What unconventional advice do you have for depression?

Don’t expect “recovery”. You can’t cure depression. What you should do is find a way to come to terms with it.

Embracing the depression. Feel it, cry, sleep, play games, eat junk food. Eating shitty food is better than not eating at all, and feeling it is better than not feeling anything.

Sit in it. If someone around you is depressed, express understanding and availability to listen/help, but frankly?... Let them sit in it. It's okay to be depressed.

Lower the bar for yourself like way lower and count even tiny things like getting out of bed or taking a shower as wins.

recognise it and don't make any decisions while you're going through it. try and keep in mind there's an end point

pretend its gone for a week. prepare a plan/s for the whole week, including what to think to switch off thoughts like “i cant get out of bed” or “whats the point?”. after a week, see how things are. best case = it alleviates the pain worse case = it didnt work, probably the plans were wrong, try others? dont try to “cure” it, but plan a life around the depression

Whenever I have a self-hating or sabotaging thought, I pretend it's a scam E-mail from the "prince of Nigeria".

Maybe thats common but I cured my depression of 2 years within one day. I just said to myself that all these thoughts are not real and that they only want to destroy me. Just keep living and doing what ur doing without hurting urself and things will change to the better. Sounds too easy but I was really heavily depressed and thought about ending it plenty of times but happy that was too afraid to actually do it but it was close. But in my case I wasn’t depressed because someone of my loved ones dies. I will face that challenge soon enough
