I believe  the psychology term is "Lemerince" and its what we laymen call the honeymoon phase it lasts anywhere from 6 to 18 months. It ends because the brain simply cannot continue to produce oxytocin at those levels. I'm trying to find the article I read it in..

One year away from getting my PsyD and we don’t use that word. We say honey moon phase or infatuation. Not saying you’re wrong because that absolutely is the correct term (although spelled limerence) but just sayin.
