the silence of a forest right after it snows, it is the only time the world actually feels quiet.

yonk069 Mar 27, 2026 +2
I miss that about the snow
2
RebekkaKat1990 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I don’t know about a forest but I remember when I was a kid and winter came around how quiet my aunt’s dairy farm would get, and my cousins and I would go play in the snow at night. Peaceful. Now I just hate when it snows because I hate driving in it lol

hippocampus237 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Bamboo forest made a big impression on me.
1
Mountain_Alps_7601 Mar 28, 2026 +1
it’s wild how snow just absorbs every sound, feels like the world hit pause for a moment

True, passionate love.

Yes yes yes!!!

Fit_General_4516 Mar 27, 2026 +13
Watching the sunrise when you didn’t stay up for it — you woke up for it. No noise, no rush, just that quiet moment where the world feels like it hasn’t started asking anything from you yet.
13
GoldOperation1542 Mar 27, 2026 +1
Oh yes!!!

Every 3 months with my wife! It’s so wonderful to talk so openly and love so passionately. We’ve always had a good marriage, 15 years strong, but adding these intimacy sessions has made our connection even deeper.

Losing your religion: Being persuaded to change your views by someone you don't even like.
4
Knowledge_Regret Mar 27, 2026 +2
I'll add being in the corner and in the spotlight too.

Soooooo Scientology by Tom Cruise.
1
ace_philosopher_949 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Or more generally: changing your mind. Can involve changing one religion for another, or refining religious beliefs, or going from atheist to theistic, etc
1
Objective-Worker9250 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Generally, the expression "changing your mind" does not necessarily include the emotional barriers to being influenced by a dislikable second party, and the hard work that goes with that on a non-rational basis. How willing are you to engage with someone with, for example, boorish behavior, smells bad, parrots you mercilessly, etc?
1
ace_philosopher_949 Mar 28, 2026 +1
I’m sort of lost. Dumb it down for me.

Peace of mind. It’s rare but worth everything.

A night in jail.
3
Knowledge_Regret Mar 27, 2026 +1
I'm curious, why?
1
Sneezy6510 Mar 27, 2026 +1
It will make you appreciate your life. We take a lot of things for granted.
1
Knowledge_Regret Mar 28, 2026 +1
I agree with you on the second part, personally I feel there are better ways to achieve that mindset. Volunteering for example, you get the experience and exposure, but keep a clean criminal record.
1
Sneezy6510 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Of course I don’t think people should do something that makes them stay a night in jail. But it changed my life. It was only a few weeks ago too.

A punch in the face. Youll be braver for it and mostly its never as bad as you might think
2
Polish_Shamrock Mar 28, 2026 +1
I understand what you mean, the build up and expectation is so much worse than the reality, for me personally. But many people have died or suffered life changing injuries aswell so it's not a constant rule.

I was lucky to be in the path of totality for one a few years ago and I actually noticed the birds and insects were super confused. It was a trip.

Earning money, preferably literally while you are sleeping, from something that didn't took you a lot effort. I believe this could free you from thinking you're bound to your job.

Working in service/hospitality. Retail, fast food, hotels. Pick one, spend a year, and go on about your life understanding how to treat people who work in the industry. Oh; if you're terminated, your year restarts.

A counterintuitive one, considering most of the examples already given are largely positive: having a really shitty boss. I had the worst boss in my mid-20s and it made me resilient, able to remain calm and focused under pressure, and confident to call out intolerable behaviour or unreasonable demands – at work and outside.

Shooting the dice at a craps table and holding the dice for almost an hour. Craps players know how cool that is. My son was with me, and we paid for his next semester of college that night. The roll was so good that total strangers were making $100 bets for me. It was 6 years ago, and he will still look at me and throw a line that was used that night. No one else understands it, but I do.
