It didn't matter how hard you studied or worked the past few years, it's who you know that'll get you employed- and the connections by blood are the ones that'll work the best.

I went back to school in my thirties and graduated magna cum laude with two degrees (Political Science and Economics) I went to teach English in South Korea for six years afterwards. I didn't realize how horrible the job search would be afterwards. It took me three years to find a job: stock clerk in a medical warehouse for a major chain of hospitals.
I am so jaded that this is my life. Our team is made up mostly of temps who barely give a f***, management who expect us to make due to get an increase workload out with a minimal amount of people. I work every other weekend and holiday.
Yeah, I have a job, but I often ask how I ended up here in a place where I'm constantly frustrated and hate my life. I apply to jobs everyday internally and externally which I meet the qualifications for, and get either silence or no.
At this point, I wonder if it's even worth it anymore.

This is why I was so hard on my neice for taking psychology degrees. She had a similar experience in the job market and I suggested she go teach in Korea like you did.

Realising that time doesnt work in semesters, it just flows, there’s no change in the pace of how it goes by

At the beginning and end of the day its just you. If you want something others dont have, its not enough to work the same as them, you have to be months ahead strategically, and wake up earlier than them with a plan.
The degree is just a piece of paper that meets a requirement that someone places on a task. Those people are usually not qualified to know what is needed to do that job. That is power you can leverage in an interview, but you BETTER know what you are doing by the time you start.

That harsh realities aren't necessarily the ones that change you, or indeed the ones you need. That some people are decent. That you may be better than you think you are.
But growing takes time.
