What was the most popular bedtime story or fairytale in your area/country?

Posted by jo_wellbeing

I was talking to an international friend about the “boogeyman” version of my country and it really got us talking about all the different fairytales our parents or relatives used to tell us. I’d love to hear from people across the world on what were the stories they were told growing up! It’ll be really cool to see if there’s any similarities!

Ireland here and if we are talking Irish specifically. Finn MC cool or children of leir. People like chuhullin and  Banshee . Jack o lantern (headless horseman) Non Irish it's gotta be grimms tales eg Rumpelstiltskin .

It's a dull tale V banshee or jack o lantern.   He was a warrior .... And there's lots of myths but the one most told is his name origin which is hound of hullin.  He was invited to hullins house. But hullin forgot to bring his dog in.  So  it attacked chuhullin. He killed it and hullin was well sad but our hero says look mate I'm really sorry . I'll guard your house for free for a year while you. Train a new guard dog. Haha and that's it really  He does go on to have warrior adventures. Clan skirmishes etc but they are later legends not told to kids. Eg he wants to marry someone . Is told no. Murders 23 men then the chief is like I don't want to let him if I do I look weak on the other hand if I don't he will kill me so the compromise is you can marry her but on your wedding night I'm sleeping with you both too lol
