I’ll throw an honorable mention to: True Detective - Who Goes There (season 1 - episode 4) That single uninterrupted six-minute take during the raid absolutely builds and builds tension.

There’s another episode of TD that is legendary for other reasons.

Oh man, just back-to-back-to-back hilarity. “I just paid the man a pound, not to use the toilet” — “I’m disabled!” — “noooo…that’s not my hand” — Roy getting lifted on/off the bus — Jen seeing Roy wheeled in, needs a drink, turns around, Moss: “yes miss”

Yep, very glad to see this one towards the top. This episode is just like pure comedy. It’s so good from beginning to end. Edit: the scene where Jen asks Roy how he got disabled and then turns to get him a drink only to find Moss behind the bar is one of the single best choreographed jokes.

I just came to the realization that my favorite episode is "A Milhouse Divided". Kirk drawing dignity, Can I borrow a Feeling, homer coming home to the frozen hotdogs, and the actual shenanigans are one thing. But I think it is the single funniest episode for Homer lines, especially those that are not actually at his expense. Everyone loves "I sleep in a big bed with my wife" but the episode is FULL of those one liners. My favorite is when he's at Kirk's apartment and Kirk mentions the bathroom and homer says "you mean the one down the hall?"

Band of Brothers. Episode 6 Bastogne

pinkkittenfur Apr 2, 2026 +260
Why We Fight gives Bastogne a run for its money
260
Shas_Erra Apr 2, 2026 +102
Why we fight has all the hard truths about the war, but Bastogne is where the heart breaks. There are some seriously big names that get lost in those trees
102
CaulPhoto Apr 2, 2026 +56
That one is The Breaking Point, next episode (losing Toye, gonorrhea, muck, penkala, hoobler). Bastogne is Eugene the medic's episode.
56
Captainfreshness Apr 2, 2026 +47
I once interviewed Private Bradford Freeman when I was working for my town’s newspaper. He said that the Eugene psychic thing was no joke. He was often running toward the wounded BEFORE they were wounded.
47
Astrolologer Apr 2, 2026 +39
That scene where Liebgott has to tell the prisoners to go back to their hovels broke me.
39
DefinitelyNotRyanH Apr 2, 2026 +59
You can pick any episode of BoB. In my (meaningless) opinion, Band of Brothers is the greatest show ever. I have rewatched at least a dozen times, it is remarkably well done. Perfectly cast, amazing scenery & locations, it is a heartbreaking story.

So many good Twilight Zone episodes!
47
frieswelldone Apr 2, 2026 +22
Agreed! "Nick of Time", "Will the Real Martian Please Stand Up?", "Living Doll", "It's a Good Life", and "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" are some of the best episodes of TV out there.
22

The red wedding was something!
799
Lazlow_Vrock Apr 2, 2026 +402
It's so easy to forget that Game of Thrones was consistently some of the best television we've ever seen because of how negatively it is remembered over how poorly it ended.
402
EricMory Apr 2, 2026 +97
Agreed. People forget that GoT effectively changed how TV is made. For years so many tv shows marketed themselves as “the next game of thrones”

A fistful of paintballs - Community Incredible writing, seamless popculture references. Just pure art.

flcinusa Apr 2, 2026 +62
The counterpoint to that episode is DS9s "Hard Time" where O'Brien lives a 20 year solitary prison sentence in a few hours

House M.D house's head and wilsons heart. Best season finale ever. Soul crushing and brilliantly filmed. Won Emmys etc

vikadust Apr 2, 2026 +815
gotta go with "The Pine Barrens" from The Sopranos, it’s pure genius. the mix of humor and tension is just top tier.
815
SnarkDolphin Apr 2, 2026 +216
His house looked like shit.
216
YounomsayinMawfk Apr 2, 2026 +65
Not just Paulie/Chrissy's shenanigans but also Tony's. He had a London broil thrown at him by his goomah! To me, that was the funniest scene in that episode.
65
Hormel_Chavez Apr 2, 2026 +72
It's Tony losing his shit when Bobby shows up in full camo for me
72
BadeArse Apr 2, 2026 +28
I think this might be the one they mentioned on the podcast… to make Tony genuinely laugh, Bobby apparently wore a massive strap on when he came around the corner.

