Or moments where they are planning calls and testing voices, almost like rehearsing a performance. You would get this eerie overlap between real life and the “movie” they think they are in. Even more interesting, you could still preserve the mystery. Maybe you do not see their face, or maybe their identity is fragmented, like they are losing themselves in the persona. By the end, the reveal is not just who they are, but whether there is anything left of them outside the mask. It would flip the whole formula. Instead of trying to survive the horror, you are trapped inside the mind creating it. Would that ruin what makes Scream fun, or make it even more unsettling?
