like the title says, im looking for movie recommendations to make me cry, im trying to get over a breakup and move on. i just want something thats either gonna absolutely crush me or just help me grieve my relationship and cry it all out and move on.
i really need to cry i think, i feel like im going insane and i just want to be okay again. it doesnt help me and my ex stayed friends but i genuinely cannot cut them out of my life, i will honestly be so soooo depressed if i did. anyways i need to cry so any movies that can do them send it my way
ive already seen grave of the fireflies, cant do that again, and ive already seen eternal sunshine and it didnt really do it for me
Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind (woops:')

I’m not kidding, the Marcell the Shell with shoes on movie. Jenny Slate and Dean Fleischer were going through their divorce while working in it.

I was 19 when Swingers came out. That was the most relatable movie I'd ever seen. The rules on calling, the calling and getting the machine, the going out from bar to party to party to bar, the 3am diner meals. We were beautiful babies. We were money and we didn't even know it.

If you want to cry, watch Brokeback Mountain. But also be prepared to feel a kind of pain you haven’t experienced before, a new sort of gut-wrenching longing that you’ll never part with. And every time you hear the acoustic guitar strum from then on, you’re reminded instantly of that pain. Incredible film.

For a cathartic breakup cry, 'Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind' (2004) is the gold standard for processing love and loss. '500 Days of Summer' (2009) is great for perspective, and 'Manchester by the Sea' (2016) if you just want to feel the weight of it all. Hang in there!

The Way We Were
Normal People (Series)
Simple Passion (Based on an Annie Ernaux book-she won recently the Nobel Prize for Literature)
(These are all break up parting ways movies/series, and the two books-especially Normal People, Simple Passion, will also be great reads.)
The Piano Teacher made me cry. It’s a very deep psychological intense story, but the acting is superb.
This one has a happy conclusion, but I liked this old 80s movie called Until September which is set in Paris. The woman is a strong character but she goes through the ups a downs of an affair with a beautiful French man.
If you need some cheering up I recommend It Happened One Night (classic with Clark Gable).

I am doing exactly what you said. And I was polite about it which seems hard for you. There are a million of these threads, all they have to do is search. As someone who has lived it, it's easy to bury yourself in fiction and it's all too common. Just offering a perspective that may prove useful over time to someone in that situation. Sorry that offends your sensibilities. Actually, that last sentence isn't true.
