Having potential but not using it

Man, that one cuts deep. I used to lie awake thinking about all the stuff I could've done differently in the Air Force, but at some point you gotta make peace with where you are now and just focus on tomorrow.

No regrets. We strive to make a better tomorrow

On your death bed you won’t think to you yourself did “Did I meet my potential? How many achievements do I have?” You’ll think about the people you were able to bond with, relationships you made, and the good times you shared with others. So all you can do is try your best to reach your potential but try not fret too much about it :)

By working overtime?

makeitcool Apr 3, 2026 +1
Right there with you. I think it often goes hand in hand with thinking I have potential but finding out I'm painfully mediocre.

My brain deciding that 2 AM is the perfect time to replay every awkward thing I’ve ever said since 2009.

Was it your best or worst year?

Phone. It's always the phone

Right now? It's having too many projects and aspirations at once while watching each of them systematically failing. Good stuff.

The_Real_Cloth_ Apr 3, 2026 +2
Same... It's frustrating to watch people build big beautiful mountains when all I can build is a field of small, lumpy hills.
2
Low-Departure4434 Apr 3, 2026 +1
Put those hills together, maybe you can make your own mountain. I know, easier said than done, but some peoe dont even begin to try at all. Every mountain started as a small lump.

Being busy is all that we want
1
Low-Departure4434 Apr 3, 2026 +1
I think you're right, but more so we like it when being busy has some value.

Someone I knew took their life recently. Just really unexpected as well so it’s been hard to sleep lately.
3
Snackmearmor Apr 3, 2026 +3
I can feel it. I'm so sorry about that.
3
makeitcool Apr 3, 2026 +3
I'm so sorry. Hope it gets better each day, even just bit by bit.

I lost my best friend to suicide seven years ago. You've probably heard people say "it gets easier over time". That's not wrong, but it's also not really helpful *in the moment". What helped me in the immediate aftermath was distracting myself. I threw myself into projects at work, probably worked a couple 80+ hour weeks, because it allowed me to focus my brain on something other than my loss. I'm very sorry for your loss, I hope you're able to find something to take your mind off it until the pain is less fresh.

FirstBallotBaby Apr 3, 2026 +1
Thanks. I’m sorry about your friend.

What is happening with our ability to think for ourselves if we only offload to ai?
2
Snackmearmor Apr 3, 2026 +2
Making work easier. Maybe
2
Low-Departure4434 Apr 3, 2026 +1
It is going through a fundamental shift. Our writing skill has a society will inevitably atrophy, but we gained something far more efficient and precise, regardless of the chaotic nature of some. The same can be said for the gains of Ai, we simply have to targeted about the side of history we want to be on. Precise? Or chaotic.

For some reason every time I lay down my heart does this weird freaky thing and i think my bed being broken isint helping? Hoping I can afford a doctor soon about that lol im probably fine though.
2
Arramattic Apr 3, 2026 +2
Maybe worth buying a 2nd hand heart monitoring watch - like a fitbit? Then you can show trends to your Dr.

I’m a waiter, just want to say sorry If I forgot to bring your mayonaise for diner when you asked. Know that I will think about it when I lay in my bed after the shift. This keeps me awake. 😩

That weird shadow beside the door. Probably just my jacket hanging. I won't confirm it, obviously.

General anxiety stuff with college admissions. The cycle was brutal on me. I only for into one school that I really wanted to get into, and the aid they sent me wasnt enough for me to afford attending. It’s a bunch of thoughts, doubts, and regrets over whether Im as capable as I thought I was and if the sacrifices I made earlier in life really had any meaning at all to them. Not a fun time. I thought this process would be exciting, not a wave of disappointment.

The after-dinner nap I took earlier. I'd say it was dumb, except it's probably more accurate to say that the nap took me. I'm getting over an infection and sleep is just kind of happening when it happens at the moment. Unfortunately, now is not one of those moments.

Wake up around 3:30 because the cat wants to be fed. Don’t really go back to sleep because he needs a pill at 5 and another at 5:30. Sometimes I sleep after that and sometimes I don’t. It’s 4:47. Just waiting.

Growing old. I was so sure I'd die before I hit 30. I turn 38 this summer. I have a pretty good life all things considered, despite being clinically depressed, but I sometimes think preparing for dying of old age or illnesses, accidents, etc. that the elderly are vulnerable to., and I find myself hoping something will take me out early.
