Probably Slavery.
Slavery is one of the oldest institutions that unfortunately has also been a major economic driver. The amount of human suffering is unmatched. Even before most civilizations moved into sedentary, agricultural systems, slavery was already common.

I get that you’re saying that predators don’t have any social skills, but I don’t understand the comment made in this particular case. Are you saying the Internet for nerds or that people on Listnook? Don’t have social media because they don’t have friends?
If it’s the social media thing is social media is super addictive and caused a lot of issues. And you’re letting a giant corporation slowly tell you how to think of what you want and how you should look.
If it’s the fact that I like the Internet, then I would say yes I like the fact that when I need an answer to a random question, I can look it up instantly. Today I was talking to my niece about how a big blue cow was. She didn’t believe me so I compared it a T-Rex. I didn’t have to go to the library and then look up blue Wells and encyclopedia and two Rex in encyclopedia and then compare the two. Also a blue whale can weigh between 110 and 180,000 kg. An elephant only weighs around 1000 kg perspective.

I too was alive pre internet and it was amazing and wonderful when it came out then Facebook brought all the normies onboard and offered brain dead communication through pokes and likes and then when the internet went mobile that’s when it all went to shit. Social media is the biggest offender, but there are also dating apps and other brainrot platforms that kill your attention span, skew your perception of reality and clog your brain using bias confirming algorithms.

Nuclear weapons have largely kept widespread global war in check for 81 years. There's really not much they can do that can't be done with a whole lot of regular ordinance, but the idea in the video of it being done all at once and engulfing an entire city in one fireball scared the bejesus out of the world for "Nuclear Deterrence" and mutually assured destruction to keep away World War III (so far).

Do I then expect that person to go on what do you want. Oh you want flour. Go to person who makes flour. Hey can I get flour for iron ingots. Oh you don’t need iron ingots either. Buying stuff would be insanely time consuming and well you might not be able to get everyone what they want so in end no bread for you. If we're talking about "worst single action or policy ever done in history" then the Holocaust was the only time they ever used industrial slaughterhouses on human beings instead of meat livestock. All of it was a pre-executed plan that coordinated every government agency and every institution in society, with many ordinary civilians in multiple countries actively participating in it.
The Japanese did many horrible things during the war, but it wasn't one single action or plan.

By that I mean that in this era where we are ruled by oligarchs that r***, kill, and allegedly even eat babies, we have done functionally nothing.
Obviously some can’t do anything; what am I, a freshly minted adult in a forested neighborhood going to do? But that does not make the situation any better, nor do I feel any less guilt.
The ruling class r*** infants, and indeed the whole world. They continue with slavery, genocide, and weapons development and nothing has been done even though we are fully aware of it.
That is the worst that mankind has ever done. Not nukes, not any one issue. The worst that we have ever done is nothing.

Genocide. And I know you're all going to start moaning on about how slavery is worse, and I agree that slavery is a living hell, but all throughout history there have been different versions of slavery, and it has always been one of the goals of the owner to keep their slaves alive. While genocide is genocide. With genocide it comes down to methods and efficiency of wiping a people out, while some methods may not work as well as others, and people could argue, well you know, they didn't do a very good job of it because some people survived, the goal was still to wipe a particular group of people out. And while I agree I'd rather be dead than be a slave, as a slave there is always a chance of leaving the institution. While with genocide you better haul ass or you get the chop. Slavery is removing someone's right to freedom, genocide is removing someone's right to life.

I'm a liberal, and you all need to quit with this shit. Capitalism is fine. Unbridled and unregulated capitalism is the issue. You can still have that without full blown communism which has it's own atrocities. There is a good middle ground with capitalism with socialism mixed in that works perfectly fine.

It's interesting how what you're saying doesn't really disagree with what you're replying to. You just disagree where to draw the line.
I say this because as a socialist I've had so many interactions with liberals on here who just really don't like the words that are being used, so you deflect against the idea that capitalism is bad, because somehow Soviet communism (which was state capitalism) is the only alternative you can imagine.
1
spookydookieMar 28, 2026

Most of the arguments on the internet are over what words mean. And everyone digs in and says one word is bad and the other is good. Most socialists I've talked to are actually capitalists, they just want regulations on it. Nobody wants the government controlling everything, unless you are a communist. People want to be able to build a business for themselves and make their own way, with rules so assholes can't f*** them over. So I can make bread in a sanitary way without the next guy making bread with cockroaches and selling it for cheaper. Nobody's got time to vet every bread maker, that's what we need the government for.
Every single law that has ever been made is because some a****** tried to f*** someone over. Eventually it always tends to the right and removing regulations, we have to reign it in every once in a while before it gets out of hand.
1
MrBandenMar 28, 2026
+1
>Most of the arguments on the internet are over what words mean.
My experience is that most arguments on the internet is over what people think they know what words mean.
>Most socialists I've talked to are actually capitalists, they just want regulations on it.
Case in point. "Capitalist" is not an ideological term, it refers to the ownership class under the capitalist economic system. Edit: And you are likely not a capitalist.
What you mean is that most socialists you've talked to were [reformists](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Reformism) (like me!) and not revolutionaries. There's a huge difference but the goal is still to dismantle capitalism. It is done by economic reform through a democratic mandate and not some bloody revolution where everything gets torn to shreds.
>Nobody wants the government controlling everything, unless you are a communist.
This is were the confusion about what words mean really set in. Collective ownership is not necessarily state ownership. Before the term was perverted by the Leninists, communism explicitly meant that workers should take ownership and control of the means of production. That is how it is described in the communist manifesto.
That this should be done through the state wasn't even on the table until the Bolsheviks took control of the Russian state and somehow that is what it has come to mean.
>People want to be able to build a business for themselves and make their own way, with rules so assholes can't f*** them over. So I can make bread in a sanitary way without the next guy making bread with cockroaches and selling it for cheaper. Nobody's got time to vet every bread maker, that's what we need the government for.
Yeah, but so often the people that make it difficult to start businesses are capitalists that are pricing smaller businesses out and the businesses that produce bread in unsanitary conditions do so because they are trying to meet the profit demands of capitalists that are trying to maximally extract wealth out of the production and exchange of goods.
If these are some of the issues you want the government to deal with, then congrats you're an anti-capitalist.
It's no surprise that you as a liberal find yourself agreeing with socialists because historically socialism was a continuation of liberalism, not a rejection of it.
