What is a "socially acceptable" thing that you think is actually a massive red flag?

One socially acceptable behavior that’s actually a massive red flag is people constantly “agreeing” with everything you say or never challenging you.

The funny part about that tho is that, if you're anything like me, she's somehow right 90% of the time 🤣

dude YES this drives me absolutely insane. like i dated a guy who would literally twist everything around so he was never in teh wrong about anything ever. even stupid stuff like being late or forgetting plans - always had some elaborate excuse ready to go people who cant say sorry are basically telling you they think theyre perfect which is just delusional. massive red flag for sure because if they cant admit fault over small things imagine what happens when real problems come up

Sehr viel trinken und sich betrunken schlecht benehmen. Das wird irgendwie immer verziehen. Finde es selber aber furchtbar. Wenn man sich betrunken nicht benehmen kann, dann soll man nicht trinken.

Always talking down on other people especially if they’re not liked by others

Never apologizing and acting like everything is always someone else's fault.

It's not clear to me that the person you're replying to is a lesbian or even bi.

Putting photos or videos of your kids online I only see it on listnook, really, but if you wanna post a video of your kids doing something cool, blur their face out. Kids can’t consent to the online presence you’re forcing on them. I maintain that even for the little shits that act out & get posted. Imho, at MOST, people should make a group chat on whatever app and post their kids updates there. My rule of thumb is “if i wouldn’t have busted out the photo album for you in the 90s, you don’t need this information.” Aka: only family and close friends give a f***, so keep It in that circle. A trend I’d love to see is parents waiting until their kid turns 18 to give em all the funny or embarrassing videos and photos and let the now-adult kid post what they want. I know that’ll never happen; people are too self-centered and want immediate gratification. Let me dream though…

Agreed, I saw an article saying that a high percentage of child pictures online are also being trafficed on pedowebsite

My mom pierced my ears at Claire's when I was a baby. I'm allergic to most metal, even surgical steel. My ears now have permanent holes that don't close and they weep fluid a lot. I had massive issues with reactions to the metal and she basically let my ears close.

Never really listening to what other people is saying, but just waiting for the right moment to take over any conversation.

In the last year I have heard "so I asked chatgpt" or insert AI assistant regarding serious interpersonal situations. The amount of people filtering their life through AI before they interact with humans first has become uncomfortable in this uncanny valley kind of way.

Smoking cigarettes. I used to smoke now I hate the smell, taste, all of it.
3
Beneficial-One-7113 Apr 3, 2026 +5
I’m not sure if that’s a red flag tho! I mean it’s like hating Brussel sprouts, but because someone eats them that’s a red flag? Curious why you think smoking cigs is a red flag? (I haven’t smoked cigs, but I know people and family who have or do and they are chill or sweet people)

Weretoz Apr 3, 2026 +3
Some people think smokers are more likely to have an addictive personality, which can definitely be a red flag in practice. Addictions like this can and have ruined families in the long-term (speaking from personal experience in childhood. In that instance, however, it was alcohol.) Of course, that’s not to say that everybody who smokes or drinks regularly is a toxic person, but for me, it’s at least a yellow flag. The more trauma somebody has by having dealt with violent/toxic addicts, the more radicalized their opinion will become. For some, smokers are no biggie. For others, it’s a dealbreaker. It’s a very nuanced topic.

Beneficial-One-7113 Apr 3, 2026 +2
Yeah a yellow flag makes sense, I know some alcoholics, I don’t hate them for it but it’s something I worry about because I care about my friends, not sure if I’d make NEW friends with someone who’s an alcoholic.

SwarleymonLives Apr 3, 2026
You don't smell like brussel sprouts if you eat them. I can smell a habitual smoker from several feet away, whether or not they are smoking. Plus their breath is terrible and kissing them tastes gross.

Beneficial-One-7113 Apr 3, 2026
I mean, some people just don’t take care of themselves. Have some mints on you, bring some spray deodorant, only smoke outside, I think there should be a red flag for certain cig smokers instead of all of them. And brand! I worked at a gas station, some cigs smell worse than others, I guess it depends really on the entire situation. Edit: to add, I smoke weed, but I only smoke outside, wash my hands with lovely scented soap, and use mouthwash or brush after. So it’s not something I feel like I smell like all the time.

tjswish Apr 3, 2026 +1
I agree that some people have good hygiene etc but I grew up around smokers and can't stand the smell or that addiction it holds on people. It's literally a deal-breaker for a relationship for me. A friendship I can deal with if it's not in my face but even then it's not something I care for as a non-smoker. And in Australia it's >$50 a pack. That's over an hour of work to buy something that's literally killing you (twice minimum wage!)

SwarleymonLives Apr 3, 2026
You might not think you smell like it, but you do. You can't wash off the smell. It comes through your pores. And smoking makes your sense of smell worse, so you won't notice on others either.

Beneficial-One-7113 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Idk, I do what I can to not smell like it. And I’m not chain smoking pot. and I’ve asked sober friends about it and they just tell me I smell like lotion. I really feels like it depends.

Comfortable-Regret Apr 3, 2026
Brussel sprouts aren't addictive or toxic. Imo smoking shows a lack of care about your own health and susceptibility to addiction.

Beneficial-One-7113 Apr 3, 2026 +1
I don’t know, I mean I can’t judge someone for smoking cigs, I don’t know why they do it or what they are suppressing under it, and it’s not my business. If they smoke cigs and still work and take care of themselves and do what they need to do then I don’t think it should be a red flag. But maybe I’d say 10 packs a day is!

people who are weirdly proud of being "bad texters." like ok you saw my message and chose silence for three days but its "just who i am." i mean maybe work on that? thats not a personality trait thats just inconsiderate with main character energy. peak avoidance
2
DominicPalladino Apr 3, 2026 +2
Depression can do that too -- though they wouldn't be proclaiming they are proud of it.
2
ashes_sugar Apr 3, 2026 +1
exactly. depression makes you feel bad about the silence, these people treat it like a flex. the dedication to the bit is completely unhinged

Ganging up with ones friends against one person that one personal dislikes. Also showing up at someone's house uninvited because you had a beef with them at school.

Formal-Opening1046 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Not jerking off. Society acts like it’s this super virtuous thing to never touch yourself, but honestly it usually just means someone is repressing normal urges and probably has some weird issues built up.

Selling a used car or even a house without disclosing the problems you are aware of. Yeah I know, buyer beware, as is, due diligence, scam or get scammed... But even the respectable people I know brag about selling a car that needed major work, or selling a house with a messed up foundation.  Like geeze are we really willing to rob our neighbors as long as it's not explicitly illegal?

Sometimes it's harmless but I usually don't trust anyone that's overly charming. A little is fine, pleasant even, you know like a nice old lady or something. But when it's over the top it's usually a good sign they're manipulative and possibly insane lmao

This is only socially acceptable in kindergarten and nursing homes...

I'd say even in those places, it is a red flag.
