My favourite place to visit was Iran. The government are twats. Everyone else is exceptional. I was a female travelling alone and I made friends everywhere, people took me hiking, invited me to barbecues. People invited me to stay over at their houses. I am still in touch with so many of them. There was one point where I needed to take an internal flight, and I had a row to myself, tons of blankets, kept being offered loads of food. When I looked round, I saw that nobody else was getting any of this. When I offered my grapes and blankets, the other passengers were like "you're a guest in this country, you deserve all the blankets and grapes". Carpet sellers refused to sell to me because they said Persian carpets are cheaper in Europe (I'm a carpet fan and have several Persian and Afghan carpets at home, and he was right, they are cheaper here). Their hospitality was next level. I've been to nearly 100 countries and Iran is the one that stays with me.
The hiking was amazing, too.

Nailed it. I'm not surprised you were treated like that. Iranians are generally amazingly warm, hospitable people. I've never been, but I hope one day when things are more calm politically I can visit.
