With the REALLY long cable so you didn’t have to sit directly in front of the TV.

The Nintendo 64.
Nothing will ever beat the pure chaos of four-player GoldenEye or Mario Kart in a basement with friends

If we're talking more generally, an Apple PC Jr.

My first gaming console would probably be a Nintendo Game Boy, simple, portable, and somehow endlessly addictive for hours on end.

Original Nintendo. Came with Mario, Duck Hunt, and Track. The track was a giant pad you would run and jump on. We have yet to truly match this technology.

Good times :)
I remember my favorites were Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, Metroid, Duck Hunt and Super Mario Bros 3. Solid preschool and kindergarten memories.

C**** Dexxer, it had 2 gamepads, but was missing the gun,
everything was made from very poor quality plastic.
It had p****** versions of Mario and Galaxian,
the games were perfect 1 to 1copies.
im not sure if it was/is avaible in the "west" but mine was bought at a Polish bazaar some ¿15? years ago and it was already ancient then

We had an Atari 800. Mom wouldn't allow anything that didn't have at least some sort of educational value. My IT career started with programming in BASIC.

When I was a little kid my parents wouldn’t let me have video games, but my best friends had NES, Genesis, and Super Nintendo, so I got to play those when I was at their houses. I eventually managed to get my parents to cave, and my first system was Game Gear. Then my first home console was PlayStation.

GameBoy, was mostly for my older bros.
The first I bought myself was a GBA, and I still have it! I remember I couldn't afford a game for it for a few weeks, so I sat admiring it until I got my first game.

TI-84. Course, you had to program in T-Basic. Then save your work to an audio cassette so you could pick up where you left off later. The driving game was 20,000 lines of code.
When I was super young, we had the TRS-80 in the house. We had games on cartridge and cassette - my favorite was Bustout. Then when I was about 7, I played the NES for the first time... and I knew nothing was ever going to be the same again.

Atari 2600! The only other console I've personally owned is a 7800 that I bought and restored last year, but I've played on my kid's Wii and Wii U more than he has over the years.
