I had an ex boss who bragged about how by the time she was 35, she had worked 37 different jobs.
And as you might have guessed, she was a TERRIBLE boss and an even worse human.
She genuinely thought working that many jobs was a fun bit of personal trivia and that it made her quirky. In reality, she was just terrible to be around and didn't last more than 3-4 months at each job.

Well...her story is an interesting one. So yes, you're correct to think that way and eventually she wasn't able to land any jobs. Her and her boyfriend at the time ended up having to start their own business, which many suspected was because she needed a place that couldn't fire her.
And what's crazy is that it took off. But, the ending was tragic.
Turnover was insane. Her boyfriend was the only reason it was able to be successful. Then they broke up, and he left the company. Within 2 years she turned what was a $10M per-year online business into something that was nearly bankrupt. Because they had dumped everything into this, she made nothing off that $10M (paying herself $50k a year and no benefits), and when the business couldn't afford it's bills, she was forced to sell it to another company for literally the debt they owed.
The deal was that the new company would keep her for 2 years. By the end of year one, they let her go and paid her out the remainder year. She has yet to find another job and the business is back to being a thriving company.
So now she has nothing, and the business she built isn't even her anymore.
Some people are just shit humans and never learn.

Speaking in generalities, can you say what kind of online business it was?
44
KarateKid1984Apr 2, 2026
+87
Totally...and I'm going to be super vague.
It was a service based business where you would use her company to book your "event". They would do all the legwork for you, and you'd just show up. Very much like a travel planner, but not for travel. And much like a travel planner, they made their money off the back of the planning and not off the customers, meaning it was the same cost for customers to use them as it would be to do it on your own.
The same way Expedia or [Hotels.com](http://Hotels.com) gets money from the hotel and not by adding to the top line price, but instead of vacations this was for sports and sporting-like activities.

Icy-Builder5892Apr 2, 2026

Unfortunately, you have a lot of people who are drawn to working for events, but they are just not realistic about what that all entails. I worked in resorts for a long time. I was in school for hospitality management, and I actually had a focus on event management, because I thought I wanted to be an event planner. that was until I did my first internship. I actually quite enjoyed it, but it was NOT for me. For the right person, it's a lovely career, but that pretty much narrows it down to 99.99% of people that it is not a good fit.
And you certainly aren't a good fit if you're the kind of person to have 37 jobs by 35. I get strategically changing jobs to gain a better income, but that many jobs just tells me that the person can't see an end to anything. Definitely not the right person for event planning.
In the early 2000's, you had a lot of wedding shows like Say Yes to the Dress, or Four Weddings. So many people really did think that they wanted to work in weddings, and in the events world in general, all because of those shows. They did not have a realistic picture of what it's actually like. It's not glamorous. Yes, you do see a lot of very nice things, and it's fun to see the finished product after a lot of planning. It's fun to look at Pinterest.
But most of this stuff is actually very very stressful, and you have to be the kind of person to hold it together. Even if the family is self destructing, even if the flowers are late, even if the cake hasn't showed up, even if the weather and other things are not panning out - you have to be the one to diffuse the situation and keep everyone calm and happy. In a wedding environment, I can't do it.

I do have to say, as a "life experiences" kinda guy, working a lot of jobs is definitely something I've considered just for the hell of it so I do think it's kinda cool just because of how much you can learn even from a short amount of time at any job; and knowledge is cool. Although this is only true if the person is choosing to come and go, and not just a difficult a****** to work with. That's when it becomes uncool, and bragging makes it uncool as well.

Those kinds of people end up in leadership. In many US companies, management roles are assigned based on performance without any leadership qualifications. They then often are salaried so that they can be worked to death 60 hours a week, which is often a tacit requirement, if not outright codified in their contracts.
Those same people then fail to understand or outright condescend employees who just want to work 8 hours and go home.
Work-life balance was and will never be taken seriously in the US at least.

I don’t mind people bragging about lack of higher education if they are successful. I’m a high school teacher and the push for every kid to go on and do college is great for some kids, terrible for others. I use my husband as an example with kids who are sort of lost in figuring out what to do post high school and traditional schooling just doesn’t work as well with their brains. He dropped out his senior year and did his GED. Found his way into construction management, is crazy smart, but just didn’t dig traditional school (typical ADHD stuff, as I teacher I admit our public school system does not accommodate well for that). Now makes 2.5x my salary and many of our friends who went to college and are in various fields. He doesn’t brag about it, but I think it’s good for people to know there are plenty of options that will lead you to success beyond formal education.

I know a LOT of people who don't read books. In fact I would say the majority of the people I know do not consider reading to be a hobby, and read one or fewer books per year.
But all of them would respond similarly if asked what they have read lately or if they enjoy reading. They would look a bit sheepish, admit that they don't read very much, and say something like "But I keep meaning to get back into it."
And that's fine. Reading as a hobby isn't for everyone. In the digital age, it takes a genuine passion and perhaps even some pre-existing childhood exposure to long books to have the desire and attention span to read with any degree of regularity.
But don't boast about hating reading or never doing it. As you implied, it just makes a person look willfully ignorant and/or dumb. These days I just don't engage, but there was a time when any time someone would brag about not reading books I would say "Oh, we can defintiely tell."

