When I realized everyone else is just as focused on their own problems as I am on mine. Nobody’s watching my life like I thought they’re busy surviving theirs.

One of those moments where you realize you’re not as important as you thought you were;)

Honestly, the first time I got completely overlooked for a promotion I was 1000% sure was mine. Like, didn't even get a conversation about it. Just... nothing. Humbling af.

I had an internship with someone high up in government. We interacted multiple times on a daily basis for nine months straight.
Two months after it ended, I had to type up a report and give it to him and get feedback. When he was done reading it, he called me into his office to talk about it. He said he mostly liked it but there were some things I could change. Then he goes “Overall it was pretty good. Who taught you how to conduct research so well?” I thought he was joking and I said “Well I had a pretty good supervisor when I was an intern.”
He goes “Oh, who was that?” Still thinking he’s playing I said “You know who haha” and he gave me this look like I was speaking a foreign language backwards. The man literally did not remember me from eight weeks ago but we had spent nine months together.
I told him I interned for him and he’s like “Oh! Hey! I’m glad you turned out to be fantastic.” I am 6’5 and Black/Japanese with a French name nobody can pronounce. I am not easy to forget or so I thought 😵💫
