What keeps the Moon landing conspiracy alive even today? Wouldn’t rival countries have exposed it by now if it were fake?

You're assuming (wrongly) that what gives oxygen to conspiracy theories is the presence of any rational credibility, rather than profound ignorance and stupidity, the Dunning-Kruger effect and the psychology of it being attractive to think you're in on something that the "sheeple" are not.

So you’re saying they’re mistaken, right?

I think they're saying they're morons

Is it even a mistake if it's not based on any logic to begin with?

Conspiracy theorists are crackpot nutjobs.

You're assuming logic has ever dissuaded a conspiracy theorist.

Haha yeah I guess. That's why I still don't understand why people still keep questioning it.

It's just pure stupidity and nothing else

People are desperate to have knowledge that others don't. All conspiracy theories boil down to "I'm smart and everyone else is stupid"
1
Entire-History6514 Apr 1, 2026 +1
Mmm yeah, I never thought about that. But the Dunning-Kruger effect could be the real reason then.

Everyone thinks they are "in the know" that there is secret knowledge only a select few can have and they are one of those people. In reality, as George Carlin put it "It's a big club, and you ain't in it"

Big club xD

The same that keeps flat earthers around

Not necessarily. I don't believe Apollos 12-17 were faked, but if they were, other countries might be in on it too.

But just think about the amount of convincing to do.

There's only so many countries who would actually have in on it. Angola and Laos wouldn't, but former Soviet republics, Western European countries, etc. might be. But there's no evidence for this. Conspiracy theories are almost universally an argument from ignorance.

Flat Earth is alive and well today, and they'll argue the fact with geologists and astronomers.

It was obviously sarcasm

The Soviets acknowledged the moon landings. If there is a conspiracy it’s that there never was a race to the moon. However in 1989 some American aerospace engineers visited Moscow and saw the Soviets’ would-be lunar landing craft.

You have to admit there are some curiosities though -The film surviving through the Van Allen belt - The fact that their computer on board only had 64 kB of storage - and weird anomalies in the photographs - also check out the press conference from the astronauts afterward they look like something is bothering them

How?

Apollo 11 left over 100 items on the Moon in 1969, including the Lunar Module "Eagle" descent stage, scientific instruments (seismometer, laser reflector), an American flag, cameras, and waste bags. Other nations, including rivals, confirmed this via independent tracking and, later, imaging by India's Chandrayaan-1 and Japan's SELENE.

I mean how would foreign countries expose it? Don’t get me wrong I’m not on either side of this moon landing stuff, but I’m just asking - if it were faked how would the rival country get the information and enough of it to concretely expose things one way or another? Even with spies, what would it take to sway the us public?

Either take a picture of the landing sites with enough resolution, prove that there are actual video anomalies in the video recordings, obtain lunar rock samples from NASA and show that they were not taken o the Moon, or show that there something in the Apollo spacecraft or Saturn V couldn't have worked. If Apollo was faked, doing any of that would be trivial, as faking these kinds of things would have been almost impossible. The fact that no one managed to do it is sufficient proof that Apollo was real.

The Soviets had a lot intel on NASA.

It's because there hasn't been a moon landing ever since the first one

There were like 6!

Fritzkreig Apr 1, 2026 +1
Yeah China and the USSR would have been all over that; or maybe they were but covertly sowed that sentiment into the zeitgeist!