Costco parking spots are the largest you will find, if you can't handle them, then your dumpster with wheels is useless.

I actually was very fortunate to not have that problem. It also meant I never missed school. Win lose I guess.

There was a kid who received a reward in my grade for never missing a single day in elementary school.
This kid was always ground zero for getting the rest of us sick

As the parent of an immunocompromised kid, I'd go one step further and say that perfect attendance awards should be abolished bc they contribute to endangering kids with disabilities and schools are required by law to provide ADA accessible schools and follow the IDEA (Individuals with disabilities in education act) - a civil rights law for kids with disabilities.
Imagine if kids got awards for bringing knives to school. Actually a student with a knife would be safer for my child than a student with the flu. My child was in the ICU twice with the flu, both times contracted at school most likely from a student already sick, most likely from a student or staff member that was unvaccinated.
My kid got a stint in the ICU and risked dying. Typhoid Mary got an award.

"I don't have time to sugar coat things. I just tell it like it is. I'm a straight talker, sorry if that bothers you". No, you're rude and can't be bothered to try developing some tact. I usually assume these people aren't bright enough to be tactful or diplomatic, just low-horizon, low effort, and low IQ.

Blind love for Trump without the ability to criticize literally anything he does. You can love and support a public figure while also questioning certain things or expressing anger at certain things they do… the blind cult like unconditional love he gets from his supporters creeps me out.

Womanizing.
I’ve known a few guys who loved to talk about how many hundreds of women they’ve slept with. I’m not here to s*** shame anyone, but if you’re bragging about how many people you’ve slept with like you’re showing off your Pokémon card collection, that indicates to me that you don’t really have a healthy relationship with intimacy or your self esteem.

”Owning the libs.” I’ve spent a decade watching people brag about owning the libs, unaware that it only signals that they’ve surrendered all independent thought and are letting others lead them around by the nose.
If FOX News said stabbing themselves with a fork would own the libs, they’d believe it and gleefully oblige.
Even now, after they voted for Trump to own the shit out of the libs and have since learned that they’ve been played, there are still people wandering through the wasteland in search of some imaginary lib to own, because it’s the only way they can feel alive.

How early you wake up. Who cares, my father-in-law always asks me what time I woke up in the morning whenever we go to visit, usually if I'm on vacation or off work I wake up a bit later than when it's not a day off, but he feels the need to try to rub it in my face that he woke up at 4 am. What do I care what a mostly bedridden, retired, 70 year old man wakes up in the morning? If you go to bed a 7 in the evening of course you're going to wake up early! I generally go to bed around 2am and wake up around 9am, it's not a contest James!!

Whenever someone brags about preferring the less popular or more difficult option of a thing, just because it is less popular/more difficult
"I drink my coffee black" or "I don't drink fruity cocktails, just straight whiskey" or "I only play games on the highest difficulty"
Genuinely preferring those things is not embarrassing, but bragging about it and positioning yourself as "better than" because you do, is.

My neighbors brag about being the opposite of woke. He recently pulled his hotrod project from a local shop because the owners publicly support their gay son.
Hes literally bragging to everyone how he is sticking it to "woke libs" but that mechanic is a Trump supporter who also happens to love and cherish his son.
Meanwhile my neighbor has lost thousands because of having to pay up for the unfinished work and the nearest custom shop that can handle his needs is over an hr away in ATL lol.

I’m old. But I never cease to be amazed how people seem to brag about their psychiatric (usually self-) diagnoses or “neurodivergent” status. They seem to need a get out of jail free card with this. When I was young no one spoke of this. My sister has a 25yo son who is “on the spectrum.” He reminds her of that from his childhood bedroom, where he stays most of the time having taken no steps to improve his situation. She is resigned to the idea that he will never leave. None of this to say that there aren’t folks who require some accommodation. But to hear them talk it seems there are waaaaay more of them than there were 50 years ago.

I live in a very hunting-centric area but the thing that drives me crazy is how they make it their whole identity. Every conversation somehow devolves into their latest hunting experience. They also like to broadcast it loudly with their wardrobe off Realtree garments and Vortex accessories. It’s almost a warning to avoid that person at gatherings.
5
Virtual_Ad748Apr 2, 2026

Eh, it depends. Most hunters I know try to get one big buck that’ll feed the family & it does take skill/dedication. They’re proud & want to show it off.
But I agree with the people who hunt for sport & not for food. I especially dislike the beaver hunters we have where I live. But I grew up eating deer meat & it’s actually a lot more humanely sourced than the meat at the grocery store.