Tony and Carmella's blowout fight in the Season 4 finale is some of the best acting ever on TV though.
69
ilikebagels29 Apr 2, 2026 +39
Whitecaps? Was going to mention that one too.
39
parwa Apr 2, 2026 +15
Probably the best single scene in the show.
15
Bearit99 Apr 2, 2026 +518
“Where do you think you are?” Episode of Scrubs is probably my favorite. You’ll laugh and cry.
518
weed_blazepot Apr 2, 2026 +137
>You’ll laugh and cry. That's Scrubs in a nutshell. 23 minutes of TV. 19 for comedy, 4 to kick you in the teeth at the end.

Last episode of MASH. I know I'm dating myself
213
paddyo Apr 2, 2026 +52
It’s far from my favourite episode (probably “deal me out”). But holy shit, after a couple of iffy seasons boy did they stick the landing. And for me overall still the best sitcom of all time.
52
TheRealCeeBeeGee Apr 2, 2026 +355
Out of gas, Firefly.
355
paladingl Apr 2, 2026 +46
Easily my favorite episode in the series. The ending, where you finally see what ship Mal had been looking at while the salesman prattled on, was absolutely perfect.
46
Beautiful_Donut6412 Apr 2, 2026 +152
Probably the All in the Family episode where Sammy Davis Jr kisses Archie Bunker.
152
HairyCherryFairy Apr 2, 2026 +1002
Either “Ozymandias” or “Saul Gone”
1002
Loggerdon Apr 2, 2026 +253
Ozymandias got special permission to wait until 17 minutes in to show the title sequence in order to maintain the drama.
253
HairyCherryFairy Apr 2, 2026 +67
That’s always one of my favorite details
67
AustinRiversDaGod Apr 2, 2026 +40
Crawl Space is still my favorite Breaking Bad episode and is the reason I still find Season 4 to be better than Season 5

In the Pale Moonlight - Deep Space Nine
138
merryman1 Apr 2, 2026 +22
Also *Its Only A Paper Moon*. That shit goes *way* too hard for casual evening broadcast TV. Enjoying dinner with your family and *bang* one of the most gut wrenching dives into combat PTSD in recent history involving a child soldier who if you've been a fan of the show you've been following since he was a little boy.

Luck of the Fryrish for me, the one about Fry's brother and the lucky clover.
76
Hark3n Apr 2, 2026 +29
The one with the dog. F****** awesome episode. Close second for me would be "The Why of Fry"
29

The final episode of Six Feet Under was perfect.

Dr. Who, “Blink” is as perfect as it gets.
443
almostbutnotquiteme Apr 2, 2026 +208
It was "Vincent and the Doctor" for me
208
RedIsAwesome Apr 2, 2026 +59
My bf showed this one to me when I asked him what Dr. Who is about. I went from "this is some low budget corny monster show" to ugly crying at Bill Nighy's speech. Now that I've seen a lot more, this episode is probably the best way to explain that show if you only have one chance.
59
Brosepower Apr 2, 2026 +274
There are a lot, but my personal favorite is "Who Are You" from Andor.
274
RFactor83 Apr 2, 2026 +42
That episode had everything - drama, stunts. Art direction, effects, costume design, and excellent script and direction.
42
Brosepower Apr 2, 2026 +43
Idk why I was as invested as I was with Syril and Daedra's romance but their breakup kinda broke me, and I'm a freaking grown-ass man. Let alone the last few minutes of that episode where the Ghormans are crying for help across radio frequencies as they're being butchered. Just a masterclass in everything. It's truly up there with the best episodes ever put to TV.
43
ProbablySlacking Apr 2, 2026 +28
Who are you is good. But “One Way Out” is better IMO. That whole series is peak television regardless of your view on Star Wars as a whole.
28
who_gon_check_me_boo Apr 2, 2026 +249
Buffy the Vampire Slayer - The Body It’s the best depiction of grief I’ve ever seen.
249
landragoran Apr 2, 2026 +72
Buffy has so many. The Body, Hush, Tabula Rasa/Once More with Feeling...
72
ProbablySlacking Apr 2, 2026 +36
God, Once More With Feeling was a whole like, phase, for me in college.
36
weed_blazepot Apr 2, 2026 +92
Jesus, and right out of nowhere. SPOILER FOR A 30 YEAR OLD TV SHOW BELOW The fact that so many people are killed by monsters and vampires and such and we're all along for the ride, and then Buffy loses her mom to just... Life. Just a normal, sad, nothing you can do about it moment... That heartbreak at "Mom.... Mom? ... ^Mommy?" Holy f*** it crushes you.
92
bourbonisall Apr 2, 2026 +42
this and Anya’s monologue…
42
weed_blazepot Apr 2, 2026 +25
She was such a good character, learning to be human and being so beautifully delighted and angry by it all.
25
cbusjunkie Apr 2, 2026 +33
I’m watching Buffy with my husband who has never seen it right now, and we’re so close to The Body. I’m dreading watching it again but I’m really interested to see someone who has never seen it react.
33
bourbonisall Apr 2, 2026 +14
this is way too far down - even 25 years later this episode is brutally incredible and imo will stand the test of time

