What scenes in cinema have been as impactful as the Aragorn "you bow to no one" scene in your opinion?

Posted by thevahid010

For me the Avengers End Game scene when Captain America is standing in front of Thanos' army, but still isn't standing down then you hear "on your left", the theme plays and you hear him finally say "avengers assemble". Gives me goosebumps every time. Curious what others feel was as impactful to them as the Aragorn scene.

Oh captain, my captain. Not grand spectacle, but grand emotion.

For me, it is the ride of the Rohirrim in Return of the King. Different scene, same kind of pure goosebumps moment.

Going back to ROTK, while Aragorn’s is good, the one that gets me and broke a whole theater was Sam ‘I can’t carry it for you, but I can carry you.’

You're going to have to define what you're asking for here. Are you just asking for one liners at the end of massive franchises? It's not like that scene had any cultural footprint of its own.

Yea and even from a LOTR standpoint, the Samwise speech to Frodo in the Two Towers to help him keep carrying on feels way more impactful than Aragorn’s line

Lol that threw me off too.

I thought he was corny for citing LOTR as "one of the most impactful scenes in cinema" but then he one upped himself with an immediate Avengers comparison lmao. Redditors are freaking epic.

LOTR is pretty important to a lot of people and say what you will about marvel but it was at the peak cultural zeitgeist at the time. No need to be a typical a****** redditor about someone liking either scene for their perceived emotional impact

Apprezzare la scena va bene, però considerare una sequenza di Endgame "impattante nel cinema" lo trovo al limite dell'offensivo

OP never actually said the scenes had an impact on cinema itself, he said they were impactful. As in, they left an impact on him. This isn't remotely a controversial opinion. And even then, getting offended because someone else has a different opinion on the impact of two famous scenes in two of the biggest blockbusters of all time really just means you're being an elitist a******.

He was Edmond Dantes... and he was my father. And my mother... my brother... my friend. He was you, and me. He was all of us. [*multiple dead characters unmasking in the crowd*]

The last shot in Hitchcock's Vertigo, which is wordless. The end of Bridge over the River Kwai, which is one word, repeated. Kikuchiyo revealed to be a farmer's son in Seven Samurai. The fistfight in the diner while "Yellow Rose of Texas" plays in Giant. Wilma saying to Homer that she'll never leave him in The Best Years of Our Lives. But just so you don't think I only like old movies, Cap saying for the first time, "I don't like bullies. I don't care where they're from." means a great deal to me.

There are few scenes that for me land with the power of that climactic moment in Jaws when Brody shoots the oxygen tank in the shark's mouth. After having multiple townspeople killed, being publicly slapped by the mother of a boy eaten by the shark, having his son experience a terrifying near miss with the shark, believing Hooper to have been killed while submerged in the cage, watching Quint get eaten right in front of him and finding himself out at sea, miles from shore on a rapidly sinking boat as the shark closes in for the kill, this exhausted, terrified Sheriff - who doesn't even like the water and is only out there to protect the town - looks right into the eyes of this huge apex predator hurtling toward him and, with a final, angry growl mutters "Smile, you son of a b****!"  before getting off a perfect shot, blowing up the tank and exploding the shark. Then he immediately lets loose a triumphant, joyful laugh as the pieces of the shark splatter everywhere. THAT scene gave me all the feelings. Still does. That's the definition of being a total badass when it matters most.

My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius, Commander of the Armies of the North, General of the Felix Legions, loyal servant to the true emperor, Marcus Aurelius. Father to a murdered son, husband to a murdered wife. And I will have my vengeance, in this life or the next. This scene does it.

I’m not really into that fantasy stuff, so I would say there are thousands of more impactful moments. A few that stand out are… In *Rear Window* when Jeff peers into the dark room of Lars Thorwald and sees the cherry of the cigarette glowing in the dark. My dad took me to a rerelease screening of that when I was a little kid and that moment scene made my head swim. In *Hour of the Wolf* when the boy’s body floats up and down in the tide pool and the painter watches. It’s one of many master-images in Bergman’s work that have shocking power. In *Fellini’s Roma* there is a very famous sequence of excavators unsealing an ancient catacomb and the fresh air rushes in and erases the beautiful frescoes on the walls. It literally took my breath away. Fellini was a master surprising with moments of magic. There are so many other great ones like the spinning carriage wheel in *Empire of Passion* or John Merrill finally laying down to sleep like an average person in *The Elephant Man.*

Braveheart! The build-up to the Battle of Stirling, when William Wallace/Mel Gibson, gets the Scottish Peasant Army fired up before the battle! When the English calvery is charging towards the Scottish front line is off the charts!

Good thing about that film is that it is equally as fictional as OP's Lord Of The Rings example!

Bitter_Resolve_6082 Mar 25, 2026 +2
Did I miss where OP says the movie needs to be nonfiction? I personally like the movie myself regardless of parts that may be fictional. You come off as a pompous ass? Have a nice day.

- The Shining *Ezechiele 25:17 by Jules* - Pulp Fiction
