What is something you wish you knew more about when you were younger?

The "compound interest" of small habits. When you’re young, you think "big breaks" or "massive life changes" are what define your future. It’s actually the boring stuff. Reading 10 pages a day, walking for 20 minutes, or saving $50 a month doesn't feel like it’s doing anything in the moment. But five years later, those tiny, "insignificant" choices turn into an unshakeable foundation. I wish I knew that **consistency beats intensity** every single time.

The tortoise and hare is a parable as old as time. And we still procrastinate stupidly easy things.

Yep! And don’t try to make too many changes at once or else you’ll burn out quickly and feel like a failure. Lol guess how I found that out???

How addictive alcohol really is and the slippery slide of how easy it can be used as a social lubricant when uncomfortable

I mean, I kind of wish more people would talk about it in a way that doesn't glamorize it. It always starts out as “just to relax” or “just to fit in,” and then suddenly it becomes the thing you do every time things feel awkward. I have seen people slowly develop a dependence on it without even realizing it. Learning to deal with awkwardness without something to numb it is such an underrated skill.

Honestly this might be a double unpopular opinion but weed too!! Even in high school I knew so many people who woke up and toked then couldn’t even get through the entire day without smoking again. And ofc they’ll protest that weed isn’t addictive, and you can’t overdose from it 🙄. Even like vapes! I used to be hard on the darts but went to vapes, either way nicotine relaxes your system too. Learning how to deal with being u comfortable situations is lowk becoming a lost skill

I wish I knew how much peace comes from boring things. Loud friends, messier nights, faster highs. Thought that meant being alive. Now? The best part of my day is when my kitchen’s clean, the phone’s charging, and no one needs anything from me.

How to manage my emotions especially in a conversation when I’m trying to advocate for myself but feeling unsupported.

Sounds a bit cynical maybe .. but how performative alot of the social stuff amongst peers from age 15-25 is .. im 31 now and basically nothing about "who is cool and popular and how to I come across to people I wont have relationships with long term" mattered at all in the end... But f*** people cared alot about how they come across during that time and that clearly faded out a bit during the final part of the twenties

Isn't it crazy how things change as you get older in that aspect?

Purple_Media_8942 Mar 28, 2026 +2
yeah - my "social brain" is so different now that 15-25 yo me would not be able to believe it like I dont care much about getting drunk at parties with people my age now and fuuuuck that was like the funnest thing ever then .. feel like its the same with most people at some when close to 30 or over:) but idk really just my general feeling from getting older and observing friends and people
2
Background_Sun8023 Mar 28, 2026 +2
I feel the exact same way. I still know people that never got out of that phase of life and still go party all the time. 30s and 40s
2
Purple_Media_8942 Mar 28, 2026 +2
im 31 now .. its cool to go to a party and get drunk once in a while of course:) but yeah the thought of turning 40 and still living for the weekend and having a party lifestyle and just doing life like that makes me feel sad a little lol could be they are having fun but feel for them if they are just stuck in that or something like that .. holy f*** I dont wanna get drunk at bars and parties and talking to people I wont meet again ever and hoping for a one-night stand at 40 wtf haha

To be fair, I’m 21, my dad is 57 now and a lot of his life is going to the bar to hang out with his friends. They have a 4pm happy hour, which on weekends he never misses. He deserves it though. He came from poverty, even sold drugs (allegedly) at one point in his life to support his mom (my Nana lmao). He wasn’t always the best dad but he spent his life working his ass off so my brothers and I have been able to go to university/have somewhere safe to fall back to. If they’re pervy, I’ll definitely judge them, and believe you me there’s FAR too many pervy dudes at the bars. But I won’t ever judge older men just for hanging out

I feel you for sure dosent sound like that he is chasing the bar/party social lifestyle of a young person either If he is having a pint with his friends and bonding with real friends and stuff like that its something very different for sure then what I was talking about and if he doesnt use alcohol in an alcoholic kind of way thats a detriment to himself or people around them then its his free choice and (maybe a fine one too) to enjoy some alcohol with friends and enjoy life and fun like that:) have a family member who has struggled alot with alcoholism - but its not alcohol thats the problem and some people clearly can do it responsibly and in a way that it would be wrong to shame or anything like that something like that would be my take lol:)
1
Accomplished_West512 Mar 28, 2026 +1
Ohhh my bad maybe I completely read your comment wrong! No he doesn’t chase the young person social life so much anymore haha! He used to be a bit mean with alcohol but since I graduated he’s been so much better!!
1
Purple_Media_8942 Mar 28, 2026 +1
happy to hear:) yeah good he doesn't struggle with alcohol even if he did a little bit for a while once maybe all the best to you!

I regret not reading the new testament sooner. I really messed up when I was younger. I wish I could have been that friend I so wanted of others sooner.

Same. Growing up, I knew three things about money: It's important, there will be arguments about it, and there won't be any more info after that. I feel you.

how to protect yourself in professional situations. at my first job my boss verbally promised me things that never happened and i had zero proof. now i record every important work conversation with speakwise ai (iOS app) and keep everything documented. younger me just trusted people and it cost me a promotion and a raise i was promised

Wish I knew that the "family" I was having cookouts with would NOT be following me into my 30's because they are all bad people. Wish I knew that eventually I will find peace and happiness in my mid 30's in a new state and new city and my mom will need me more than ever. When I was in my 20's and 30's it's going to be just me, my little elderly disabled mother and tiny dog against the world. It's gonna be EXTREMELY trying and exhausting but I'm gonna rock that shit though!<3 Wish I had a heads up first though lol

nutsandboltstimestwo Mar 28, 2026 +1
In a nutshell you have to reliably pay back any loan you take (credit card, car loan, etc) Experian, Transunion, and Equifax track your payment history and whether or not you finish paying off those accounts. Your credit score is also based on how many accounts you have open at any given time, and whether or not you have let an account default to collections. Your overall credit score is based on whatever info those three agencies have compiled, based on your payment habits. Contact any of those agencies and you are entitled to an annual credit report from all three for free. Your credit score should be included in that and it will have an explanation of your score. You aren't penalized for pulling your own report. As for how this number is calculated? I'm not sure anyone but the algorithm knows.

How to handle an encounter with a really cool person. We seem to plan only for self defense. The risk of missing out on a great friendship is far worse than losing a fight.

Being gay I thought I was ace because I knew I wasn't attracted to the boys my age but due to religious upbringing didn't realize I was attracted to girls, just thought every girl got butterflies when a pretty girl walked by.