Frasier S6 E14 where Niles tries to iron his pants before a date -a masterclass in physical comedy
106
QueenMotherOfSneezes Apr 2, 2026 +32
Niles really made that show, imo. David Hyde Pierce's acting is so wonderful. One of my favourite performances of his is in the Ham Radio episode, where he >!goes on a rant and kills all 6 of his characters!< 🤣

Andor - One Way Out
118
Lazlow_Vrock Apr 2, 2026 +15
The prison sequence in Andor is my very favourite part of the show. Andy Serkis is f****** great as Kino Loy. Was disappointed to hear he wasn't back for season 2, but probably wasn't much they could have done with him.

West Wing “Two Cathedrals” by a mile
208
AhavaZahara Apr 2, 2026 +25
Just watched it again last week. Sheen is absolutely phenomenal in that episode, and so much of his acting is subtle -- an expression, body language, etc. I've probably watched the entire series 5 times since the first Trump election.

109
theCaptain_D Apr 2, 2026 +732
"Long, Long Time" from The Last of Us season 1 (aka the one with Nick Offerman and Murray Bartlett) is pretty damn incredible. Like an entire self contained film full of love and sadness and hope and despair and everything else all in a 76 minute package.
732
thisisboyhood Apr 2, 2026 +38
If my wife dies before me, I'm going to ask for a line from this episode to be on my gravestone - "I'm old, I'm satisfied, and you were my purpose." An absolutely amazing episode of TV. It's so sad that for some people it was unwatchable because of their homophobia. They missed out on some beautiful truths about life and love and loss.
38
notyourvader Apr 2, 2026 +116
I always liked Offerman as an actor, but that episode made me realise just how good he actually is. If he had a larger part in Civil War, he definitely would have won some awards.
116
A_Polite_Noise Apr 2, 2026 +15
Try the series Devs with Offerman, also from Alex Garland (from 2020). He brought several of the Devs cast along for Civil War (2024).

Yep. Pine Barrens gets lots of love but this is the champion. The acting from both of the leads is off the charts.

For me a tie between Free Churro - Bojack Horseman, and ronny/lilly - Barry, for all the different reasons.

I always have to stop at the episode before, that last one is just too much for me to rewatch. It is amazing though!

I’m literally at the last episode. It’s my 3rd rewatch of the series. I can’t finish it. I cry every time and it’s always when they are laughing and having wine in the living room - right before the wave monologue. I just can’t. 🥺 The entire series is the best. I love it.

Oh god yes. Brutal. Also the one when Carter got stabbed then when he fell to the floor he found Lucy under the bed dead. I jumped a mile high.

That’s *not* a real show. It’s just hours of body after body busting out of shit wood and hitting pavement.

Spectrum dropped Corncob TV before I could watch it. Tried finding it on YouTube but all that came up was something called “Bozo Dubbed Over.” It only had one view…

More recently, "Forks" from the Bear. The moment with Ritchie starts belting out Taylor Swift in his car is such a great HOF moment for character development and growth.

Even more amazing if you watch it right after watching the previous episode, which is one of the most tense, chaotic, stressful episodes of TV ever made. Going from that to the quiet, measured, methodical genius of Forks was f****** powerful. It's like the show is telling you "maybe restaurant life doesn't need to be that bad"

It's far less well known, but I'm personally a huge fan of M\*A\*S\*H S4 episode 19 "Hawkeye". Hawkeye gets stranded far from the base after a car wreck and is helped by a Korean family. None of them can understand him, and he can't understand them... And he's concussed, so Alan Alda does what he does best and launches into a 22 minute monologue. It's utterly fantastic.

This would also be my answer. The realization that the past four seasons were leading up to that exact moment. The realization Elliot wasn't just a weirdo. The realization that that show you've been watching for four seasons wasn't even nearly as sci-fi or far fetched as you thought it was. All those realisations packed into one split second. I watched it seven years ago and I'm still speechless.
