Older strangers as well as older family members said this thing to me when I was young: “enjoy it, it gets worse.” They were both right.

Um…. That’s literally just generational negativity LOL and also manifesting it. Like, you have no idea how GOOD life can get as you get older. I know some ppl that got out of some abusive horrendous things and thrive later in life. I stopped eating gluten and stopped having severe pain and horrible “unknown” health conditions bc of this. I feel healthier at 30 than I do at 17. 17 BRO. And I’m only gonna get better and feel happier. Life’s not worth it unless it gets better in some way. Highlight that.

I wasn’t talking about happiness, just about the physical fact that your body endures a lot of “damage” as you get older and for some people that turns out pretty bad. (Depending on the jobs they did, but age comes with certain physical disadvantages as you get older)

Oh Jesus hahaha well say that then! Also, a lot of the times you can feel just as good as when you were young. Esp if you didn’t feel good then

Yeah I was talking about that aspect to be honest, maybe I should have made that more clear 😂 when it comes to happiness/emotional stability it think that mostly improves while getting older by the way. (That’s what I hear mostly)

Playing devils advocate. But not always better emotionally/mentally! Lol But more importantly, have a hopeful, positive mindset that it will be great. It’s crucial. Note: I’ve lived an INCREDIBLY traumatic and unfortunate life lol and I’m not happy or at peace by any means. But I hope (and work) everyday I do, and that in itself, makes life good.

I feel you, I’ve been pessimistic and melancholic all my life, I’ve had my share of crazy personal problems since then as well… It’s crazy that I already saw the glass half empty even before I encountered misery. Changing your mindset helps for a lot of people, I’m sure. But for some weird reason I’ve always been slightly unhappy and I can’t say why. I’ve had that feeling before experiencing my first negative situation in life… I wish I could change that mindset but it’s been that way all my life and I can’t explain it. It bothers me.

This is perfectly understood. My apologies for jumping into conclusions.

My sentiments as well, I feel that it should get better. Mindset also plays a vital role. To more positivity.

Even if all in your life goes well you’ll still experience your body taking “damage” as you get older

This has changed the perspective for me. Thank you for the clarification.

Yeah like I stated in my previous response, most older people I know become more emotionally stable/happier as they get older. It’s just the physical fact that bothers them mostly, age takes a toll on your body unfortunately

If I were in a rush, I would’ve done it yesterday. Completely changed how I interacted with people when I was doing anything from shopping to driving

This resonates, especially when driving in my country. I really appreciate the reminder.

An older man once bumped his shopping cart against mine, then said this. It’s really stuck with me since then to remember to take a beat and realize if I’m actually rushing to be anywhere, or if I’m just going through the motions but quickly

“No one is thinking about you as much as you think they are,” instantly made life feel lighter and less stressful.
2
Jep2026 Mar 30, 2026 +1
Absolutely! I wish more people got to understand this. It frees you of other peoples validations and presumed judgements. Thank you for sharing.

Dont be a deer in head lights. Be a dear and a light for all who may be heading down a dark path.

A homeless man once told me 'don't take life so seriously, nobody gets out alive anyway.' Dude was dropping Stoic philosophy and didn't even know it
2
Jep2026 Mar 30, 2026 +1
I concur. That's why for me, being able to laugh with and at life is extremely important.

"Stop to have a rest, but never give up"
2
Jep2026 Mar 30, 2026 +1
This should be preached on the mountain tops. Many people don't know how to rest. Really appreciate your sharing.

How I wish I had this information in my 20s, my life would be so much different. We move, regardless.

One thing that I kept on my mind from a stranger is "Go where you’re wanted, not where you’re tolerated."

Drops 🎤! The truth. Especially in relationships.

one random thing a stranger told me that stuck was “don’t wait until you feel ready, you’ll be waiting forever” didn’t think much of it at the time but it actually makes sense. most of the time you just figure things out as you go, and waiting for the perfect moment just slows you down

Jep2026 Mar 30, 2026 +1
This is deep! It's totally relatable. I recently had to do something that perfectly fits this. Thank you so much for sharing.

A stranger once told me “Don’t compare your chapter one to someone else’s chapter ten” It stuck with me and changed how I view my own progress

This! Gold! I truly needed this today. Thank you.
