deposing of other leaders.
This does not follow at two levels. First, it isn't inconsistent to say that a leader who is actively trying to remove leaders in other countries largely should lose that protection. Second, even if they are not, there really is a point where a leader should be removed at a certain point. The disagreement is where is that point.

I get this view that Iran somehow has found the upper hand in some sort of low stakes game with an idiot. It might seem that whoever is in control there is in control and has got a game plan. That’s unlikely to be what is happening- they are in an existential position. You have to put yourself in the shoes of the other side, they are playing all the cards they can play because that is what you do when you are in an actual war. You fight by all means necessary for the long game to play. They arnt sitting around rubbing their hands together thinking what a f*** uo we got them now. They also know that he wants a quick win and the only quick win is to drop a nuke. They also know that their partner might take the opportunity as well to knock the country back 75 years. They must be thinking how can we exert maximal pressure without getting nuked.
Iran would much prefer a normal president in my view, they have fared much better in the past. There are very smart people paid to get the mind of the other side and have some understanding - doubt any of that is filtering up.

I don’t know how but so many people seem to miss this very obvious thing: everyone involved with the pedo, the entire gop, the heritage foundation, putin, musk, thiel, even all this with Iran, is focused on literally tearing the US apart for the picking. The goal is very clearly not a strong successful nation after but EVERYTHING available to pick over like vultures at any cost.
And meanwhile half the planet is watching going “does he have a secret good game plan that we’re all just missing?!” No, no he doesn’t. The goal, openly stated, is the destruction of the entire nation. Clear as day.

I've not heard a single person from another country give voice to such a conjecture. All I've heard from them is "F*** Trump, and f*** Americans for not starting an open rebellion." America doesn't have allies anymore, our people no longer have friends elsewhere. We're past the point of no return, even if we [removed by listnook] the pedo in chief in a manner that incontrovertibly shows our contempt for him.
I'm not saying we *shouldn't* resolve the matter of Cheeto Mussolini and his regime, we damned well should. But we're global pariahs now, regardless.

As an European I partially agree. But I think past the point of no return is a crazy way to look at it. If you somehow manage to establish a proper democratic system you can begin to heal. But I know that's far away from where you are now.
There's been a number of fascist states that went beyond the point of no return and then got fixed. It certainly was not c****.
Spain, Germany, Italy have all been there. The apocalypse came and went and they somehow came back from it.

Trump has also given Iran so much power. Obviously trump doesnt see this, but if the US leaves the area, Iran is able to dictate terms of ships crossing the strait.
Trump has shown the world how much everything is interconnected, and how much everyone "needs" Iran to play nice. Iran did all of this WHILE NOT BEING THE AGRESSOR.
Iran wants Trump to keep being president because he 1) gives them power, 2) lowers USA standing in the world, 3) causes chaos in the global order/damages their enemies.
106
beefstakeMar 31, 2026

Exactly. Imagine how differently this plays out if Iran strikes first? Hitting US and Israeli air defense batteries and radars in the middle of negotiations?
Before they could even hit a single strategic target the entirety of NATO would likely be on-board to go shut down another "middle east troublemaker". When they closed the strait all the countries of the world would be lining up to help open it and secure energy supplies.
But because Israeli and US cowardice they sealed their own fate. If they wanted a war they should have declared one openly and got an international coalition organised to disarm Iran.

Absolutely nothing. The truth no one wants to admit is world leaders chose this outcome, even more than the american public. Every relevant nation could have chosen to refuse to bend to DT at all. They could have. No matter the Tariff, no matter anything. It would have ended his presidency within a month if no one was willing to bend at all. But none of them were willing to endure the temporary impacts of a true trade war, as he expected, and as they did. So they didnt. And it led here. Even today as you hear news stories about resistance, it doesnt matter, eventually they will fold in some way. And I suspect he will survive this. If prices stabilize, itll be forgotten.
Oh but back on topic, the world has no drive to truly pressure the US. They are unwilling to sacrifice.
